ESWC group draw

The group draw for the 2012 Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) finals has been made, with the 10 participants in the CS:GO tournament being divided into two groups.

Highly-favoured Ninjas in Pyjamas will have to lock horns with mousesports' German team, Area51, ProGaming.TD and LowLandLions.

The winner of the French ESWC qualifier, who will be determined on Thursday, only one day before the start of the finals, will face FM-eSports TOXiC, Anexis, ESC Gaming and n!faculty.

The group draw was based on the seeding distribution for the tournament, which was made in accordance with the teams' results in recent tournaments and in the national qualifiers.

It was feared that an early showdown between NiP and VeryGames - who are widely expected to come out on top in the ESWC qualifier - in the group stage was in the pipeline, but the two teams will not be able to face each other before the play-offs.

Only the top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, which will be played in a best-of-three mode.

Group A
Group B
Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas France ESWC France winner
Germany mousesports United Kingdom FM-eSports TOXiC
United States Area51 Denmark Anexis
Brazil ProGaming.TD Poland ESC Gaming
Netherlands LowLandLions Germany n!faculty

In the female CS:GO tournament, defending champions UBINITED will come up against ALTERNATE, Epsilon eSports and blackWidow, while in the other group, Pink Zinic, now known as 0+, will meet Reason Gaming, inFernity Ladies and the winner of the French ESWC qualifier.

Group A
Group B
France ESWC France winner United States UBINITED
Sweden 0+
Germany Team ALTERNATE
United Kingdom Reason Gaming
Belgium Epsilon eSports
Czech Republic inFernity Ladies
Spain blackWidow

HLTV.org will be in Paris providing live coverage of the ESWC finals from November 2-4, so stay locked to our website for all the latest info on this event.

That's a hell of a group, wish Dynamic would have been the ones to go with their current lineup but A51 will do well(guessing #2 in group).

1a/1b/1c online, honestly. They're incredibly even but who knows on LAN. I like HMO(now Curse) the most out of them all but that's more of a personality thing than skill. If HMO can get it together on LAN they'll be a contender for a long time.

i can't see a single reason why hmo's terrible lan showing from last time would suddenly work out better next time, i can't see them really competing with dynamic or area51 at esea lan but we'll see.

HMO actually played really well if you were watching, and they were on their way to beating A51 on nuke, but they kept making too much noise to the point that A51 were able to rotate perfectly every time and HMO were unable to run one surprise site take or fake effectively. This happened during a lot of their matches. If they're able to fix that problem, and if their online performance is any indicator, they'll be able to improve a lot next time. It's also their first season playing CS.

yea but area51 has also improved TONS since then, it's tough to say but i can't imagine their rate of growth as a team passing area51 as long as they're motivated to get better at cs:go. they know how to win in north america, hmo do not. big difference confidence wise.

you're right about the confidence aspect, and it plays a huge role. the fact that A51 and DYNAMIC are going to get international experience when HMO will not also is going to play a big role for NA competition. at the same time, i wouldn't count out HMO's mindset for the game. they're used to winning in a variety of competitive shooting games, they have arguably the best work ethic in NA, and they're literally not afraid of any team that the game has to offer. mentally, they're an extremely tight group of players who have been playing nonstop with eachother for years. if they became motivated by the right sponsor, i personally believe they could become the best team. all the pieces are there, only time will tell. they all have a great amount of individual skill, a lack of ego when studying the game and learning, professional level teamwork, and the hunger to prove themselves in a new competitive environment.

HMO probably have more LAN and tournament experience than TD and A51 combined... just not in CS haha. The individual skill is there, just need to get the tactics up to par with the likes of TD and A51. I think it's fair to give them a few seasons of experience before fully judging them.

the people on the canadian/american crossfire teams (which i believe hmo used to play as well?) were the BIGGEST fans of frod at wem 2010, which leads me to believe that is an indication they failed at cs before playing a game with less competition to become "good". doesn't mean i'm right, just my speculation and hmo certainly haven't proved anything on lan, yet.

