Groups set for BLAST Premier Spring

BLAST introduce a new format for Spring Groups as tier-one CS returns.

The seeding for BLAST Premier Spring Groups is now done, and the organiser has announced the three groups of four teams that will do battle in the opening tournament of the season.

Played on LAN in Copenhagen, the Spring Groups first saw the teams seed each other with those seedings being used to draw the groups for the initial stage of the event. These groups will compete in a double-elimination bracket, with the winners qualifying straight to the Spring Final.

The BLAST event will be the first tier-one competition of 2023

The remaining teams will participate in three single-elimination gauntlet brackets, with the second-place teams from the group seeded straight into the final of the gauntlet. The winners of the gauntlets will also qualify for the Spring Final, with the losing teams heading to the Spring Showdown.

Group A hosts the current No. 1 team in the world, HEROIC, and serves up the tantalising prospect of an early-season Danish derby as Astralis also find themselves in the same group. This group will act as the sternest test yet for Nicolai "device" Reedtz since his return to active play, as well as a chance for Christian "Buzz" Andersen to make his debut.

Natus Vincere and Ninjas in Pyjamas take up berths in group C and will both be making their first steps with new-look rosters, as Andrii "npl" Kukharskyi begins his first year as a full member of the CIS giants and Ninjas in Pyjamas debut their replacement for Patrick "es3tag" Hansen. Should rumours come to pass, Daniil "headtr1ck" Valitov would end up facing Natus Vincere immediately after leaving the organisation.

The groups for BLAST Premier Spring Groups are:

Group A

Group B

Group C

The schedule is as follows:

yes and they should be disqualified from being partners because they bring the level of the event down, but I guess they have a lot of money to pay blast so its unlucky

While I agree they should keep being a partner, I will say it's kinda rough to say they're good for an upset since the last time they won a Bo3 against a top-20 team was in June of 2021

seems like you can restart your upset timer then :D edit:no offense tho, i agree that their continuous performance is way worse than any of the other participants

I love BLAST production but seriously, half of the current top 20 teams can’t play their events because they aren’t partners. Enough is enough, they need to change their format and open more spots through qualifiers

sadly they keep a shit partner spot system, that only brings down the level of the event. Same thing happens with EPL. They just don't care about competitiveness, as always they only think about money

at least epl has more spots for others to qualify there

You cant compare, epl have some spots for esl world ranking, and have qualifiers to the main event, blast have two spots for the main event, and half of teams who play for this spot are partners

Why are people only now seeing the closed circuit as a a bad thing? It has been prevalent for many many years. But for all those years it was "fine".

No it wasn't. Also answering on your question: the level of teams is constantly changing but invites are the same, that's the reason why: 1) we see the same matches with the same teams every time 2) weak teams get points in rankings by participating at those partner-tournaments, which considered as tier-1 although at least half of those teams wouldn't finished qualies for such tournaments basically Two of those factors combined bring pluses only for organizers and partner teams but not for the community
