VeryGames pull out of ESEA finals

VeryGames have announced that they have decided against attending ESEA 14's Global Finals next month.

The French team finished in second position during the regular season of the European league, thus earning a place at the global finals, which will take place from August 16th to 19th in Dallas, United States.

This has been, without a doubt, a very troublesome season, with some teams having already disband and others being unable to play after changing players when the rosters in the league were already locked.

VeryGames have now confirmed that they will not attending the LAN finals, citing the high cost of plane tickets during the summer as the reason for skipping the American tournament.

"First of all, we are deeply disappointed not to be able to defend our chances in the LAN finals for ESEA. The team was in good shape and we hoped to show a good performance. We also have great respect for the work around this competition which contributes greatly to the development of Counter-Strike in Europe and the USA.
Unfortunately for this edition, the final have been planned for the heart of summer vacation, and has resulted in doubling the price of airline tickets compared to the last season. For information purposes, the cost of travel exceeds $ 12,000 for our team. I alerted RegnaM, ESEA Community Manager form Europe, at the beginning of June so that the organization could anticipate this problem and proposes an alternative. Unfortunately, no solution has been found and we are now at the point where we cannot attend at all.
I hope with all my heart that the final will still take place in the best ways and that we will be able to work together to ensure that this situation does not happen again in the future."

"First of all, we are deeply disappointed not to be able to defend our chances in the LAN finals for ESEA," VG manager Jerome "NiaK" Sudries said.

"The team was in good shape and we hoped to show a good performance. We also have great respect for the work around this competition which contributes greatly to the development of Counter-Strike in Europe and the USA.

"Unfortunately for this edition, the final have been planned for the heart of summer vacation, and has resulted in doubling the price of airline tickets compared to the last season.

"I hope with all my heart that the final will still take place in the best ways and that we will be able to work together to ensure that this situation does not happen again in the future."

It is still unclear who will replace VeryGames, but there are not many candidates: outside the top 4, only Epsilon, ex-n!faculty (now known as Playing Ducks) and k1ck have active rosters.

Right now, rumours suggest that Ninjas in Pyjamas are the only European team who will fly to the United States, but there has not been any confirmation from league officials yet.

ESEA further state that VeryGames will most likely not be able to attend next season's league, as teams who cannot attend the LAN finals are not invited back for the following season.

The main reason for the high price is because it's in the summer, I presume that EU teams will be able to attend the events if they're not in the summer, just like the last esea.

There is a $39,500 prize money if they increase it a bit for example on $42000 and split it into $18 $14 $10k. More teams will decide to attend this event.

Sad, VG are in top shape! Does not send a good sign towards the other teams that one of the best teams in Europe can't affort the event. hopefully Europe will get 4 teams to represent them. Maybe ESEA should concider lowering the price pool and adding a traveling bonus that they give to each team attending...

I do think that they got the money, they just find it too expensive for a LAN. It is so sad that esea didn't move the date and i hope every other team will follow VG and do not attend. Lets see if they really wants to ban all 12 teams :D

This . yeah ofc VG got the money for the ESEA . But the prize is far too expensive despite it's Esea . Even if you are second you would earn back what you put on the table (hotel taxi food). We really do need major event with bigger cash prize or a major professional league like on LoL they got LCS NA & Eu & OGN (korea) and Tecent league (china ) + 1 taiwan malaysia . It's really professional league (they are paid for it by the league )

As a Canadian you must know that an elk in the woods isn't a really big threat to humans. If it was in a city, it would be. In this case, the elk in the woods could be assumed to be a semi-mediocre threat. We don't really know, we humans tend to assume things going to way as they have in the past.

I love how saucers feel that '1 pixel sixer' is some sort of insult? The game is dated looking, it came out in 2000. At the time it was one of the best looking games in its genre so what are you trying to insinuate? That people that enjoyed 1.6 didn't realize that it is not a graphically intense game? Well no shit it is more than 13 years old... Bravo. It was the game play that mattered, something that CSS did not enjoy. That being said I enjoy CS:GO now and I have moved on without issue. Astana Dragons will soon rule this game along with NiP and the only CSS team left mentioning will be VG.

I didn't want to offend 1.6, my whole point of this discussion with you, is that Astana will not pwn. They are just strong (not for me) on paper, and they have alot of CIS fans (yeah, I hate their yelling like 'navi top 1' etc. etc.) - that makes them overrated, and maybe they were good in 1.6, but not in GO. My honest opinion. PS - I'm not saucer, I never played sauce, just 1.6 before GO, and tbh I don't play GO now, just watching whats new.

