NiP win DreamHack Open Valencia

Ninjas in Pyjamas have won DreamHack Open Valencia following a 2-0 victory over Red Reserve (16-10 on Mirage and 16-2 on Cache).

The all-Swedish clash for first place in Valencia began with Red Reserve getting out to a 5-0 lead as Counter-Terrorists on their map pick, Mirage. Ninjas in Pyjamas nearly pulled off a semi-buy in the sixth round, but Mikail "⁠Maikelele⁠" Bill managed to win it with a last-second defuse.

It was only then that Ninjas in Pyjamas secured their first round. After following it up with two more rounds, Richard "⁠Xizt⁠" Landström's men allowed their opponents to string rounds together once again, but the Ninjas picked themselves up in the final stages of the half and reduced the gap to 6-9.

Now playing as CT, Patrik "⁠f0rest⁠" Lindberg and co. quickly got to the lead for the first time in the game. Ninjas in Pyjamas lost a single round before continuously stopping their opponents' T-side strats, finishing off the first map with a 16-10 scoreline.

NiP have been crowned DreamHack Valencia champions

The second map was Cache, Ninjas in Pyjamas's map pick, and it kicked off with Red Reserve finding two kills and planting the bomb in A. Still, Fredrik "⁠REZ⁠" Sterner helped his team to secure the round with a quad-kill.

Even in gun rounds, REZ and co. continued to control the pace of the game, and they closed out the half with a dominant 13-2 lead. After picking up the pistol round, Xizt's team easily closed out the map, 16-2, and the series, 2-0, to secure the first place and a $50,000 payout.

CLG, Heroic, EnVy = tier 2 Misfits = tier 2.5 NRG, KPI = tier 3 result: tier 2.5 tournament congratulations, you learned something today btw C9 were dogshit at that time, as were OpTic (who were playing with a sub) and Liquid (who had added Twistzz just a few days prior). really Gambit were the only decent team and they're still trash compared to SK. he seemed to be playing a bit skittish and nervy, perhaps just not used to playing LAN against teams of this level. he often found himself in advantageous positions but just lost aim duels anyway. he just needs some more experience and confidence imo freddieb to RR would be sick though, but pyth is trash now

I really enjoyed this victory. And I agree it's a way to lift up the guys morale. But they still need a lotta work to compete on T1 events yet. I sincerely hope that now with Rez and Draken, their passion to the game can come back. It's always nice to see forest and gtr playing with consistency

it's so unreal that red reserve made it to this final all because of koosta's failed defuse. Like they were about to place 5-6th until that bomb exploded. Then they claw their way through to the final. Crazy turn of events
