happy* tho HLTV says its an unranked event which is a bit sad, I wonder why that is, dont know what rule they broke that stops it from being a ranked event, Asia could really use them

That would be because the event is next year, and therefore comes under the new Valve rulebook. They will have nominated it as unranked themselves.

I dont get what you mean, I understand its under the Valve rulebook, im trying to understand what rule stops it from being a ranked event, and if it doesnt break any rules why would you ever decide to make it unranked? I dont think it would stop any top teams from coming out of fear of losing points since they wont be much ahead anyway

It's not breaking a rule as such. TO's have to nominate if it is ranked or unranked (and what tier event if ranked), as there are different restrictions on events based on what they nominate.

yeah but then im just confused why they would do that, I dont see what they're doing that cant be done as a ranked event so why would they choose unranked

I would say the simple version is that if they ran it as a ranked event, they would have to use the Valve standings for invites. Where as being an unranked event means they can invite whoever they want.

but theyve only invited mongolz, every other spot is open quals

Yeah, but if it was ranked they would have had to invite every other team ranked above Mongolz first. Being unranked avoids that.

Im pretty sure youre allowed to just have one invite and say its the asian invite, no?

Not in a ranked event. Just went and double checked. Currently it stands as Tier 1 must use from position 1 down, Tier 2 must use from position 9 down. The only other thing about invites is that there must be equal or less than the number of qualifier teams. Ironically enough, Mongolz are currently 9th so they would have been able to use a Tier 2 ranked event if they specifically wanted to get them in, as they would have been first in line. But I'm pretty sure that they had to announce next year's events by the start of September at the latest, so they probably didn't know that at the time.

ah okay yeah its the number of invites you have to send, which is weird imo. Why arent you allowed to have more qualified than invited teams. Thanks for the explanation tho I get it now

Other way around. You can have more qualifier teams, not invited ones.

"Some of the biggest limitations on Ranked events include being required to invite 1.5 times the number of teams who will compete in the Main Event via the Regional Standings. Half of the teams competing in the Main Event can be invited directly, while the rest has to go through a closed qualifier." All the PGL tournaments are invite only so I guess if you count a play-in then its a "qualification" for the main event or what am I missing? Either way I dont know what mongolz were ranked but youre probably right about them being just considered T1 so they had to go unranked to invite them

At the end of the day Valve needs to come out and clarify things, because the article I read said that there must be as many or more qualifiers as there is invitations.

Also really want Semperfi to make it, usually I would root for art of war here but they got screwed over during the RMR so I hope their effort pays off here. (Also really cool that the top 3 AUS teams arent in this qualifier but it still has a solid lineup, futures not so bleak as it seemed before)

kinda hasn't been bleak - it is just nobody really watches au cs. There has been definitely some amazing talent in the au scene.