Thats what happens when you try to put the NA and Euro scene together. Just wont happen.. This -> ESEA further state that VeryGames will most likely not be able to attend next season's league, as teams who cannot attend the LAN finals are not invited back for the following season. <- Is also BS

It's retarded that esea still holds their competitions in US when they know EU is clearly the best choice. Top Teams are all from europe with all do respect ofcourse to the US CS scene. + its hard for Ex-soviet union countries to get visa's to US in time. EU countries are cheaper and easier for everyone to travel to. The sad part is NiaK informed RegnaM in june and you'd think regnam would understand as an ex-vg player.

the point is to help grow the scene in the NA... besides Curse and Quantic, no team can make the trip to Europe. The euros can come here, make some money, visit a continent they rarely go to for events all while helping grow our scene. ESEA is a great event and a great idea, it's just they picked awful dates for the LAN. Should be end of August, beginning of September when peak season is over to be honest.

The american scene needs to grow for csgo to go further and develop. Yet its very costly for the best teams to travel and the margin of profit would go low.

Not sure why ESEA cant change the dates when the situation is like this, this will hurt their viewing numbers (which is the most important reason for organising a tourney) alot. Hope to see a statement on why their not changing dates.

Yeah thats prolly the reason, but pretty bad research on ESEAs behalf when half the teams cant afford to attend.

No, they won't. Originally, they've finished under top4, what means they haven't qualified for lan finals. And ESEA shouldn't kick them just because they have declined the invite as replacement team.

At least people will now understand why so few American/Canadian teams travel overseas. The cost are ridiculous and most of the time the first prize doens't even cover travel cost... :/

This was indeed expected, if ESEA organisation are dumb enough to not pay attention to gamer needs, this is what they deserverd.... Who will attend next european qualifier ? From those which team will be able to spend 12k euros to send their team there ? Beside NiP which organisation ( in Europe ) is able to spend so much money on a single tournament ? Stop this joke please. Or rename the tournament as American Final( south and north america ). Such a "me myself and i" american typical behaviour.

None of the teams will be present expect NiP. 2nd place = 4k€, average price from EU = 10k€;... Expect you are first, you loose money. And everyone know that NiP secure the 1st place. So : Ninjas In Pyjamas Team VeryGames Wont go Team-LDLC Wont go VirtusPRO No team Anexis eSports Wont go EpsilonRazer wont go nfaculty wont go ESC-ICY BOX Missing one player Natus Vincere Missing two player k1ck eSports Club CSGO Wont go fnatic No team Copenhagen Wolves Wont go okay.

that's not the point.. It's about competition. Did you see the euro teams attending ESEA LAN? It's only NiP.. and a bunch of NA teams. Plus you forget VG was the closest to beat NiP for the first 6 months of their domination. They were #2 in ESEA EU Invite this season til they dropped out. Please don't try to depict them as a bad team like some HLTV retard.

esea's rules are old and very rigid, they make it very difficult for invite teams to be able to make it. For instance, when dazed decided to quit csgo for cod and left the roster, his team team was #2 seed in NA invite (and still is) and his teammates had the opportunity to remake Fully Torqued with steel for the LAN. ESEA said no, you do not have enough roster changing spots. The Virtus Pro roster team on ESEA could have their leader change name to Astana Dragons and get the whole team in there for the LAN since they are #4 seed EU but nope, not enough roster changing spots. Truly idiotic

Yes, and it's clearly the American's fault that these teams can't afford to travel to the US. Stay biased you low life.

And whose decision was it set the LAN finals to the middle of Summer? Because any adult with a functioning brain knows that travelling in mid summer is expensive as fuck. Also it's not that they can't afford it, what's the point of travelling to a LAN where the expenses of the travel+accomodation are pretty close to the first prize? It's not worth the risk.

For about 6 straight years Australia paid this or more to send a team to Europe even though we knew they weren't a chance in hell at getting any money. Toughen up VG and take that risk for the 20 grand that you actually have a chance at winning!

I just checked the airfrance website, and the round-trip tickets were 1.25k € per person ( so I don't know where those 12k € came from). I think he exagerated the price.

Yes of course, I bought the tickets 1 day before the event and 1 day after it ended. So we have 6 persons for a total of 7560 for the airplane. I sincerely refuse to belive that the rest up to 12k, that's almos 4500 € will be spent with accomodation and meals...