I don't know what this has to do with what we're talking about, could you expand on it? HMO(now Curse) come from a variety of games with no real CS background. Being as this is their first real season playing CS and I think they've done quite well online. If they can transfer this over to LAN and get more experience they'll for sure be a force in the future. They've got a lot of LAN experience in various other games, I'm sure it can transfer to CS eventually. e: There's not a lot of big LAN tournies in NA that they can prove themselves on against other top competition.

they're probably pretty good at picking up new games quickly if they've played multiple games, but i can't see them beating the likes of semphis at simply figuring out new shit about a game constantly and improving at it etc. esea finals were enough for 1.6, i don't see why they would not be with cs:go, especially with the global finals coming up

i don't think he realized how seriously A51 was going to approach CS:GO, and that he wanted to play with friends again. either way, at least he and KiKO found the best alternative to them possible.

No I mean the nationalism, the "anti North Americanism" stems from the overall disgusting nationalistic tone the comments section here boils down to. Eliminate the ability to display "your" country and it'd go away.

i think dynamic is really good and i think they will be top 2 in north america for as long as they maintain a stable roster, but i know how hard some of the guys in area51 work, and i can't see that getting beat as long as they're motivated. we still do not know how swag/kiko fit in dynamic, they only have 3/5 of the old players from their dominating period in cs:s left on the team.

i wouldn't expect him to make right decisions at that age, but we had tons of older people with more experience telling him which decision is a mistake and which isn't, and he still decided to play with friends instead of playing in a winning team (at least he's in a better team now)

you saucers hype things too much, in the only 2 LANS of CS:GO history the 1.6 teams have been much superior than the source teams, 1.6 has been much more competitive and harder to master for 10 years, the 1.6 teams will probably keep their dominance without problems. Gonna be interesting to see how much damage ESC does without enough practice though

well, to start, there's a huge difference in backgrounds while the 1.6 teams have been playing against the best and most prepared teams in the world, the source teams have been playing some random events against regular to low teams and the difference shows, look at the recent events (CPH Games and DH Valencia) both won by 1.6 players. also, there's a lot of hate from the sauce scene to us, and they overrate their teams quite a bit but in reality the css teams are a lot weaker than they seem, just look at the results between 1.6 teams and css teams.

a month? I hope you're kidding, go read the news and watch neo's stream, they've been playing 1.6 events and neo has been playing LoL much more than CSGO. they're unprepared, you can't compare NiP's training to ESC's, it is just a huge difference.

techlab took place a week after that, thats 4 weeks (1 month) and it was played for like 4 days, add it travel time and you got yourself a less week of alleged CSGO practice. so, 3 weeks or less are now enough to master a new game? I don't think so. NiP and other teams are playing CSGO for months now since they didn't had any posibilities to attend tournaments.

Well, it's just groupstage anyways so it doesn't really count but probably the other guys are just not able to attend. If I'm remembering it right the Alternate guys are all working beside playing and one of them is really busy during weekends with it (not 100% sure though). Probably the same for the guys from gamed!de. I mean it's in like 3 days. I would have chosen Alternate I guess. Only from the germans and their results.

i don't understand why it's even a second german team to go, from a marketing etc perspective it would have made much more sense to send a team from another country that isn't represented yet (e.g. russia[which is for sure a big reason they picked rush3d to begin with], ukraine, finland, etc)

In my opinion they have too less spots anyways since there are MANY teams out there right now. Every country should have the possibility to qualify.

What are your predictions for the group stage? Or are you not allowed to post things like that on here? I'm just interested to know what someone with actual perspective thinks.

NiP and mouz are both really solid teams man. this is basically where we find out how well practicing in North America pays off for its teams. Troubley is insane, watch out for him.

We beat plenty of swedish teams in 1.6. mostly on the level of LIONS and H2K, but EG beat fnatic to win an event, and NA teams have beaten plenty of teams from other countries.

last time a team from the USA beated a swedish team and it was considered an upset was when JMC won against NiP in CPL 2005. It has been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time since then, CS changed a lot and since 2006 the euros have raped intercontinental competition. EG winning Fnatic BEAT IT wasn't an upset. EG had an incredible lineup with lurppis, goodfornothing and n0thing, three world class playas plus fRoD and storm.

lol, swedes have been raping teams from the USA since the very beginning, remember NiP vs X3? SK 2003? NiP vs Team3D? SK 2005? fnatic 2006 and the euro domination that followed? the last USA title was with the help of lurppis (EG at Fnatic Beat IT) and to compare A51 to NiP is another stupidity from your part, Area51 lost against n0thing's team in the ESWC qualy so there's a better USA team but due to swag's choice of screwing his then teammates, A51 gets to travel and NiP is by far the best GO team atm.

