WCG selects Kunshan for 2012-2013
The World Cyber Games has announced that the Chinese city of Kunshan will be the host city for the Grand Finals in 2012 and 2013.
Reports about this move surfaced last month, claiming that the WCG CEO Brad Lee had been in Kunshan to sign a two-year contract, which would grant Kunshan the rights to host WCG in 2012 and 2013.
Today, the WCG announced that Kunshan will indeed be the host city for 2012 and 2013, with the event taking place at Kunshan International Convention & Exhibition Center. This is will be the second time China gets to host WCG, following the 2009 Grand Finals in Chengdu.
WCG CEO Brad Lee stated the following on the WCG website:
"This year's host city selection process was very careful due to the intense competition among excellent candidate cities and after considering many factors, the World Cyber Games Committee came to a clear decision to go with Kunshan.
WCG 2009 in Chengdu was extremely successful and we believe WCG 2012 & 2013 in Kunshan will be the greatest ever with the wholehearted support from Kunshan city."
Kunshan, a city located in the greater Suzhou region in China, has enjoyed a massive economical growth over the past 10 years, and was ranked first in the "25 Best County-level Cities in China" study by Forbes China in 2010.
The 2011 Grand Finals will be taking place next month in the South Korean city Busan, running December 7-11 in the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center Hall 3.
