ESWC guarantees prize money

Game-Solution, the organizers behind ESWC, have announced a bank guarantee to secure that all payments under the ESWC tournament are given to the respectable winners.

Back in April, 2009, the owners of the ESWC brand, Games-Services, started selling off assets trying to save themselves from bankruptcy. Shortly after it was announced that they would have to cease all activity and close down. Four months later the ESWC brand was bought by VALOSC, who had hired most of the former Games-Services staff.

Late September, last year, a staggering prize pool of $200,000 was announced for the ESWC tournament in Disneyland, France. The former owners of ESWC still owed teams money, but as Games-Solution did not have any connections with the old owners they were not entitled to pay off any debt. How much the ESWC owed alone is uncertain, but together with the CPL and Clanbase/GGL they owe $274,000. ESWC is still not entitled to pay any of the debt.

ESWC will be back in Paris this summer

To secure any misdoubts about future unpaid money, Game-Solutions have now brought in a bank guarantee for $213,500 which will be paid to the respectable winners at the Disneyland event. They have also offered people to contact their lawyer firm, Fidal group, if they wish to receive an official certification of the bank guarantee.

This is not the first time a bank guarantee has been issued by event organizers, as shgOpen did the same back in 2007.

Game-Solution seems to be progressing in the right direction, and hopefully will ESWC be put back on the map in its former shape.

That's a good point. Amount of unpayed money considering many international Lans is just embarrassing. It just proves houw unprofessional, professional gaming is.

I don't think you understood the news. They just secured the prize money for the event this year, so the teams will be paid almost immediately after, but they don't have to pay for previous prize moneys. In short, neo and co. probably won't get their money... ever.

As far as I understood the news, it is a new director that has taken over ESWC and he seems to be running it the right way, so why would G7 boycot it? Please tell me if I misunderstood something because it doesn´t make sense to me.

Do you understand what a bankruptcy is? The current owners BOUGHT the brand, and them doing so actually helped pay off some of the creditors that ESWC had..

+1. all the "guarantee" means is that the company put that amount into a bank account. it doesn't necessarily guarantee anything to the players or how it will be paid out, only that the money is there for ESWC to use as it sees fit.
