Edward completes new CIS superteam

Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev has now been confirmed as the final member of the CIS-based dreamteam Astana Dragons, whose roster was partly leaked yesterday.

Yesterday saw Virtus.pro remove their CS:GO squad while Yegor "markeloff" Markelov departed from Natus Vincere. They were rumoured to team up with former Virtus member Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev in a new Kazakhstan based project.

Now Sukhariev has been confirmed as the fifth player in the roster, proving early reports of Sergey "Fox" Stolyarov or former DTS and Virtus player Emil "kucher" Akhundov joining being incorrect.

Edward rounds up Astana Dragons

Now the team funded by Kazakhstan E-Sports Federation has been announced with the name Astana Dragons. The roster consists of three former Virtus.pro members and Na`Vi's two biggest stars.

The team will be housed in Kiev, Ukraine, similar to how Natus Vincere got started in 2010. Their first event will likely be DreamHack Bucharest, and they plan to attend all the big events that are coming up.

Sergey "lmbt" Bezhanov will continue his job from Virtus.pro, working as the squad's manager. Below is his official statement regarding the new Astana Dragons squad:

"I am really happy that I have invitation to stay with my friends and to work with them and I am sure that we will build our future step by step here in new organization and will have great time together."

In-game leader of the squad, Kirill "ANGE1" Karasiow also chimed in with his statement to explain the motives behind this move:

"Hard times, hard decisions. Main goal for uniting all of these players, is to be the best, other options are not acceptable. And I believe that our new organisation wants the same, and will give us all conditions to reach it."

Finally, we also received an official statement from the president of the E-Sports Federation of Kazakhstan, Ilyas Sarsenbayev:

"We have great players, I'm sure that we will have good results very soon. We will do our best to become one of the leading esports organizations in the world, so we have great work to do. I hope all of you will enjoy spectating our games and stay tuned for the updates."

This move means Natus Vincere are now down to just three remaining members on their roster, although Arseny "ceh9" Trynozhenko's earlier tweet suggested they will be okay.

Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev also left a statement on Navi-gaming.com regarding his departure form the team that dominated the Counter-Strike world in 2010:

"I'm leaving Na`Vi. It feels like leaving a home which I grew up in. This is an incredibly difficult decision, one that I didn't make lightly, but it is time for a change, time for something new for me. I will fondly remember all that happened in our team in these three and a half years, especially how it all began, our first victory.

"Thanks to Arbalet for his invaluable contribution to the beginning of our journey. Thanks to all my guys for all the victories and defeats that we experienced together. Thanks to Alexander who built this organization, which I hope in the future many more will call their family."

The newspost also states that the organization does not plan on announcing more news regarding the Counter-Strike squad before Monday, July 22nd.

yeah but besides them being stars individually, I also see this line-up working as a team. They have an insane awper (but they had that already, so maybe no improvement there) they have an insane IGL/entry fragger (same as for the awper though) kucher was a great backup player, really clutch and good aim, but I like to think edward steps that up a notch. dosia stays, a mad fragger like edward (though in CSGO edward seems less consistent in doing that than dosia) adren back instead of fox, now I think this will make a great difference, because with guardian (or now markeloff) fox, who is an insane sniper imo, was forced into the role of rifler, in which he was decent but by no means as good as adren or edward. so this feels like a big + for me (don't get me wrong I hope fox joins another team where he is allowed to do the awping, because I think he is amazing) also I feel really bad for shaGuardian x(

I'm going to screencap this and use it against everyone who still believes Navi were individually some of the best counter-strike players in the world, when in fact, they were just one of the best TEAMS. If we really go as far as to accept it's all about smokes in CS:GO, which it isn't, there's still the fact that using smokes appropriately is for itself a strategic element of the game. Furthermore does this alone imply more layers of strategy, since a team has to strategically try and make the smokes have less of an impact on their strategies and execution. As couner-flashing is not that big of an element of CS:GO these days, something I can see becomimg more popular in the future is counter-smoking. It is already there to some degree, but it can be used for agressive maneuvers aswell (for instance, if the CTs decide to smoke upper mid on inferno, the terrorists can smoke towards either arch or quad to gain more area of control by running through the smoke at upper mid without having to fear opponents, since they'd have to run through smokes themselves in order to deny control of that area. And because they can't see if the terrorists decided to run through the smoke in mid - let alone hear - this also makes for some neat fakes when it gets more popular and develops). So, even disregarding other strategical elements that are there to the competitive state of play today, the smoke dynamics alone could make for some complex layering of strategy.

