The organizers behind Electronic Sports World Cup have announced the groups for this year's grand event.

Gathering the world's elite in France, the much-anticipated tournament will see four groups of five battle it out for a share of the staggering $33,000 prize fund set aside for this year's event.

A total of eight teams were handed invitations to the event, while the rest, except defending champions Natus Vincere, have gained access through online and national qualifiers.

Top two sides of each respective group will advance into the playoffs stage, which will be played in a single-elimination, best-of-three manner.

Winners of the male and female tournaments will collect $12,000 each, with the runners-up receiving $6,000. The female tournament, however, will only feature 12 teams in two groups.

Just as the male tournament, top two sides will enter the playoffs stage, which will also see the women fight it out in single-elimination, best-of-three mode.

In my mind, GROUP C = Group of death! Why? Na'Vi and WinFakt fighting for the top 1, with Anexis and defs trying to get one slot for the brackets... M5 suck on SEC? Maybe you watched another tournament than I did but the SEC I watched, M5 played dominant in their group stage and played 1 close map against FX the other map was less close. M5 is still one of the best teams in the world and too bad they are always facing top3 teams in the playoffs. SK > AGAiN M5 > Lions DTS > ESC

well believe me if they had announced the rules for the groups the way they published them last night, only few teams would of paid that trip...we wouldn't of been one of them..I heard that ESWC rejected teams who already had booked their tickets to Paris just because the event didn't have enough time to handle 4x4 groups.

FX (FX always underperforming in the groupstage, they will play better in later stages of the tournament) B 1. SK 2. M5 C 1. Na'Vi 2. Anexis D 1. fnatic 2. virus (mouz are favorites but tend to disappoint on lan and virus has an imba lineup capable of upsetting mouz and french teams have a good record against german teams)

yes, it sucks that at least one of those teams will probably not make it to the playoffs. I would have preferred to see M5 swap with mouz so we can see fnatic vs M5 and DTS vs mouz with a chance of both teams advancing. dts is underrated, they are a very strong team. m5 is vulnerable against dts, I'm sure they would have preferred to play against mouz.

because it was originally designed as a "match" calendar not an "event" calendar. This was probably due to the vast amount of online leagues and matches that were getting played. Since most of the matches arnt known until the day before or day of, you can see why they are not shown in the calendar. at the last lan championship lions lost FX with score 1-2, much time has passed, with zneel they can break anyone, especially when bo1. arguments like "you played them on lan" are most most stupid ever, its like "they're better then you" for sure, but im spectator so i got my point of view. yes they're seems to be much weaker, after all changes in team, moddii is not what he used to be (hes steal beast) and well no1 can replace kalle, and they got no stable line-up once it was suranga now zecer (?) and no official comments from them, they played x matches like a mix so you rly can give them a credit to beat top3 team in the world? be serious.. lions are rly good, its the reason why i dont wrote anything about them, they can make top3 in good shape what about sk, sure they can lose couse dts is rly skilled team with good aiming wise, but not rly experiance but they can reach good place in tournament, what about m5 they unstable like hell, one day they can fight with top5 team another they're just worse than mix, but still SK is rly solid and they showed it like a week ago when they won another tournament, so for me Group A is 100% again/lions and second group its a ruffle, but still going to put sk/dts

Given recent (LAN) results, that looks pretty much spot on. I agree Lions are probably stronger than all the teams from Mouz down, but seeds are based on results, not form. Edit: I guess you could dispute SK over Navi, but taking e-Stars and SEC into account, it's basically 50-50.

Nice group, pretty balanced if you ask me. My group stage predictions (no particular order): Group A: AGAiN, Lions Group B: SK, M5 Group C: Na'Vi, WinFakt Group D: mousesports, fnatic Play-offs: I think mousesports and fnatic will both do really good. I even think that mousesports will reach semi-final at least, though it depends on their opponent. Of course Na'Vi will perform well as well as FX and SK. Btw fnatic really have to prove they are still a top team in the world. They definitely have to place top3 to be happy I think.
