Virtus.pro launch second CS:GO team

Called VP.Prodigy, the academy squad will coexist with the main lineup as the organisation looks to develop new talent.

Virtus.pro, whose main team, featuring Dzhami "⁠Jame⁠" Ali and Aleksei "⁠Qikert⁠" Golubev, is currently ranked 29th in the world, has announced a secondary squad called VP.Prodigy, built around young and unproven CIS talent.

With this move, Virtus.pro follow in the footsteps of rival regional organizations NAVI and Gambit, which formed academy squads NAVI Junior and Gambit Youngsters in 2019.

Former Espada player h1glaiN is the most experienced member of VP.Prodigy

Virtus.pro CEO Sergey Glamazda explained that the success of their secondary DOTA2 team inspired them to expand the same way in CS:GO, adding that "there are a lot of different tournaments right now for our second roster to participate in, without interfering with our first roster. Two squads can successfully coexist in the ecosystem".

The search for a leader of the team, a coach, started this summer, with Vladislav "⁠Flash_1⁠" Bykov entrusted with the project. "Our main goal was to find not only skilled players, but also interesting personalities who could avoid conflicts and work together as a team," Mikhail Artemyev, CS:GO branch manager said. "As far as I can tell, we've managed to build a perfect squad in terms of team morale and potential".

The team features 18-20 year old players from the CIS region with limited experience, barring Vadim "⁠h1glaiN⁠" Tanasiuk who spent half a year in Espada and has 130 HLTV maps played on record.

This is clever, every org should do it. It costs them almost nothing and if they find some real talent, it will pay out in the future.

It won't work in NA because the reason Academy teams died in the first place is because of conflict of interest. EU and CIS orgs can sign Academy teams because there is a big enough scene outside of ESEA and Faceit to earn money in. NA has nothing. It's ESEA or Mythic league, and only playing Mythic league is not going to work.