Well, in the end it always comes down to who hits their shots. Strategy is about getting into positions and situations where it is easier to be the ones hitting their shots, or where it doesn't matter that much if you don't hit your shots for that matter. Let's take the inferno example. Just taking the map control of upper mid alone is strategically valueable and can decide rounds on its own regardless of who hits their shots, because getting that deep into the site and having the time to set up properly, you can trade even if you should be the first team to lose players. From there on out, you are free to set up for a after-plant situation almost instantly, as the rotators have triple the way to the bombsite - not even the sickest aim will break a smart after-plant situation. Don't get me wrong, I do agree that there is much less to winning rounds than there was in 1.6 for example, and I do agree that "strategy" most of the time plays a way smaller role in doing so than having aim and being clutch, but to say there is no strategy involved because of the smokes is just paradoxical.

Wasn't that exactly same in other cs versions? You could always counter smoke, it's not just csgo. Your argument is invalid. When it comes up to strategy csgo has much more into it. Thx to be able to smoke over the top of certain buildings can help you smoke out certain areas so you can push the site or whatever instead of just waiting and picking.

they weren't useless, i dont know why you're drawing extremes off of everything i say. you needed more than 1 to completely smoke out an area. if you wanted to smoke arch at B on inferno you needed at least 2-3 to get the job done. which means if you have a strat you cant waste them. in csgo if you have 1 smoke you can smoke the entire arch and if they try to push it theyre immediately visible and you can kill them

They changed that visibility outside and inside smoke with the last update as far as I know. It's just the way the game is build, I personally like it, with a good coordination you can smoke out with 4-5 smokes whole bombsite and plant the bomb. Now you can screw it up with one anti smoke or Molotov. In my opinion make the game more tactical, cuz it gives you more options with where and how you place smokes. Also as I said more team cordination, therefore requires more team work.

no, they changed the smokes clipping through roofs in the last update. its actually less team coordination, because instead of relying on your team mate to help you stop a rush all you have to do is throw one smoke. where and how you place your smokes? you place them on the choke point, how is that more tactical?

You don't get what I mean, for example banana smoking bombsite a. One placed on coils, one on ct, one on dark spot, one on new boxes and whole bombsite is smoked out, forcing cts to come out from positions and play aggressively or wait for smokes to be gone. In my opinion is more tactical then throwing 3 smokes on ct just so you can cut off one player and quick rotate and focus on another player on site. Placing smokes correctly takes hours of training and hours of training of team coordination

Probably, however as the game is still under a year I would say its tighter than it has been to find the top awper. There are a few and if KennyS becomes more consistent then I wouldn't be surprised if he is regarded as the best.

Lol no. That's not about that, he was just SICK in 1.6. He was way more consistent that kennyS is in GO, way more impressive also than GuardiaN. He was sometimes winning games alone with his awp. He just needs more time to feel the awp in CSGO. kennyS has sick reflexes, but he's lacking consistency. GuardiaN is way more consistent but not really spectacular. markeloff was both on 1.6. He will be soon enough on GO I believe. It takes time to forget 1.6 mechanics to get those of CSGO. At least, longer than it takes for CSSers to adapt. (btw this last sentence isn't a debate starter, it's a fact).

Yeah. I agree on most of what you're saying, but I also think it's because the awp itself isn't nearly as strong as in CSS/1.6. We have seen both kennyS and Guardian rifle from time to time, so i don't believe that he would ever be so sick in GO contra 1.6. Because he needs to improve as a rifler aswell because he was one of the full time awpers in 1.6 :)

I could be wrong, but there is little difference between the Dosia, AdreN, ANGE1, and Edward. On current form, they are definitely better than markeloff. As for AdreN, he is a pure FPS talent. He was a monster in both 1.6 and Source, and now GO.

