CSP Deathmatch weekend testing

The CSPromod team are inviting the public to test their upcoming Deathmatch mode feature this weekend.

Although everyone's attention is mainly focused on the upcoming Counter-Strike: Global Offensive these days, the people behind CSPromod have been hard at work and now come bearing news.

For those of you who are new to the whole idea of CSPromod and what it actually is, the developers' frequently asked questions website explains it like this:

"CSPromod is a 100% custom-coded Source engine modification. Its goal is to bring the gameplay, feel, and competitive spirit of the original Counter-Strike to the Source engine, along with improved graphics and new features."

The game's current release version is 1.08, with 1.09 having been in the works for quite some time now. This weekend, the public will get to test CSPromod's planned Deathmatch feature.

A problem CSPromod has had to deal with in the past is the rather low level of activity. For the weekend, the team will only host two official servers, but there will be additional servers available.

In fact, CSPromod developer Saul "Saul" Rennison has informed HLTV.org that there will be a lot more servers than first anticipated, expecting the number to be in the 30's or more.

A Swedish game hosting company even offered to make 20 to 40 servers located in Sweden available for the public test weekend.

It should be noted that this is only the alpha phase of the Deathmatch mode, which means it is far from ready for release. The CSPromod team is thus depending on feedback over the weekend.

Although the 1.09 release is still down the road, some of the changes meant for the upcoming version will be put into effect this weekend, like the implementation of predicted deaths.

The development team will release the necessary files you need in order to play sometime during tomorrow. If you wish to participate in the weekend testing, here is the installation guide.

If you are interested in knowing more about the team's work and the game, the frequently asked questions section covers a lot.

"A problem CSPromod has had to deal with in the past is the rather low level of activity." Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't ESEA host CSP servers until the devs tried to force ESEA to pay them for the privilege because they wanted to be in control? Since the U.S. scene is localized on ESEA, that means it'll never take hold in the U.S. Of course American CS is a very small part of the pro scene, but if the CSP devs intend to lock down the game like that, is there any chance it will take off? Moreover, is it even worth playing if they plan to do that?

Instead of making another useless CSS, i mean CS:GO, valve could pick up these guys, offer them job and build CSPromod officially. I always claimed that promod is better CSS, but i believe it could be more like 1.6 one day. gj

while the idea is great, i'm afraid valve guys would mess up promod... afterall, they're paying. no the good thing about promod as it is... is that it is 100% community made... so we know it will be almost perfect, if it ever gets completed :)

I've just installed the game few hours ago, played it and was really positive surprised. The game really feels like 1.6 with Source graphic. I was playing it for like 1,5-2 hours or so. I'm really looking forward to test Deathmatch mode. So far so good CSP team.

CSP is just 1.6 on the source engine AND it's in beta so it's getting fixed to suit us 1.6 players. If only valve can pick them up, we can make a good switch, that's if CS actually dies though which may take a few years still.

Stop what you're doing right now, go to cspromod.com and download the latest version. Install it and play it. Tell me it doesn't feel like 1.6. Sorry, but I read three posts from you and its clear that either you haven't touched the thing in a long time or you just don't understand what 1.6 is in the first place and how well CSP replicates it. I'm sorry if you may have gotten burned on some donation that Alex Garfield screwed you out of but the fact at the end of the day is that these guys are making a DAMN good version of the game we've been playing for the last decade and change and this sort of thing needs support if we want a future where we are still playing a game that is competitively viable especially if you're from North America. I'm in the CS:GO beta and while the game has potential, the sad truth is that the game is still very far from being competitively viable and Quake 5 isn't coming anytime soon either so this really is the best option for guys like us who appreciate competitive FPS whether you like it or not.

Isn't it possible to make a game which has the same movement, recoil and feeling like 1.6 just with better graphics for example ?! Is this so difficult ?! That is exactly what the community wants if u bastards kill 1.6

I dont think it would be difficult but noone can do it because Valve ownes all rights to CS. They wil release "new" CS instead of remaking old one because that will bring more money.

That's exactly what the CSP-devs are trying and their getting closer and closer to 1.6 with every new release. Try CSpromod, search for differences to 1.6 and tell the CSP-devs about them.

It's the CSPromod team, what did you expect? Everything about this project has been delayed, so why not this DM testing.. I really did, as well as you, hoped that this was true and no delay would appear, but I was proven wrong. I think it's quite sad, especially when it comes to maybe 1.6's true, and only savior, for a already large scene. I hope they'll soon will get their fingers out their *****, and give us something final. How long has this project been arround? 3 years or so? To long imo.. I know it's voulenteer work, but still.

Complain? Yes, but I'll bet ya, that I say what a hole lot of other people think as well. And well, maybe I whine a lot, but I'm just frustrated about how long this project has been under progress. None the less, the information by the CSP team, has since the started lacked. A thing that I think would not have taken many minutes once in a while.

I'd be more thankful. It's not like they owe you anything.

They owe me nothing, no, but their vision/mission about the cs promod, was never from the beginning set to take this long time, it already has.. They give us hope ealier, than they can realize to the hole community. They should instead have waited to publicate it, till there was actually something out. But it's good your thankful, but when they will finally come out with a ready product, people will already play something else (of course not everyone) - Though I hope they'll prove me wrong. :)

3 years? Are you kidding? Try closer to 10 in all. Between the different developers. Alex Garfield of EG took donations for years towards CSP. Promising 1.6 with better graphics. Then never gave the community even a decent beta.

Played it for last hour or so and so far it is flawless in terms of bringing 1.6 feel to Source engine. I don't get why Valve puts their money into utter shit game CS:GO is, instead of this.
