CS:GO at DH Summer with €24,000

The DreamHack organisers have confirmed that this year's Summer event will feature a CS:GO tournament with a €24,000 prize pool.

DreamHack Summer 2013 will run from June 15th to 18th in the city of Jönköping, and, as usual, it will be an event that should not be missed by any eSports enthusiast, as the world's finest players will flock to compete for cash prizes.

After Starcraft II had been announced as one of the games on show at DreamHack Open later this month, as part of DreamHack's International Championship, five games, including CS:GO, have now been added to the list for the Summer event.

Valve's FPS title will boast a prize pool of 200,000 SEK, which is approximately €24,000.

CS:GO will return to the big DreamHack arena

Dota 2, League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth and Super Street Fighter Arcade Edition will also have official tournaments at the Swedish event.

Meanwhile, the DreamHack organisers have indicated that this event will be even bigger and better than its predecessors following the expansion of Hall B. The new eSports area will cover 4,000 square meters, and there will be two stands, each one with 850 seats, in addition to the 1,100 seated DreamArena.

Below you can find the games that will be played at DreamHack Summer and their respective prize purses:

Dota 2 - €35,700
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - €23,800
Super Street Fighter Arcade Edition - €6,000
League of Legends - TBA
Heroes of Newerth
- TBA

Whatvwas the prizesum at DH:W? More, correct? :) Wonder if that had anything to do with viewership ^_^ sure, DH:S is smaller but at DH:W GO had more money than DotA 2, this isn't the case now.

Right, how so? Summer is known for being a smaller DH stop. Saying DotA2 is bigger in terms of money is silly, because it currently has been "bigger" in terms of prize money across the board.

At DH:W CS:GO had more money than DotA 2. This time around it doesn't. This is because of the viewership, guaranteed. If this negative trend for GO continues, the money will be less and less. Hopefully Valve and the GO-fans will realise it before it's too late, so we somehow can save FPS. But i'd say we're pretty fucked.

yet stumps what the game is doing at present. At the end of the day, events would like to appeal to each of the genres, so FPS will still be supported in a decent way.

The money is fine at the moment. The source scene was kept alive with very minimal money. But with GO, there are enough events over the course of year, and theres plenty of time for the game to grow.

"The source scene was kept alive with very minimal money. " Well I guess that depends on what your definition of alive is. To me, GO right now is barely breathing and Source wasn't even close to being alive. Kind of makes me sad when I see FPS compared to SC2/MOBA's. I mean, even 1.6 2011/beginning of 2012 was bigger then what GO is now.

You need to clue up. Of course 2011 1.6 was bigger than CS:GO is. Two reasons. 1) 1.6 by 2011 had been around for 8 years. 2) Had a religious cult following 1.6 GO has been around for 9 months, you really expect it to be AS big as 1.6 after 8 years? Jesus. Talk about manipulating arguments.

Being old isn't a good thing in the game world, stating anything else is just delusional and ignorant. GO was supposed to bring together three scenes, the 1.6-scene, the CSS-scene, and the CoD-scene. Instead it isn't half as big as the scene of an 8-year old game back in 2011. That is just embarrassing and awful. Also, Schypher posted a link around that showed that 1.6 was bigger in it's first months than what GO is now aswell (more spectators). And the e-sportsworld was very small and undeveloped back then.

Total Prize pool for CS:GO at DH:S is 400,000 SEK = $62,000, If we count the eSports SM with Teams only from sweden, which happens at DH:S. And that makes The biggest CS:GO tourney and more money for NiP :D
