Long-time coach dastan will no longer lead Virtus.pro

Just hours after Virtus.pro was eliminated from the IEM Dallas group stage by BIG in the lower-bracket semi-final, the Armenian organization has announced that coach Dastan "⁠dastan⁠" Akbayev has been relieved of his duties.

The 30-year-old Kazakstani skipper will be replaced at the team's next event, the BLAST Premier Spring Final, by analyst Pavel "⁠PASHANOJ⁠" Legostaev.

dastan managed Virtus.pro since 2019, when the organization acquired the AVANGAR roster that won BLAST Pro Series Moscow, and he stood behind the team at all of their victories since then: Flashpoint 2, cs_summit 7, IEM Rio Major 2022 (under Outsiders), and ESL Challenger Atlanta 2023.

The shake-up in Virtus.pro's ranks comes after a rough first half of 2024 and the recent inclusion of star player Denis "⁠electroNic⁠" Sharipov in the team's starting five.

The Russian squad has not made it past the quarter-finals at any event this year and crashed out of IEM Katowice in the play-in and in the Copenhagen Major's group stage.

the addition of electronic in any squad is very hype and people think theyre going to be amazing, but in fact, it's not much of an upgrade over mir, with respect to winning significant silverware. Obviously electronic is much MUCH better than mir, but in terms of actual impact to WIN titles, it's not a huge upgrade. When electronic and perfecto signed for c9, everyone-- or 99% of cs community lost their shit -- i said at the time that they would never win anything significant. I'm not saying electronic is the problem on VP, I'm just saying he's a good player that adds some value, but a bit over-rated with respect to the level of insanity and zoomer hype he gets. I'm a fan of his nonetheless

Top 10 of most sane comments on HLTV this year. Still >90% of CS fans tend to forget that it’s a team game, and team aspects are super important for results but barely visible to viewers. As well, that it is a game. Which implies that the outcome of a match will never be 100% predictable, and that is what a game is about.

I agree with what you are saying here but I think it boils down to CS as a team game. Signing a single player (especially to frag) never seems to have the effect that people seem to think. It is limited how much the upgrade of one player can change the outcome of matches and tournaments for an entire squad.

The issue is we have no way of knowing what the problem is and how much impact Dastan really had on the team. We get a limited look into the teams, especially for such a secretive roster as VP, and so it can be hard to judge how good or bad changes can be from our perspectives. Keep in mind if they get rid of Jame, they need to kick someone else too to fill the awp role and find another TWO players to add to the roster. Unless they're looking to do a total rebuild, then coach is the most realistic change to be made.

LOL. it might be due to JAME style tbh... no one knows. but now in cs2, many rounds can be decided and called based on spawn. fast rounds and puggy style are quite good if your aimers are super sharp. VP shud try that more to catch other team offguard due to them being "slow" team

Crazy If you really think about it, he coached and trained with Jame and some of the guys in VP rn for a long time. IMO VP's style aint bad, they found success in CsGo, liking them or not, IEM Rio Major Champions. But CS2 requires more dynamic, aggressive gameplay. It sounds weird having Jame, a passive IGL-Awp player but I believe that he can adapt and insert these "modern" ideas into his playstyle. Can't kick any players though, maybe -norbert? Now that his best map Is long gone, but I can't think of someone that can replace him rn, I don't watch alot of CIS cs, but still, thats what I think. Jame once said in an interview that it was difficult for him to maintain his AWP form because of IGL. With the arrival of CS 2 this became even more difficult. Perhaps Jame will refuse the role of IGL, but then he will have to call Elec, and this is not a very option, based on past experience. But maybe it will work in VP
