SQL win WCG Australia

The Australian qualifier for World Cyber Games 2009 concluded this weekending, as SQL overcame v300 2-1 in the Grand Final.

The best of the best down under should this weekend fight for the one qualification spot for the 2009 WCG Grand Finals in Chengdu. Last year’s Australian representative, Team Immunity, was eliminated in the semi-final, by the team of SQL. With a 2-0 score (16-4 on inferno, 16-9 on dust2), SQL secured their spot in the Grand Final. The other team to reach the Grand Final was v300, defeating GUTS in the other semi-final.

SQL started out with a 16-10 win on first map train. Second map nuke saw v300 regaining some strength, taking home a 16-12 win. The deciding map turned out to be dust2, where SQL managed to pull off the victory with a 16-13, to win 2-1 overall and qualify for World Cyber Games 2009 Grand Finals in Chengdu, China.

Well the KFC'd one of their teammates (iceman) in order to rehire a former renowned hacker "steel". This was the decision that ultimately led to their poor performance, iceman went on to join v300.

your pretty wrong, at the melbourne qualifiers iM won beating v300. After the comp v300 (icemans good friends) asked him to join since they needed a 5th. He never got kicked just left.

Just some info for those who don't know about SQL and the Australian scene; At the Australian kode5 in February this year, four of the current SQL made the finals to play off against immunity. SQL won the first map of the final at kode5 and let it slip from there. At the Australian WCG qualifier in 2008, the core of SQL, who played under the name 'encore' made the grand final and played off against immunity. I'm not sure of the exact results but immunity won the trip to Germany. Prior to this, the core of the SQL team won three of the four Australian national events in 2007. The core of this team, apoc soren and pupajoN have played together since mid 2007.'Diggity' who joined this team in mid 2008, represented Australia at WCG 05 and 06 as well as being a cornerstone member of many of Australia's top teams such as f-zer0. Emir has been playing with the core of SQL since kode5 at the start of this year.

In 2008, SQL (aka Encore at that time) narrowly lost against Immunity in the double elimination grand finals. First map they won 16-12, but lost the 2nd map 16-6. (apoc, Soren, davio, pupajoN, rizE) In 2009, they once again faced off against Immunity in KODE5 australian grand finals, winning 16-8 on inferno, losing 16-14 (after winning 8-7 ct side) on dust2 and then eventually losing 16-6 on nuke. (apoc, rizE, pupajoN, Rumil, rBKE) This time however, they met in the semi finals, winning 16-4 on inferno and 16-9 on dust2! (apoc, Soren, pupajoN, rBKE, Rumil)

SQL won wcg australia in 2007 against immunity. At the finals they drew the 2 eventual finalists, emulate and NoA. Also in their group was k23. SQL lost to eml/noa but managed to beat k23 and all the rest in the group. Since then have lost to immunity at wcg/kode5 both 2 maps to 1. Welcome back to the winners circle guys and gl in china!