Area51 vs mousesports should be an interesting fight for the second spot in Group A. Group B is a bit random. France qual. winner (VG or Millenium) should place 1st, while the 2nd spot could go to either fm.toxic, Anexis or esc.

not according to the results of the qualifiers, because every team in attendance earned their spot the hard way, other than n! who were given a free spot. This is the best CS:GO event to date, so I'm not sure where you're coming from.

Yes, and it's a loaded statement. This tournament has NiP, Verygames (likely), Area 51, mousesports, Anexis, and arguably the best brazilian CS:GO team right now (especially with their bootcamp in europe). no other CS:GO team has ever offered this much competition. Are you arguing that the rest of the spots don't contain skilled enough teams? Because this is the best tournament that any group of organizers have ever been able to put together for CS:GO. Until another tournament does it better, you can't bash it and expect people to agree with you. Considering every other team that you may consider "bad" won their individual qualifiers, and weren't just given an invite (other than n!), it means that they earned their spot and proved themselves. Any team that did NOT do that can't attend, and that's why they're not in Group A or Group B right now.

You can tell the groups were biased in favor of ESC. The only reason Group B would be as weak as it is is to give them the better shot at moving out of it, but I still don't see them doing that.

It is still a very very difficult group to get out of. Anexis have pretty much won everything there is to offer online, and have been in amazing form. VeryGames were a dominant force in Source, and will not be an easy walkover especially what they learnt after DH Valencia. fm-eSports TOXiC are a solid British team, with BARBARR and should prove to upset a few people. ESC have had a rocky start in CS:GO but are finally finding their feet in the game. n!faculty look to be the weak link in the group currently, but they will take heart from the fact that they drew with Mousesports in EPS recently.

ESC was given a shot at making it out of their group on a silver platter. The organizers clearly believe they're a top 4 contender, or they wouldn't have been placed in the imbalanced/weaker group. imo they still won't make it out of groups.

you could be right, but i'd honestly put my money on brazil to be really strong, given their bootcamp time. i only recognize cogu though, so it could go either way. mouz, NiP, and A51 are all really good, so if TD manages to even be decent, it would make group A a lot more stacked.

I think that TD can make a upset against mouz and area51, they are training intensively for 18 days, I believe it's not enough yet, after ESWC they will continue training in IOL and will be stronger for Dreamhack.

they are the best players from Brazil, they have good skill, with cogu helping them, who has a huge intelligence about tactics (who created several tactics of the old mibr), they have everything to be strong team. but they are training on a high level only for 18 days, I think it is still not enough, but let's wait and see.

i'm guessing you mean the best source players, because i'm pretty sure everyone has the understanding that the best brazilian players are fnx, nak, bit, FalleN, btt, etc. i'm rooting for brazil though, except against A51 :p

they still got a huge advantage over overhyped source teams, source competition was nothing compared to 1.6, in 1.6 you had 15 teams on a very close level and 5 of them dominating the world, in source they had like only 1 decent team for years.

ESC has spent a fraction of the time playing GO compared to every other team attending the event. Having all 1.6 players also means they don't have the source input to help them adapt to the engine/strats. as much as we all love ESC and 1.6, you're overhyping them in such a way where you've left logic out of the equation. they won't make it out of their group.

considering no one else has offered to do preds, we'll take what we can get. and i'd prefer him to be atheist, or else we'd get those NiP are no match for LLL with the power of christ behind them preds, like those religious guys always seem to do.

Dear piarasty () shit! Trying in vain! This stuff no one needs! Even people abstracted from 1.6 to see that the game worthless. Question to all kinds of angels, and why you have not moved in time to the Aroma because this is the same product but with a different name? But at least 20 weeks of play - this game will not be less shitty! Try not to push GOuano sign of respect as ordinary gamers and the professional community. Valvil raise your snickering ass and do something really new and revolutionary. Make a game that rightfully replace 1.6, and garbage eat yourself!

It's ridiculous to say that WinFakt deserves spot. they aren't even in top40 in CS:GO and that is quite bad finnish CS:GO "pros" as ex cs 1.6 "pros" are and were people that have really low level education in real life and you really can't expect that much from guys who can't even get to high level of education (university and so on)

Easy groups for NIP and ESC, somehow i get the feel that tournament organizers favor these two teams, but its good that they are in different groups which makes final pretty easy to predict. Go Neo! Go ESC! show NIP how strong poland is!
