Adelaide Crows acquire Legacy

The Adelaide Crows Football Club have come to an agreement and purchased one of Australia's biggest esports organisations, Legacy Esports.

According to a report earlier this month, Australia's largest sports league - Australian Football League (AFL) - has expressed their interest in entering into the esports industry including hosting an esports tournament at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne. This was inspired by other well-known overseas traditional sports teams and individuals investing into the growing esports industry during the past two years.

In addition to increasing the exposure of their own brand and a potential boost of sponsorship revenues, they want the AFL clubs to sponsor or form their own esports divisions. Therefore, the Adelaide Crows have made the first move and acquired Legacy Esports, featuring some of Australia's best teams in League of Legends, CS:GO, Rocket League and SMITE.

Legacy to keep its name for the time being

In another report by The Age, it was "understood" that the deal reached a sum of six-digits and that Legacy will be keeping its "identity and branding" at the moment. It has not been decided whether or not Legacy will pick up the Adelaide Crow's name in the future.

With this investment and support, Legacy's CS:GO team will be attending the ESL AU&NZ Championship S3 Finals this weekend (with Chris "⁠CHRiSOAOW⁠" Forman standing in for Michael "⁠Lightstep⁠" Hall due to roster restrictions) and next season of CGPL and ESEA Premier to follow afterwards.

Legacy's roster will be:

Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and half o NSW consider AFL to be "football". QLD and half of NSW consider Rugby League (not Union) to be "football". Everyone considers Union to be a form of "football". Real football only really exists in a small community. Hope that clears stuff up.

got 3 types of football, rugby union (the one you're thinking about), rugby league (NRL) and AFL. we don't have 1 national sport we have multiple, especially depending on where you live in the country. if you were to narrow it down AFL/rugby league (NRL) and of course cricket are our national sports. NZ is very similar, they play what we play (except for AFL) because they have no other country to play haha fun fact: AFL was invented due to the cricket off season, they needed something to play and keep fit during the winter and this is why some of the sydney cricket ground grandstands were.. or still are reversible. Cricket on 1 side 1 half of the year, AFL on the other the other half.

I see. That's very interesting. All I knew about AUS+NZ is that they're not really that good at (European) football, but I always see them perform well at the Rugby World Cup. But the situation sounds way more confusing than that lmao.

we're good at like every sport except for real football :( but it wasn't seen as a manly sport before and now blokes dont care. so i assume our team will hopefully pick up in their game over the next 5-10 years with the next generation coming through.

It is the worst version of football in the world. I might not have said so 20 years ago, but now there is essentially no kicking aside from shots on goal, the skill has evaporated from the game in favour of athleticism. On top of that you have the politicisation of the game: indigenous round, woman's round, poofters round, multicultural round. It's garbage. I just hope that the AFL corporation itself stays clear of e-sports tournament organising in Australia, GAYFL is completely cucked.
