CPL Picks CS 1.6

While the future of CounterStrike 1.6 remains unclear to say the least, CPL have given the game a vote of confidence by picking it up for their 2007 campaign.

Even though CPL have yet to release an official statement, United States Angel Munoz unveiled the fact in a discussion in GotFrag?'s forums. Reacting on a rather provocative comment by the manager of Team 3D, United States Torbull, Munoz wrote the following:

"For the teams now switching to Source because DirecTV was denied a license for 1.6, I sincerely wish you the best of luck. The CPL is using 1.6 in 2007. Hopefully the "future of esports" can include many different ideas and concepts."

This is rather strong words from the man that promoted CS:Source as "the future of eSports" in 2005, but it indicates that their statement from CPL Winter, about using "seasoned games", are to be taken very seriously.

While the North American teams are gearing up for the Direct TV-competition, it seems like the support for CounterStrike 1.6 will continue. With this announcement both ESWC and CPL have chosen CS 1.6, and only WCG remains undecided on the topic.

Good finally some people who understand the importance of 1.6, 1.6 > CSS so they better start improving CSS a lot before giving up 1.6!!

#7 Angel Munoz choose where money is. This time we are lucky but he made wrong decisions in the past and he will make more. Anyway I hope he sticks to 1.6.

AAa wcg wont be my favourite comp if they pick source bcoz 1.6 is more clearer n more vastly played! and It keeps the profesionals were they are! i doubt that nip, NoA n coL will be as good as some clans out atm. Because source is so much harder to change to and so much camping and less spamming spots n the maps have changed and gotten smaller. Hope wcg chooose 1.6 because best going game of the time :D dRa!L'10

This is all great news, there is just one thing buggin' me... "For the teams now switching to Source because DirecTV was denied a license for 1.6,... " Why were they denied a license for 1.6? Who has that authority? I guess only Valve... and i'll still ask myself why, why, why??!

Prolly because they'd like every 1.6-player to switch to Source. That should grant them an income of quite unimaginable amounts of dollars ;-)

I hope 1.6 will rulle... Source is easy and stupid game for lowskill people who cannot shoot ... 72% biger head 25% biger body SOURCE SUX!!!! but I am afraid, the sponsors of great teams will order to players to play CSS and they will do that for money... CS 1.6 will be lost We can only wait for Promode, I hope it was better..

Looks like we're gonna have the pros playing 2-3 versions of CS this year (3rd as in CSP if it works out).

Why are people are even thinking about switching to CSS? Because of some TV stuff? Omg, a group of talented people can do the same. 1.6 has the unique feel, the same as Fallout 2, Starcraft and many other games (for example Warlords 2 :), and none is whining - they are great games. CSS is just a younger brother of a legend, but it doesn't live up to it.
