Lemondogs win 2on2 tourney over NiP

Lemondogs have won the 2on2 World Championshop at DreamHack Summer 2013 by defeating NiP 16-13 after overtime, bringing them 100,000 SEK (~$15,500).

Due to time constraints this tournament named 2on2 World Championship and held at the Telia booth at DreamHack Summer 2013 switched its structure to bracket instead of having the 8 teams play group stage first. Also, earlier today fnatic forfeited their spot and the organizers invited Lemondogs instead to compete for the winner-takes-all 100,000 SEK prize.

It would turn out that the replacement team would come in and turn some heads, firstly eliminating ESC 13-6 on de_nuke_se and then edging out Virtus.pro in the semi-final on de_dust 13-11. Especially worth mentioning was the last round of the match against the CIS-based squad in which Simon "twist" Eliasson scored an AWP headshot on Kirill "ANGE1" Karasiow through the double doors and also wounded Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov in the same fashion only a second later, which practically won the match for his team.

Lemondogs' twist led his duo to the title

On the other side of the bracket it was of course NiP that reached the final, represented by Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund and Adam "friberg" Friberg. They beat Curse on de_nuke_se 13-10 and Western Wolves on de_dust 13-9.

It was the Lemondogs duo that started well on their de_aztec CT side, taking 5-0 and 8-1 leads, but Alesund and Friberg got the final three rounds of the half to feel comfortable before sides changed.

NiP quickly got into the lead at 10-9, but the server was DDoSed at that point causing a short break. After restarting the match Lemondogs led by Eliasson's AWP turned their fortunes around and took a 12-10 lead. And that wasn't all we'd see, as Alesund stepped up in the last two rounds, including a nail-biting 1-on-2 to take the match into overtime.

It was in vain though, as Eliasson's AWP proved to be the deciding factor that led Lemondogs to clinch the match 16-13 and claim the 100,00 SEK prize.

2on2 World Championship standings

1. Sweden Lemondogs (twist & xelos) – 100,000 SEK (~$15,500)
2. Sweden NiP (GeT_RiGhT & friberg)
3-4. Russia Virtus.pro (ANGE1 & Dosia)
3-4. Denmark Western Wolves (gla1ve & Nico)
5-8. United States Curse (Skadoodle & AZK)
5-8. France LDLC.com (kennyS & apEX)
5-8. Denmark Copenhagen Wolves (device & cajunb)
5-8. Poland ESC Gaming (Neo & pasha)

cos it shows what a fucked up perspective sponsors and organisers have on CSGO. putting up that much money for a stupid 2on2 tournament instead of putting up the smaller amount for that, and a huge prizepool for the 5on5. i realise it was different organisers for the 2on2 compared to the main, but why didnt the organisers of the 2on2 just put up all that cash for a seperate 5on5 tourny of their own? it would have had much more appeal

Great fun, shame the server lagged like fuck in the final as that really lost NiP their momentum. I won't say the magical D word, but if that actually happened, they should be ashamed because at the end of the day this was a fun tournament shaped into promoting CSGO, with top players playing for some money and banter. Enjoyed it though, Anders is wonderful and is now a star man for CSGO's casting future :)

At this very moment I am sat at the hotel after a day of more than 14 hours straight work, I havnt had anything to eat and I´ve been trying to look through the feedback which isnt all of it helpful or friendly. I am really happy to hear the 2on2 was fun watching because I had no idea what I or Heaton was saying 90% of the time. The hall was so loud and I honestly feel really dissapointed in how the day ended. Thanks for the kind words though Tom.

Ignore the shit comments like "Anders is shit..." focus on the constructive comments like (for example) "Anders tends to call at three times the speed and sometimes it can be difficult to hear what he is saying clearly, he also calls a few things wrong as well." That is an example btw, not actual feedback. I actually thought you and lurppis (for me to say this about him is hard) but you and lurppis stole the show and really did well, you guys nailed a good chemistry, kept people interested and lurppis analysis of the games actually helped. You also for me made the 2v2 tournament so much fun, I know HeatoN was there as well, and I love HeatoN as a player, but I think he as you say was affected by the loudness of the hall beside you. At the end of the day you really shone this weekend, and that is a massive credit to you. I have seen nothing but positive feedback about you over the weekend through Twitter, Cadred and on here.

youre joking right? anders is not very good, ricks(rickz, not sure what hes called.) natu, pansy, joe, warclown all of them are much better. Im really sick of hearing this from anders, Oh he takes down dosia, a really important player to take down, and this could be really good for NiP. and when hes done explaining how important that frag was, 2,3 more frags have come out of the round. during last starseeries playoffs i changed to the russian stream, because i couldnt listen to the guy, but if he works on his flaws in his casting, he could become a very good caster.

i also felt that 2on2 on classic maps is pointless.. why bother organize a 2on2 when its on classic maps anyway.. i thought the point of the 2on2 tournament is to offer the viewers something spectecular and out of the ordinary and to show off the individual skills of pro players.. 2on2 on classic maps isnt much different than a 2on2 that results of 3 players dying on t and ct side now is it? except for a few minor things but i guess you get my point

Technically not as NiP won both the main tournament and Swedish Championship, so NiP took home just over $20k whilst Lemondogs took home this.

its still fucking bullshit isnt it? why the prices dont look like: 1. $7,000 2. $3,500 3-4. $1,500 5-8. $500 its way better and fair for the other participants and I assume this tournament is more 4fun so let it be 4fun and give all the teams 'something' like IEM/EMS tournaments, even the worst team on the event is getting some money

Too much money for a bullshit tournament that wasn't even played the way it should have. And getting DDOSed? nc It's sad that sth like this happens at the end of a great 3-day show.

Have you considered the fact that some teams may of had flights late night/early morning (ie Curse). I can understand why they changed the format if time constraints were put on them due to the teams wanting to compete but had to be gone by a certain time.

lol The initial scheduling itself was very limiting, and the flight argument is a really tricky one since it should've been communicated earlier by both parties not on the spot in the last moments. Considering the circumstances the change is understandable(I never said otherwise), but that doesn't change the fact that a 2v2 SIDE-tournament should have the same prize purse as the main tournament.

Yeah true however DHS is a smaller LAN usually compared to DHW, so focus was on the Swedish Championship, whilst this 2v2 was ran by somebody else and hosted at DH.

This tourney sucked and im glad nip lost. Watched the first match with Heaton play by playing right over nips shoulder and 20 ft away from curse. Could nip hear game commentary on position where as curse could not idk, but it was a very amateur set up.

There was shitload of noise going on,a live concert and shit,it was almost impossible to hear commentary in the first match, then production changed microphones and many settings so it was better. There is no way any player could have heard anything except their headphones, concert & events were going on almost all the way.

What a Lemondogs embarrassing victory. First, enter two strangers on the server, (magically), each in a team, players talk to them and tell them to leave. The two go. After they left, suddenly, the server starts to go wrong, lagged, just when NIP starts winning. How curious ... Embarrassed that only you can beat NIP with traps. If you dont truste me, look at the DEMO. GO NIP.

Why do ppl bother about the prizemoney? Doesn't change anything and who cares about which ppl who get paid. Almost all casters are shit/terrible aswell, just to clear that out. Listen to redeye and get_a_clue, then cast matches.
