dotpiXels win EPS Summer 2012

Germany finally found its new champions after years of mousesports' domination, as dotpiXels won what was the last season of EPS in CS 1.6. Quite unexpectedly, the underdog team defeated Alternate in the final on two maps (16-13 on de_tuscan and 16-10 on de_nuke) and won the first place prize of 4,300€.

At the end of the previous season it was obvious that Germany will find new champions in the Summer and that the domination of the disbanded mousesports will end. The main favorites for that have been the constant runner-ups in the past years, Alternate, but also the last season's 2nd placed team myRevenge. Another team stepped up during the online stage, DkH, who managed to top the standings before the playoffs.

Eventually, it all came down to four teams, with Roman "roman" Ausserdorfer's dotpiXels joining the three aforementioned favorites at the EPS Germany Summer 2012 LAN Finals in Cologne, Germany.

In the first semi-final match, dotpiXels pulled off somewhat of a surprising win over DkH in two maps, 16-14 on de_tuscan and 16-8 on de_train.

The second semi-final started even more unexpectedly, with myRevenge beating Alternate 21-18 on de_nuke. However, the favorites responded in a convincing fashion, winning the next two maps, de_tuscan and de_dust2, both with the score of 16-7.

In the grand final between Alternate and dotpiXels, things again started going down an unexpected path. After a somewhat even battle in the first half of de_tuscan, dotipiXels went into a 9-6 lead and quickly improved on it in the second half. Alternate attempted coming back from the big deficit, but their former player Ausserdorfer's team eventually won the map 16-13.

On de_nuke dotpiXels played even better, while Alternate couldn't find any open space and it resulted in a 13-2 lead for the CTs. Six rounds later, Alternate somewhat made it back, but then they lost a round to face an 8-14 deficit. Although dotpiXels' economy was reset right away, they weren't fazed by that and a couple of rounds later they climbed onto match point at 15-10.

At that moment, the server crashed resulting in around 15 minutes of break. However, that didn't help Alternate much as dotpiXels clinched their needed round straight away, queuing the celebrations for winning the EPS Germany Summer 2012.

In this quite an underdog story, two Danes and three Germans formed the dotpiXels lineup which finished the regular season in 5th place with an unimpressive score of five wins, one draw and four defeats, therefore not being seriously considered as one of the candidates for the title. At their first step in the playoffs, they defeated SFTO to reach the LAN stage, where they then beat regular season's top team DkH in the semi-final.

In the grand final they completed one of the biggest surprises in EPS Germany's history by defeating Alternate 2-0, thus preventing their opponents from winning their 4th title, while winning the first of their own. Their best player during the campaign was expectedly Roman "roman" Ausserdorfer, who won the 7th EPS title in his career, two of which came a long time ago with Alternate in seasons X and XI.

In the 3rd place decider, DkH managed to win over myRevenge with a 2-0 score (16-9 on de_dust2 and 16-12 on de_mirage).
