NiP breeze past VeryGames into semis

Ninjas in Pyjamas are through to the Copenhagen Games semi-finals with a 2-0 victory over VeryGames (16-11 on de_inferno_se, 16-2 on de_mirage_go).

The first map of this best-of-three tie was de_inferno_se, where NiP got off to a good start, taking the first three rounds on the Terrorist side. The first full buy round then went VeryGames' way, but the Swedes immediately regained control of the game, as Adam "friberg" Friberg cleared the path for the bombsite with headshots onto two opponents.

After that, VG decided to go on eco and gave away another round, with the scorebord now showing 5-1 in favour of the Nordic team. VG then pulled one back as NiP lost the bomb on the entrance to B, which allowed the Frenchmen to rotate to that site and take down the remaining players.

But once again, when VG seemed to be crawling their way back into the game, NiP responded to the French team's round with a round of their own, which forced the Frenchmen to go on eco as their economy was in the shambles.

Against all expectations, though, VeryGames opted for a single eco, and so they went with two Famas and three M4A4s into the next round. The move did pay off, however, as they got three kills early in the round, which allowed VG to take the score to 7-3.

NiP then enlarged their lead by winning the next two rounds, but for the remainder of the first half, VeryGames showed glimpses of their undeniable talent with quality team-work on both bombsites and some amazing individual play by Kenny "kennyS" Schrub.

A rampant start from VeryGames saw them take the first four kills in the second half, which allowed the French side to take the lead for the very first time in the match. But NiP leveled the game immediately after: after VG did a fake on A, they entered the other site, where Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund's double frag delayed them to the point that they had no time left on the clock to plant the bomb.

That round proved to be the a turning point, as VeryGames' players looked a bit helpless, unable to break through NiP's defensive setup. The French side would still pull one round back to make it 14-11, but NiP comfortably won the next two rounds to take the lead in the tie.

mirage yet again a bad map for VeryGames

Both teams then moved on to de_mirage_go, where VeryGames had shown some problems earlier in the tournament during their match against Lemondogs. Therefore, it was with little surprise that the Swedish giants took the lead right from start after winning the pistol round on the CT side.

It took VeryGames a shocking eight rounds before they finally figured out how to win a round, but it was mostly due to NiP playing aggressively and being careless. After that, the Swedes took the score to 10-1, and even though VG would be able to reduce the deficit right after, nothing was working for them as NiP ran out 16-2 victors.

I heard they gave first place prize to NIP before they even showed to the tournament. I guess they didn't want to offend them by making them wait til the end.

Xizt MotM imo, f0rest did an awesome game as well. But xizt had more important frags imo, to much eco kills for f0rest, got like 3-4k three times or more. Don't mean that f0rest didn't do any important frags, he did. But xizt did really a great work this game.

ScreaM have a negative score BUT, look at that headshot percentage! waaaa. But i think that is also his weak point. IMO, bursting+recoil control while aiming the head is BETTER THAN aiming the head with 1 bullet at a time. I mean burst release 2-3 bullets while tapping(1 bullet) maybe can just release 1-2 bullets.

No, I meant that, if you find it boring, I wonder why you're following it or even commentating it. As for the NiP story, I don't honestly think that to have a team to beat is boring when there are true competitors (which is the case now). In fact, I think that NiP's invincibility is one of the things that keeps the scene interesting. Cause no matter how many events they win, everyone wants them to lose, and everyone wants to see the next event to see if they're going to lose. And if they do lose, what could be interesting is a real rivalry between them and the team that beat them down, seeing the two of them in great finals and such, until finally a third teams step it up, etc... If you follow tennis a bit, Roger Federer was pretty much invincible for two whole years, until Nadal, then Djokovic and then finally Murray came to challenge him more and more. Now he's not winning against them anymore (he's older, but still is in good shape). I expect kind of the same thing to happen on CS:GO scene.

i respect your opinion. so for answer at your question, it's the last event that i'll follow since there're all the best teams. We can clearly see that NiP is just unbeatable. i dont think they will lose on LAN soon. the only thing who made cs:go interesting was the drama by NaVi in this CPH. so, i'm sorry, but this game is just boring, with a boring scene: NiP & The rest. It's not like they win always in a hard way. It seems just too easy for them. It's like watching (with your tennis example) NADAL against top300 random guy. in comparaison, CS1.6 was really fun to watch. Everyone can beat everyone, u cant predict who will be TOP1. that's my point.

Of course 1.6 was like this because the game had so many years behind that so many players had had the time to get to the best possible level. We can see that other teams are obviously catching up. And it's just pure logic, I mean even if you consider f0rest and Get_Right, they are indeed among the best players in the world, but they had a lot of players who could compete with them on 1.6, so if them achieved to reach a high level of play, there is no reason other people can't do it. But I understand your point of view, I personally will continue to follow the scene, because I find it very entertaining. P.S. don't forget that Nadal lost to Lukas Rosol (top100) ;)

everyone always whines when I suggest replacing x6 with apex shoxie or uzzi, because he is IGL, but if his tacs were so good then why can't they perform sh#t on a map like mirage? also why is a team made up of 5 fraggers (xizt did not even have more than halve a year of IGL exp under his belt when they started playing CSGO) winning every tournament? I realise aim and frags isnt all there is to CS, but it is an important part and if players do not perform for over a year in that department (oz, ex+ceh9 -who isnt even IGL-, some people say loord too but Id make an exception for him personally) there is a time to make a decision imo ^_^

I think there are two issues for VG. 1st is that they obviously need more skill. But if both teams are in a good day, only Ex6 is below the average skill-wise, so with good strats it can work. 2nd is that they definitely have mental breakthrough with NiP. I'm pretty sure they're obsessed with them. The fact that immediately after taking the lead on de_inferno they completely waste the next round is a big hint. There's also the 13-2 lead on de_nuke on ESEA, again wasted big time, that comes to my mind. They simply don't believe they can win. Unless they completely change the way they see NiP, I don't see them winning against them. Like, ever.

I understand what you mean by the NiP thing, alot of teams would get this "mental block" but ESC VP etc etc are starting to give VG beatings, while a team with scream kennys smithz and even NBK should be able to win more of those matches, even if you take NiP out of the equasion

I agree that ex6's skill is one of their problems, but they would need someone very strong minded to replace him and level-up the team. You can see in LAN footage that VG relies on Ex6's lead a lot for motivation and mental preparation.

Yeah, maybe, but what I meant is that if the IGL replacing him doesn't have a strong will it might not work at all. Cause Ex6 is pretty dominant in his lead with his players (but maybe that's where the problem is ^^).

I really would like to see ange1 fill ceh9s role if the '2 captains on 1 ship' thing doesn't mess up their teamwork I think it could make navi a spectacular team. and no I would not place him on their exact spot but ceh9 isnt the player he was in 2010/2011, when he still occassionaly had great clutches he is very smart and works hard but I really prefer ange1, because he is both those things two + clicks heads like no other current IGL except xizt

no he's not. the amount of headshots he makes is quite low for a top player. he does position himselve really wel and is quite smart, which kind of makes up for it most of the time

Holy hell. Can't imagine how VG feels about being rag doled over and over again. :/ 1.6'ers are truly too strong.
