GRT: "I'm forced to retire from CS"

Former Area51 member Garett "GRT" Bambrough has confessed his situation with the United States immigration department to ESEANews.com.

WCG Canada winners Area51 were two days ago forced to release Garett "GRT" Bambrough from the team, as it became known that his situation with the United States immigration department does not allow him to enter the country, thus making him unable to attend the World Cyber Games finals later this month.

"I’m forced to retire from CS. I decided there’s no way I can play with my guys and not go to these events nor would they want that. So I talked to semphis about replacing me and now I’m done with CS. I’m now focusing on my hockey training to eventually go play semi pro overseas", Bambrough told ESEANews.com.

His situation has its roots to back when the CGS league prospered. Bambrough's first encounter with the U.S. immigration officials occured when he was supposed to travel to the United States to participate in the first season's offline event.

Upon leaving Canada, Bambrough was quickly informed that he was unable to enter the United States, as he did not have the correct visa. This was only a simple mishap, he thought, and furthermore believed that acquiring a work visa would prevent similar incidents from happening again.

At later dates when Bambrough attempted to enter the country, he had to explain his whole situation to the border officials. The functionaries accepted his explanations and allowed him to pass - something that would later prove to be a misconception.

The Canadian was later informed that he needed a Waiver of Inadmissibility, a special waiver which costs $545 according to CBP.gov. In addition to the steep price, it is expected that receiving an approved waiver may take six months or more.

In that case, Bambrough will be unable to attend the World Cyber Games 2010 finals by the end of this month, and the IEM5 America finals.

However, ESEANews.com are furthermore reporting that the World Cyber Games organizers have had a meeting with U.S. government officials, in hope that Bambrough may receive clearance for the event. The meeting's progress and outcome is currently unknown.

I bet he's no good at hockey either haha. :D Also, steep price of 545$? hahaha what would that take..not even a week at burger king? :P On a related note, ive beenable to get into the US well over 10 times (all legally), and my background isnt even the greatest :D

Wow apparently you're noob at life. Minimum wage here is 9.50 an hour. MINIMUM..And thats why I laughed, if he worked at a burger king.. Add it up, its not like 6 or 7$ in the US..Our dollars are worth the same too, so funny.

Yes, 9.50 for any job. Unless you are under 16 I believe it is. Then it changes a little bit. I actually just asked, its not 9.50 until Oct 1. I thought it was Sept 1st it changed :). The only thing is Kiwi, is that your money is worth more than both of ours haha :). I didnt mean for this to be about money, it just seemed very weird to me that he couldnt come up with that little bit of it. Or, that they couldnt pool a bit of money for him. Like it's the biggest tourney of the year, and its really not that hard for Canadians to get into the US. It really made me think that it was not about money :S.

I think shag and him didn't specify they were coming to America to make money during the time they tried to enter the country during CGS. This is a pretty big issue when you are making thousands of dollars that wouldn't be accounted for during the taxation process.

Ah yes, that would be a very dumb thing to do. Even though it would be harsh to have it taxed twice. There's not too much you can do to get around that. Damn the US taxes.

actually it wasn`t the players that were wrong then. It was the CGS organizers not figuring out how to set things up for the canadians!

This was CGS's fault though for not having them get the proper visas at the time. Lin / Stevenson / Lari had no issues saying they were coming for vacation but when Grt / Shag were questioned by customs I think something came out about the issue.

Just so u know, no one in canada that has ever played CS has had to get a visa. Canadians dont have to have a visa to enter. CGS said they were going to take care of it and did not hence why i got stopped at the border. Getting a Visa is easy as hell, its the fact that CGS lied that prevents me from getting to the states for now. Now u can apologize :)

He got screwed because of two possible reasons. 1. The time he crossed the border, explain the situation to the border guards and they let him go. What ever happened at the bored was handled in correctly by either or both parties resulting in him being considered a immigration violator, which then would cause him to be barred from the country without a waiver of inadmissibility. 2. When he was living in us for CGS he did not haveproper documentation for him to live and work in the US. Then if he satayed for over 180 days the government would make him a mmigration violator and bar him from the US for 3 years. Then if he was in US for a year or more it would be bumped to 10 year.

From what I know, this thing is not over yet. WCG Canada's SP is the subminister of the economy in some canadian province and has the ability to make it happen. That said, it`s still up to the US authorities. Plus, in the case he would be allowed in, then a51 will have 6 and will be allowed to pick their s5 and use semphis(GRT depending on who`s ready to play) as a coach to call strats as others focus on IG actions
