UMX.us wins ECL 2011

ECL 2011, a four team invitational tourney held at a TV studio on October 20-25 in Beijing, China has ended with Ultimax Gaming USA taking the title and 20,000 RMB in prize money after defeating eFuture in the Grand Final. The event paid for all costs for the invited teams and handed out the prize money in cash.

The tournament featured an odd format where the four teams faced each other at first in a round robin to determine seedings for the following single elimination bracket. eFuture managed to win the group, directly qualifying themselves for the finals while TyLoo secured a spot in the top three with their second place. UMX.US placed third while UMX.TW placed fourth in the group, setting the two UMX teams up for a match.

UMX.US beat their Taiwanese counterparts 16-10 in the playoff opener and went on to face TyLoo to see who would go on to the grand final against eFuture. Despite their group stage loss on de_inferno, the Americans were stronger this time and came up on top with a 16-9 win on de_dust2, qualifying them for the grand final against eFuture.

The grand final started off on the map the two teams faced each other on in the group stage, de_dust2. Once again UMX.US improved their form in the playoffs as they turned an earlier 13-16 loss to a double over time win with a score of 22-20. Second map was de_inferno where the Chinese were stronger, winning the map with a score of 16-11.

The third and final map de_train turned out to be slightly controversial as the game was tied at 15-15 after regulation. During late second half eFuture used the flashbug in alley at least twice (as ECL wasn't using the fixed maps) but organizers had the teams finish the match, and eFuture came out on top with a 19-17 win. However, ECL decided to overturn the match due to multiple flashbugs from the Chinese.

ECL 2011 Final standings

1. United States UMX.us (20,000 RMB ~$3136)
2. China eFuture (10,000 RMB ~$1568)
3. China TyLoo (6,000 RMB ~$940)
4. Taiwan UMX.tw (4,000 RMB ~$627)

ECL 2011 was UMX.US' second tournament with former EG leader Nazar "steno" Vynnytsky as a stand-in leading the team. They attended IEM6 GC New York earlier this month where they managed to place 4th, beating EG in the process.

maybe you've slept from 2006 to 2011 then cuz 1 year ago when alex was still playing TyLoo was still an awesome team, more or less at WMF's level, and only EG could compare to them, even though they never got the money to attend international events outside China

I must argue that using the flash bugs is cheaper than objecting to them. I.e., breaking the rules is cheaper than asking the refs to uphold them.

However, ECL decided to overturn the match due to multiple flashbugs from the Chinese.  nope, just a cheap play by UMX. there was only one accidental flash bug thrown by efuture player @ alley on a eco round, yet none of the UMX players were there. The flash bug had no effect on the outcome of that round. UMX is the disgrace of US 1.6 teams, a team that talks crap and got beaten by a pug team @ lan

What does the numbers 666 have do to with my intelligence? Jezz.. Oh wait you believe in God:O Now who is smart... I couldn't have my original nick so I added these numbers, is that really your comeback in an arguement? It is like lurppis also told: american teams split up after a badresult, like old coL(evolution thoMz hero Xp3 and someone) they went to Stockholm, Sweden for Arbalet Europe, they got a 16-14 win, 14-16 loss, 15-15 so they went home, after that, they split up, but their result was OK considering the oppontents. They make teams to win, when it goes a little rough, they change roster, they are greedy. And like many other american teams.. Btw, your country is not in the center of the univers, like many americans thinks.. Edit: I was not supprised that a stupid american made a comment..

Maybe you havn't noticed this. But fnatic is fnatic... they don't need 10 hours a day anymore bud. They replace quantity with quality, something that is impossible for all of us because we are not fnatic. We don't have teamates with an ultimate understanding of this game. We don't have the opportunity to play against the best players in the world in practice scrims to apply what we practiced. They can get away with it because 1. they are already at the top and 2. they are among the top, and can practice in better quality. Secondly, muscle memory? Muscle memory is the development of a paticular muscle or group of muscles' familiarity with certain incremental movements. Practice is not just about muscle memory, unless all you practice is aim maps. Practice is supposed to be about evolving through a common goal. Getting better together with every fiber in your bone. If you even slack off practice for one moment it throws off the tone set in your head. And it has to be lasting, meaning it has to be a complete mental workout to the extent of near exhaustation. And such a thing can not be accomplished in a mere 3-4 hours unless you are fnatic and get to play amongst the most brilliant minds in the game. You need to work your brain to it's threshold and beyond or it won't develop a beter understanding.
