e-STRO win in Seoul

Seoul hosted late last night the playoffs at the Continental Finals Korea – e-STRO swept everything in their way to win.

Many might not even have noticed the Korea top Counter-Strike teams being in action late last night. Extreme Masters III had found its way to Seoul, Korea, to host the Continental Finals Korea. Cash and spots for the Continental Finals Asia were up for grabs, with e-STRO being the main favorite. We should be witnessing an interesting comeback as Lunatic-hai had found their way to Seoul. Also Seoul’s CGS team SEOULJINHWA had made it to the playoffs, promising for entertaining matches.

Nobody could however touch e-STRO, Lunatic-hai and SEOULJINHWA did however have a close one to face e-STRO in the grand final. The match ended 26:20 to Lunatic-hai, but after the match, players from SEOULJINHWA complained about Lunatic-hai using 16bit. Using 16bit is of course strictly forbidden in Extreme Masters. Lunatic-hai received one major penalty point, resulting in deduction 10% of their prize winnings.

The grand final should be played on nuke, third time for e-STRO in the playoffs. Lunatic-hai never looked as a threat to e-STRO, but managed to win some clutch rounds, leaving a good impression. The Korea wonder-team e-STRO won the grand final with 16:9 securing 5.000$ and a spot at the Continental Finals Asia.

Lunatic-hai received 3.000$ but with 10% off, it came down to 2.700$ and a slot at the Continental Finals Asia, coming early 2009. SEOULJINHWA also secured a spot to the Continental Finals Asia by placing third, plus 2.000$.

Final Standings

1. Korea e-STRO - 5.000$
2. Korea Lunatic-hai - 2.700$ (10% deduction)
3. Korea SEOULJINHWA - 2.000$
4. Korea esq.wind

The three teams will be playing at Continental Finals Asia, being played early 2009, along with the best Chinese teams.

what do you mean together with other settings. =D You can just see more clearly through smoke when you play with 16bits, less details, less graphics

That together with other settings it is even easier to see through smoke using 16 bits, that is what I mean ;)

Well, that's bad decision by ESL imo. They almost cheated and got 10% off? WTF? They should have been given forfeit or something. They were not punished this way. It's silly.

After the semifinal between Lunatichai and SEOULJINHWA some players of Jinwha complained that one of Lunatics players used the forbidden 16bit mode in Counter-Strike. After many talks between players, managers and admins they decided to give Lunatic Hai one Major Penalty and therefore a deduction of 10% of the prize money but no rematch, since the game ended 16:4 for Lunatic and this violation wasn't decisive. Additionally Lunatic has been warned and will be disqualified if they use 16bit one more time. Due to the long discussions the tournament is delayed. Is what ESL wrote after the decision was made.

Yeah i think that's a good penalty... i mean they can get a 3 round penalty.... but.. it wont be like a penalty for them because they had a advantage of 12 rounds. So they deduct 10% of the prize, so EM will save money lol :P

Well, it's not a good decision at all. "Was not that decisive"? WTF? It's not like it happened in one or 2 rounds. They used it in ALL rounds. Who can claim that it would have been 16-4 if they didn't used 16bit? We all know how much advantage you get when using 16b. They should have been given forfeit loss imo.

It's not, but it's damn not fair. Considering it was LAN event, it's a big mistake by orga. Admins should have seen it, warned etc.
