Epsilon win RaidCall EMS One Cup #1
At the start of the new ESL Major Series season, Swedish team Epsilon has won the first cup by beating NiP's executioners n!faculty in the final 2-0 (16-12 on de_train_se & 16-5 on de_mirage_csgo).
The Spring 2013 season that will hand out $39,000 in prize money started with the RaidCall EMS One Cup #1, hosting 24 teams including the likes of NiP, ESC Gaming, Imaginary Gaming and Absolute Legends.
It began yesterday with the first three rounds of best-of-one action, when we already witnessed some upsets. In the first round Absolute Legends were knocked out by German side dotpiXels, while the second round saw ESC exit after a 16-11 loss to k1ck. Slovakian-Czech team 3DMAX also lost in the second round to Germans DRUCKWELLE in a tight 16-14 clash.
In the end, it was NiP, n!faculty, Imaginary Gaming and Epsilon that lived to see the next day by reaching the semi-finals.
As the action started today, we saw one of the biggest upsets in recent times as n!faculty defeated the Swedish giants and reigning EMS champions NiP with a 16-12 scoreline on de_mirage_csgo.

disruptor's n!faculty upset NiP in the semi-final, but then lost to Epsilon
In the other semi-final Epsilon, who reached this stage after a double overtime match against DRUCKWELLE, made light work of their clash against last season's runners-up Imaginary, winning 16-5 on de_inferno_se.
The unexpected final match-up began on de_train_se where n!faculty were unable to continue their strong play and Epsilon came out victorious 16-12. The match moved on to the map on which the Germans beat NiP earlier, de_mirage_csgo, but they were run over by the controversial young Swedish squad who clinched the cup with a 16-5 win.

After the tournament, ESL took a statement from the winners' captain Tonoy "Lox" Prince who had the following to say:
"It was a really good tournament for us, we need all the practice we can get before the LAN-events coming up. Great matches against the top elite of Europe.
"The early stages of the tournament were difficult for us, with some surprising teams playing very well (knocking out 3DMAX in the process), their strats were clean and they gave us quite a scare! And today we were really hyped to meet NiP in the finals but they lost against n!faculty on the earlier round. The match started and we felt that we had a good roll from the beginning and we just went with that and felt like we had this one in our bag.
"After the first map (train), we were worried because they had just beat NIP 16-12 on mirage, but after a strong CT-side, the confidence grew and we closed the first match. Then we started on the second map on mirage and lost the knife round which lead us to start T. We won the pistol round and in the end we managed to close the last map with 16-5 in our advantage.
"Great tournament guys, and I want to take the opportunity to thank our sponsors (Nike, Razer, PlayZ, Hiperz, Multiplay) by believing in us and sending us to the next lans which is Swedish Masters, Copenhagen Games, and NLAN. Thanks, see you soon!"
Epsilon will receive $600 for their efforts, while they also secured 100 points in the overall ranking. There will be three more cups like this one where teams will gather points, after which the best placed 16 will enter the group stage of the competition. That means that the likes of NiP and ESC still have enough time to secure their place for the next stage.
