Virtus.pro in huge comeback vs ESC

Virtus.pro came from behind to beat ESC Gaming 16-14 and progress to the playoffs of DreamHack Summer.

It looked like a one-sided, boring, game at half-time, but the second half turned out to be very entertaining, as Virtus.pro pulled off an impressive comeback to beat 1.6 rivals ESC Gaming on de_mirage_go and secure direct entry into the knock-out stages.

The Russia-based side claimed bragging rights first, picking up a 3-0 lead after winning the pistol round thanks to Emil "kucher" Akhundov winning a 1-on-2 situation on the A bombsite.

ESC then reduced the deficit to 3-1 after Virtus.pro had run out of time, and Mariusz "loord" Cybulski made it 3-2, confirming that he is in great shape with a four-kill round. The rest of the first half was practically a one-team show, as ESC claimed a 11-4 that looked very comfortable going into the second half.

ANGE1's ace changed the game

Things then went from bad to worse for Virtus.pro, as ESC won the pistol round and the first anti-eco round, but a desperate buy from the Russians actually paid off and allowed them to reduce the deficit to 13-5, with Kiril "ANGE1" Karasiow picking up an ace against low-health opponents.

Against all odds Virtus.pro remained in the driving seat and went all the way, winning every important clutch round as they picked up a 16-14 victory that was a true testimony to their fighting spirit. Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács himself turned in a great display in the second half, the Slovakian having secured a lot of important AWP kills.

I wanted one thing from this match, for ESC to not be owned and not lost their temper, but even worse thing happened... They were winning 13-5 and managed those the game. All the close rounds went to VP. IMO this lost game will break ESC spirit and they will play bad rest of the event. I would to be wrong so badly :-) Gl ESC

interesting on vp is that every match some other team member will hold the team, now it was ange1, sometimes it is kucher or dosia and so on.

He didn't play that bad, he just didn't get too many chances to get a kill (at least on CT side). I am not gonna comment TT side - whole ESC apart from PASHA played really badly in TT.

Golden Five is really coming back, I hope they put this through. And I love how lord and kuben are really not the underdogs in this game (I know, they were great in 1.6, but they didn't get the attention they deserved there) performance wise.
