Cloud9 win iBUYPOWER Masters 2017

Cloud9 defeat Renegades in two maps (16-6 Mirage, 19-16 Train) to become the iBUYPOWER Masters 2017 champions.

The early game on Renegades' map pick, Mirage, was a back-and-forth affair, but Cloud9 was the team that slowly but surely started stabilized as rounds passed. Players such as Timothy "autimatic" Ta and William "RUSH" Wierzba seemed on point, picking up frags left and right, allowing their team to go 6-2 up.

Renegades struck back with a well-coordinated pistol-armor buy that saw them execute out on A, but they couldn't find any back-to-back success until the end of the half when they won two consecutive rounds on B to finish the Terrorist side with 5 rounds.

After the pistol round was won by Jake "Stewie2K" Yip getting a double-knife kill, Cloud9 dropped the second round to Justin "jks" Savage's CZ-75 play in the jungle area. However, the North Americans instantly bounced back and closed out the map convincingly from there, with the final score being 16-6.

Cloud9 closed out the grand final in two maps despite a tough match on Train

Cloud9 took the first three rounds on Train, starting with the Terrorist pistol, but Renegades were the ones in control of the first half. The Australian duo Aaron "AZR" Ward - Karlo "USTILO" Pivac were successful in holding out the outer site, with the former locking down popdog completely, and their team got to 8-4 lead shortly. However, Renegades slipped against a couple of Cloud9 force-buys late on in the half, allowing the North Americans to get to six rounds before the switch.

Despite looking unconvincing in the first half, Cloud9 was able to kick into a higher gear after winning the CT pistol and take back the lead on the defensive side. Noah "Nifty" Francis rolled out the AWP in round 24 and got the entry with it, but Stewie2K and Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham locked down the B site to increase their lead to 14-10.

Renegades kept it alive as USTILO picked up a double entry to win his team a round, and his team then went on a five-round streak, surviving some scary situations and clutches. As they reached map point, Cloud9 was able to stop their ivy push to go into overtime. In the added rounds, Stewie2K continued with his brilliant play, and with Tarik "tarik" Celik's help, closed out the game 19-16 to earn Cloud9 the title at iBUYPOWER Masters 2017.

Cloud is not distinctly better than liquid nor is liquid distinctly better then C9. I think that there is little to no difference in these teams. It comes down to who can perform on the day.

they aren't onliners now, now they are better on lan, the consistency of nothing and shroud online is something they don't have anymore, now they have 5 really good lan players, who sometimes have huge drop offs online. Where a game might be close against luminosity, optic, or nrg, they shit on those people at the lan, see what I mean?

IMO they were never onliners, they just had performance inconsistency issues across the board - especially from Shroud and N0thing offline. They did go on a insane streak last EPL season, but imo that is mainly because the competition in that pro league season was a bit off in NA. So many teams that had to adjust to new coaches and new players (many shifts happened at that point). My point was that Stewie2k, Autimatic and Tarik all pug like hell, and should have less dropoffs online than Rush and Ska who seemlingly as far as I know play rank S pugs very very rarely.

you just said what I did but with favortism. I said they were onliners because shroud and nothing are better online, you said they are worse on lan, same thing. Pugging is not the same as being good as a team on lan and online. They are just good at pugs because they play a lot of them, amanek was leading in rank S but as a player online and lan he is worse than the c9 bois. pugging has nothing to do with players being online or not.

No, it was more of a regional championship. There was good competition in the form of Liquid and RNG (they played really well) but not even close to a major. Still a really good win for C9 and should be a good confidence booster for the upcoming IEM Oakland

Renegades look promising, I hope they keep improving, there is hope they make it to the major. I'm gonna cheer for them, really likeable team. Also NAF is insane, he is lowkey a top5 NA player that people somehow always overlook. Nifty can be solid af too, just needs to be a bit more consistent, but for an IGL AWPer, he is doing pretty damn good.
