Curse release Finns; Hawks return

Curse has decided to release the Finnish team they have housed since November. The team will continue together under their previous name Hawks.

The team hasn't been able to replicate their THOR Open success since the departure of Niko "naSu" Kovanen and have had to make a few roster changes along the way as the addition of Timi "aslak" Verkkoperä didn't pan out.

With Verkkoperä on the team they managed to win LanTrek 2013 after a few close series in Tampere, but weren't able to attend any international events as real life commitments forced them to skip Mad Catz Vienna.

The Finnish squad has most recently won ESPC #2 in Helsinki, after a disappointing showing at Copenhagen Games where they were knocked out at 17-24th place by Xapso.

KHRN's team part ways with Curse after Copenhagen Games

According to Curse's website, the organization felt it wasn't fair splitting all of their CS:GO resources among the two teams and felt it would be more beneficial to focus all of their efforts on the North American squad.

Added Joona "natu" Leppänen: "Unfortunately with our contracts nearing their end, it was an obvious time for both parties to make plans for the future. It was in the best interest of both parties to go our separate ways."

Regarding their future, he continued: "But with one period ending, another begins. The team will be staying together no doubt and we will be known once again as Hawks, for the time being."

Hawks:

Finland Aleksi "allu" Jalli
Finland Jesse "KHRN" Grandell
Finland Joona "natu" Leppänen
Finland Timo "reflex" Rintala
Finland Jonas "ScurK" Finnilä

Hawks will continue participating in ESPC's online league in hopes of qualifying for the finals at Solid Gaming 2 in Helsinki, just over a month from now. Interested organizations can reach the team at [email protected].

they were very good until nasu (with whom they had those close games versus nip, beat fnatic, etc) left, but haven't been able to get to the same level without him. in general people aren't good at separating teams after a roster change (e.g. verygames pre-scream and post-scream).

you aren't very smart are you? they beat the fnatic of december 2012. unless they possess a time machine (which i haven't heard of at least if that is the case) they couldn't have played the fnatic of 4 months later.

fnatic was playing with a test lineup, and was small on hours back then. so question, is that win really remarkable when you compare it to a close overtime versus nip?:)

There is no excuse? When you are such a big fan of analyzing things, one would think that you should consider that fnatic, as xyp9x said, was low on hours.. gg for beating them then. But ofc, you are the almighty Lurppis, so you can just throw an insult in the face of someone who is correcting you, and people would once again think you are right...

At what point am I making excuses? It's common knowledge that the fnatic back then hadn't practiced since they had played cs 1.6 till the end and made the switch far later than most other teams including the finnish guys. fnatic didn't even have a stable lineup and were still practicing with different players, hawks beating them isn't really such an achievement when most teams were overcoming fnatic back then. Comparing that win back then with the result with nip, just doesn't make that much sense to me.

remember when eg lost against na`vi at wem 2010? well, i'm not making excuses, but it's common knowledge that a) our eg team didn't have time to practice b) we knew it was our last real event together c) me and frod didn't get along d) dboorn didn't have time to get used to the team e) air canada lost my bags on the way there f) some of us were sick g) we were tired... at what point am i making excuses? edit: or, is the only thing that matters that na`vi beat eg, and curse beat fnatic?

why would he bother to make excuses for a team he wasn't part of? anyone on HLTV can say that fnatic back then were shit and it doesn't mean they're butthurt or making excuses for the team it's fact. fnatic hadn't practiced, they stuck with 1.6 and were automatically behind all the other teams so yeh the win over them wasn't really a great achievement. how on earth does that mean xyp is butthurt? he only said the nip achievement can't be compared to fnatic because it can't, they were opposite ends of the spectrum. nip had practiced, had a stable lineup and were at the top of their game. fnatic was no where near close to any of those..

no.. but to make an excuse would suggest they were strong in the beginning and then they were weak to imply they need an excuse for a weak performance. but they were ALWAYS weak in csgo in the start. they didn't have any stability or understanding of the game so curse beating them wasn't an achievement in the same way taking NiP into a near overtime was. it's not like xyp was making excuses for the team being shit because it's obvious a team without any practice in a game or a stable lineup isn't going to be able to beat teams consistently who had those things

Do you even read tasha's comments? :D fnatic WASN'T really a notable win, because they were new at the game and praccing with a lot of different players. Ofc they had some big NAMES on the team, but they were all NEW in this game :D? Did you see how sucky ESC etc. were in the beginning of their CSGO-careers as well? I know that you know fnatic was sucky in the beginning, you pointed that out in #80, so why do you keep calling them a notable win?

it's usually memorable to win against the big organizations, even if their team sucked. esc were actually pretty good early on, most don't remember they were only a few rounds away from a top four finish at eswc 2012.

Yeah, but just because organisations are big and have a history, it doesn't mean they are worth mentioning at the moment. An example of that would be 4Kings (and yes, they are faded, but still). I get why you did mention fnatic, but I don't think it's "fair" calling Xyp9x butthurt cus of that, cus he got a valid point. But it seems you got a "beef" with him cus of the Hawks vs. CPlay-thing, so I guess that's why :D

lol hawks just lost to our mixteam in Finnish espcleague and half of our players don't even have 120fps in cs:go. They sure are doing so great. I think little critic could be in place? Considering the majority of the U.S would probably have a hard time placing russia on the world map, any European country gets simplified to representing the whole of Europe.

Was know little bit before, when adreN on stream asked anger, shouldn't they have names like Curse anger, not Curse.NA anger. Anger answered that fins doesn't yet know and then adren was like "Ooo shit" and turned off the screen for a moment.

i don't think he was ever good at cs:go, simply because he never bothered trying to. every time i watched him play it just looked like he didn't care at all, never tried to aim, simply sprayed every time he saw an opponent etc. i think it hit him how much he disliked cs:go when we went to asus final battle of the year in december and played cs 1.6 again, but to answer your question, no, he doesn't like cs:go.

I see well you're his brother after all who could possibly know more than you into this matter anyways, since you won't play CSGO at all at least i guess is a good thing you will be busy doing work for HLTV and ESEA right? Its a real shame you won't put to use all that incredible knowledge and insight you have about CS dude honestly just by listenening to your casting one can tell how much of a geek you are when it comes down to CS but anyhow gl in whatever future projects you and your brother have :)

i mean i have my priorities straight, i work in esports because a lot of it is fun, i make some part time cash and if i didn't do a lot of what i do, i don't think anyone would, so i think it benefits everyone around. aside from not liking cs:go i think i'm just getting too old to practice hours and hours a day five days a week. i did that from 2004-2012 basically non stop, so i've thoroughly been enjoying all the free time i've had in the past +1 year. time to move on for me i guess ^^

if naSU could stick together with the initial lineup they would have been top5 for sure. either way it is not worth spending too much time at a game that has no future after 2013.

If rumours about aslak joining ence are true, I think ence will be top1 in Finland this year Anyway sad news for hawks that they werent able to do any better for curse after lineup changes. Good luck in future.

it's not like he will stay in that team for longer than it takes him to become good at cs:go, and then he will start playing with a team with more potential (e.g. curse after him replacing someone)

No they didn't and apparently the support from Curse in whole was somewhat laughable. At least allu and reflex weren't really holding anything back when bashing the american organization on natu's stream. Not that they truly deserved any of it after nasu parted. :D natu: By the way I'm streaming. allu: I don't give a fuck. I believe this was day after allu's grand initiative to make CurseEU absolutely whineless team where everyone supports and loves each other unconditionally. :D "At least we showed up." - CurseEU, 5.12.2012 - 26.4.2013
