DDoS attacks postpones EPS final

DDoS attacks against fnatic members have postponed the ESL Pro Series Nordic season two Grand Final between mTw and fnatic.

The Grand Final between fnatic and mTw in the second ESL Pro Series Nordic started Monday evening at 21:00CET, but should be postponed due to DDoS attacks. First map de_nuke saw mTw starting on the CT side, managing 11-4 at half time. With the Swedes now playing the CT side, mTw got dominated and had trouble winning the clutch situations. Eventually the Danes found their way to secure five rounds to win 16-13 overall, with Patrik "cArn" Sättermon unable to do anything in the last round, due to DDoS attacks.

Second map de_dust2 had just started when the fnatic captain was once again a victim of DDoS attacks, which put the match on pause. Once Sättermon had managed to change his IP and the match was resumed, the attacks continued, only this time against Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund. The match got un-paused and paused several times until the admins decided to call it off and postponed the match, at this time mTw had a 6-1 lead as Terrorists.

"Map 2 and 3 will be played at a yet undetermined time, it is deeply shameful that people actually want to destroy esport like this, but we just have to keep working on solutions so that the issue can be solved." – Said Gustav "flabbert" Karto, Head of ESL Nordic.

It is at this state unclear whether second map will be restarted or resumed from a certain score. fnatic are tomorrow off to Seoul, where they will participate at e-Stars Seoul, which means it won’t be in the nearest future we can expect the continuation of the match.

It has been a sad trend through the entire season, that players during matches are suffering from these attacks, forcing matches to be postponed or teams to use a stand-in. It is not only frustrating for the teams and players, but most certainly also for the spectators, organizers and media.

If your internet connection authenticates to your ISP through DHCP a simple DHCP Release/Renew will do the trick to change your IP. Static IP connections are way harder than that though.

Sure, Lets start with the "DDoS" on IEM. If one would really DDoS a server at the event everything and everyone would go down, not just 1 side of the table that has a freeze ( as clearly seen in the video ). It's far more likely that some retard looped a cable on the router causing random packet loss, but of course you wont be reading that if it were the case. As far as the nordic finals go, I'm nowhere near an expert on the matter but if one would DDoS their IP's ( nvm the part on how one obtains the IP's ) then I'd assume they would bring down the server handing out the ip's , a simple ip renew would have not solved the "DDoS" attack as the server handing it out should still be under "attack". I'm not saying that they weren't attacked, I'm just saying that the little ditch in my front yard wasn't caused by a tsar bomb...

I know how easy it is to DDoS someone with your home connection and in most Scandinavian countries (depending on our ISP) you will have a static IP. This will simply bring down your internet or at least make you lag like hell. About what happened at IEM finals, I saw a screenshot from the out/in-going traffic and it was quite obvious that something fishy was going on. I just think that its wrong blaming ESL, when I've seen a ton of logs where people threaten the players to join a channel on IRC, or they will start the DDoS attacks...

I have to say that I actually wonder how on earth the people behind these attacks have the energy to do them. And after people acting like this, we wonder why the world is often so cruel, people so selfish and thoughtless.. Of course disturbing a cs match isn't one of the more serious offences, but I believe that if you spend your life doing the wrong thing in little situations, you will also do so when the actual situation comes where you should show some respect, and actually give a damn about other people. They can sniff packets from the server to see where they are going. This sucks, people should grow up. Why would they f**k up matches is beyond me. By the way, kaspersky?. I don't think you can stop it since DDoS basically means you are just trying to connect to the server, but instead of just one connection, thousands..