Support player or back up. Unlike mad fraggers or entry killers, support players would play the round for a majority of the time. They get trade kills. They hold angles to take off any aggressive pushes, look for peaks, scout the bomb sites and guess how many hold ppl are inside a site and pass on the information to the team. They hold good game sense.

stats can be misleading. Loord stats are poor. But the support he offers as a back up player is excellent. From an observer's point of view it is easy to look at the frag chart and estimate a player. But the truth is, in game, if you a player who takes out forest or get_right all the time and dies later instantly his KD ratio would be 1. But to me he is a better player than most because of the contribution he made in game. AdreN used to be a entry fragger in VP just like his role in K23. Entry fragging is the hardest job in cs. Don't expect massive KDr from such players. Further AdreN's ping is too high when played online. It effects the game a lot. So lets not talk about stats. I am sure he does not have to be a mad fragger as eddy will take care of it. He just have to do his job which i believe he can.

This team just looks incredibly scary, you have four incredible riflers and one AWPer who has also looked extremely impressive with the rifle as of late. True, Fox isn't on the same league as some of his his ex teammates, but calling him average? With regards to Guardian, I just feel he has bad luck with teams. Guardian would be a fitting, if not better (atleast in CS GO) replacement for markeloff; while fox would be a decent replacement too (although obviously not better than edward) Just random speculations anyway. I just feel it would be tragic for Navi to disband.

HLTV.org (other websites probably too) almost always uses a flag, which represents a bigger part of the team players. Virtus.pro had 2 ukrainian, 2 russian and 1 slovak player. In this case, you can't really decide which flag to use, so they've decided to go for Russian, because this team belongs to Russian organization (and also there are 2 russians on the team). In other case, for example, let's say VP organization would be from Austria with the same GO team. Then, i believe, HLTV.org & Cadred would use European flag instead of Austria, because there isn't a single player from that country. Also, it wouldn't be fair for other players, if the team would use Russian or Ukrainian flag to represent them.

This is the same as calling all Brazilian (or other nationalities) football players representing colors of Ukrainian clubs traitors. Even CS teams had mixed international rosters, fnatic, mouz, for example. If a team is able to perform on a highest level, if its play is attractive to watch, this team has absolutely all rights to exist and evolve no matter which nationalities the players are and which organization they're contracted with. The guys are making living by playing games and its up to them to decide what to choose, an attractive salary or loyalty to a team. The scene has developed from teams of several friends gathering together to play for fun to serious organizations and more or less constant paychecks. Thus, the scene has a background, at least economical one, to be considered as real sport (widely speaking). Speaking of name of the organization I'm not the one who likes it either but this is our country's trend which any foreigner will barely understand.

I neither want to say that this is good or bad. Of course, two teams splitting up to merge one team is actually a loss. But only if the remaining players go inactive. Otherwise they'll form a new team/get picked up. And then they'll play and their results will indicate if it is better or worse. Time will tell.

Gtr is sick but not number 1. Also NIP have lost to VP a lot more than they have beaten them when it counts and AdreN has played better than GTR. Gtr is not as good as he was at the start of this game and AdreN only plays with 100ping which sucks. Watch him be a beast now!!! Remember I said AdreN is on that level when this team kicks off!

Well Zeus is a tactic leader he doesnt need to play as good as Edward or something like that, when hes 1v1 he has to win it as a CL to give good mentality to the team but try it to be a clan leader its so hard, you need to analyze the whole game, make the right tactics, say to all players what they have to do where they have to be and than you need to make frags and pay attention on your own game too. Ceh9 is amazing player and hes on same lvl as all NaVi players, he has just his support team role, hes not main fragger so thats why he doesnt have much kills in team, for those who are navi fans they know how it is in NaVi + he showed vs nip and good teams good clutch skills. Starix played amazing vs Ninjas he did 1v4 every round when ninjas went to B site he fragged 1 at least. Edward and Marik are a part of navi so its kind off weird that theyre leaving NaVi, but theyre not irrecoverable. NaVi has got many choices how to create a good team again, i think they should get Kucher at Edwards position because Kucher is very good aimer + he could have a good motivation and start to train even harder and for mariks position you can pick up every sniper cuz marik wasnt so good at GO with awp, he was at normall skill level that have all PG AWP players so NaVi can pick up Fox or even GuardiaN would be gr8 choice cuz he was learning when he was playing with VP Russian language and hes a teammate of Kucher.
