DH Summer qualifiers announced

DreamHack has revealed all the details about the qualifying process for DreamHack ZOWIE Open Summer.

After stops in Germany, the United States and France, DreamHack returns to its roots in Jönköping for its annual Summer event, in Jönköping, from June 18-21.

With two spots in the $100,000 tournament up for grabs, the qualifying process will consist of an open stage and a closed stage. The top eight teams of the two open cups will secure spots in the closed qualifiers, joining eight invited sides.


DreamHack set to return to Jönköping 

The winners of both closed qualifiers will secure entry into DreamHack Summer, but it is worth noting that these teams will not receive travel or accommodation support.

  • Open Qualifier #1 - May 28 - Sign up
  • Closed Qualifier #1 - May 29
  • Open Qualifier #2 - June 4 - Sign up
  • Closed Qualifier #2 - June 5

DH not paying for travel costs for qualifying teams is worrying. Seems like top teams bring in most money so they pay for them even though they have enough money because THE EVENT needs them. Qualifying teams that may actually need the money are being denied this possibly because they are not as lucrative for DH. Seems like a worrying sign to me.

These are the steps for esports downfall. The few top teams are hording all the price money and sponsor money. Teams outside of the top10 can't function on a long term like this. There is very little incentive for these teams to travel to events, when they realistically are doing it for a loss.
