GG: "We don't care about spectators"

Match starts at GameGune are now being decided by the teams, as the organizers let them decide rather than sticking to the announced schedule.

Prior to the Consolidation Final between Natus Vincere and fnatic, GameGune organizers confronted HLTV.org that the match would be starting at 15:30CET, instead of the scheduled time, 16:00CET. HLTV.org has earlier stressed to the organizers, that matches started before the scheduled time is one of the worst things you can do.

Just twenty minutes later, we were once again informed that the match would start earlier, now at 15:20CET. When confronted with HLTV.org’s opinion once again, GameGune organizers responded "We don't care about spectators, it is better for us and for the players".

Starting matches earlier than scheduled has been a problem throughout most of days two and three. Letting teams decide when a match should start, equals to the teams in a football match wanting to start the match a little earlier, only because they want to. Imagine tuning in on the World Cup final and first half was already played.

It was a problem with the very short time span to change lineups between group stages and brackets for dreamteam. ... and as the article says, spectators like a schedule so they know when to tune in to watch certain matches. After all there's no sport if there's no spectators, so you better please them :p

They have to be pretty retarded tournament organizers then. The spectators are the people who are bringing in the sponsors. The sponsors are the people who are bringing in the green and the green is what is keeping CS going. So if you don't care about the spectators, just don't hold the tournament in the first place dribblers.

Well, it's too bad for the people who are following the event closely, see the next match time and go and do something else in between just to find out that the match time has changed 2 or 3 times. However, saying that it's strange to see the players decide when the match starts is a bit ... The players always decide when the match starts in cs. It starts when all the players are ready. Just usually they only start getting ready when the match is scheduled to start which is why matches are always late, which again is the reason that there needs to be significant gaps in the schedule.

The initial start time was 16:00 local time. I connected at 15:55 and the match was pretty much over. If you look online for movie start times at a cinema and it says 21:00, you don't get there @ 20:45 and find out you've missed half of the movie...

I can see both sides to arguments here: Yes GG are fucking stupid with starting when the players want... and making comments like that. Granted, it is the sponsors who essentially make the event run, not the spectators - but without spectators what benefits are the sponsors really getting?! To counter argue, people have been saying 'oh it's better than a delay'. Well... games starting on time is always an issue. If players came on the server earlier, thats a simple solution... Then if there are any problems they could be resolved by the scheduled start time. The only thing that could hold up a tournament then would be server / power issues. Punishments need to be handed out by organisers for games not starting on time. For example - if a player is running late - or taking a shit or whatever their reasons usually are, then they should be forced to play with 4 until they arrive. If people had the intent to play at the scheduled time, then issues could be reported in plenty of time on sites like hltv.org so the spectators don't suffer. SIMPLE AS THAT

Where is the difference exactly or what kind of difference do you want to draw the attention on? The event this year is smaller than during previous years due to lack of space. Team sponsor appear when they see that not only the team does good at events but also reaches a broad fan base. You think the expected fan base is that of the people that physically attend an event? Obviously not because obviously not everyone, not even locally can attend the event. If the organization does not care about spectators it will happen just as what I saw in a local news program, talking about the party (EUSKAL) and featuring one of the modded pcs you can see a pic of in the gallery on this site. Any mention to the GameGune competition? Not a single line. If that is what they want to purchase, fine, close the doors cut off external Internet access and no one besides the people attending will ever hear of a event formerly known as GameGune. Happily ever after. As for HLTV.org sponsors, well, they make this free service possible, you see.

Nobody from my ORG said that, so it's completely false. I wrote a statement in Nix's computer but dunno why, it's not published yet. Here you have the schedule which is sent to press and teams. As you can see, the last sentence says that "matches could start earlier than expected", but it seems that Nix didn't read that part and just upload the time without asking anything to the org. The matches started early and apparently there then just wasn't any schedule, I mean if matches can start early then the schedule is worthless, how the hell do you expect us to be able to broadcast matches and inform the spectators? We have been working together with you guys for many years, and this is the first time I can remember where matches start early, when a match starts early how can spectators plan to watch it? So the schedule had a footnote saying matches could start early, but come on, we NEED to schedule matches on our page, we cannot just announce that the matches will "start sometime today" - surely you must be able to see that from our perspective.. I have no idea about that quote, and since I doubt anything was recorded it will forever just be our word against yours. We have very much enjoyed working with GameGune, and you in particular, in the past, and very much hope to do so in the future, but you must understand that the need for a fixed schedule is very important to provide the best conditions for actually spectating the matches - arriving to watch a match that is 75% done isn't much fun..
