Is Steam down?? ***

As many others, you're possibly having trouble logging in to Steam currently. Here's the latest info:

"There is currently a wide spread power outage in Bellevue/Seattle impacting Steam Server availability. Unfortunately ETA for when the power will be restored is unknown as the power company will only work on restoring it once the storm has eased and the high winds have died down.
Any issues you are experiencing with connecting to Steam are only temporary, as this isn't an end-user issue."

This means that it's currently unknown when Steam will be available again, rumor has it that it could be several days before everything is running as supposed to, whether this will affect CPL starting this Sunday, is unknown as well.

"More than 350,000 customers lost electricity in Oregon, utilities reported. Washington’s largest utility, Puget Sound Energy, said tens of thousands lacked power, and Snohomish County Public Utility District, which reported as many as 60,000 customers without power, said 35,000 of them remained in the dark late Thursday. Seattle City Light reported about 15,000 outages.
A wind gust of 97 mph was recorded at Rockaway Beach, Ore. The Hood Canal Floating Bridge, which links Washington’s Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas, and the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge, which links Seattle and its eastern suburbs, were closed because of high wind gusts."

I guess I should rather say "No update", still no word from Steam on an ETA thus far, Scott Foster, CPL Tournament Manager, assured us earlier today that the Steam downtime is not going to delay CPL, but at this point, these are the only good news we're able to bring you

Update 07:00 CET
Steam is back up! And back at full power.

"We've just been informed that near full service had been restored."

I'm sure Steam did not call Mr. Weather and told him they wanted a huge storm today, several people has died, so I guess we shouldn't start whining about Steam being down :-) None the less, I'm most certain they are working on it, and will have the Steam Network up and running as soon as humanly possible

either way if its stormy, vulcano goes mad, puts out lava all over the city. there should be backup servers for this kind of game. theres not a person under 10 years, that dosent know what counter strike is. u feel me? theres so many issues in this shitty game. and when the issues pop up, the steam "helper" on the site, is down. if i should define "LOL" this is it. pure un-pro. damn this is shitty!

Its only a game. And like several people already said. Some people dies over there, and you start complaining and whine about Steam isnt up. .. What would you feel if a family member were dead and people around you just complains about their Steam isnt up? ..

Damn crappy that "the most powerfull country in the world" isn´t able to build a better working electrizity-network. Eventualy people died over there and I wonder if a better network couldn´t have avoid such missery... I feel realy sorry for the victims.

Emergency generators plus a well working electricity-network are standarts in most european countrys (mainly western europe). Overland-powerlines are very vulnerable for natural catastrophys, thats why big citys usualy get their energy-inputt from more than just a few powerplants and/or powerlines. Not far ago there were heavy storms over europe aswell but a total lag of energy was not the case. And if there were regions that lost electricity, this was fixed very fast. Maybe our friends over there just don´t find the big red button that say´s "ON" in the dark?! =)

its only enough that your steam has been online all the time before the strom broke down the powerlines, if your internet connection shutdowns suddenlly, steam doesn't log out :=)

There is no ETA on when the servers are back up I'm afraid, all we can do right now is wait for the weather to clear up, and for the data center hosting Steam getting their power back

We probably have no friends cuz of the maintenance... See: There's some huge storm, power's down, so it wouldn't just be like "power's up, everything's available!". They need time to assure that we are going to enjoy our steam at it's maximum property :)
