VG to meet fnatic in Mad Catz final

VeryGames defeated Copenhagen Wolves 2-0 (16-10 on de_dust2_se and 16-14 on de_mirage_ce) in the second semi-final of Mad Catz Invitational. They will be meeting fnatic at Gamescom next Tuesday to fight for the 3,500€ first place prize.

The second semi-final of Mad Catz Invitational took place tonight when the top seeded side of the tournament VeryGames met Copenhagen Wolves.

The match was a little delayed due to the CS:GO update being released just before the start time, so the players needed to roll back to the old version.

After everyone sorted that out, the action started on de_dust2_se with Cph Wolves on the attacking side. As it happens more often than not, Terrorists took the pistol round and that spurred the Danes on to a 7-0 lead.

Nathan "NBK" Schmitt stepped up in that moment of need and helped VeryGames get back into the game with 3 FAMAS kills followed by 4 AK47 kills. They made it 5 in a row before Wolves finally replied and the half eventually ended 9-6.

NBK top fragged on the first map with 31-15

After changing sides the French-Belgian team also won their T-side pistol and went on an 8-round winning streak, putting themselves up 14-9. Copenhagen Wolves managed to take their first round at that point, but then Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom scored 7 AK47 kills in the next two rounds to help his team clinch the map 16-10.

Moving on to de_mirage_ce, VeryGames continued their dominance by going up 4-0, before seeing that lead melt down to 4-3. In a game of streaks, both teams won four rounds in a row from that point and the score at the half stood 8-7 in favor of VG.

ScreaM had plenty of great shots throughout the match

By winning the second pistol round, Kévin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans' squad put themselves in a great position (teams that win both pistols win the match 77% of the time), going up 11-7.

However, it didn't turn out to be so easy as Copenhagen Wolves hung on by making the score 11-11 and then 12-12, but never getting into the lead. They even held their own when VG made it 15-12 as the match went into the 30th round, but the French squashed all hopes from the Danes by taking the last round in a flawless manner.

Great to see an encounter between 2 Counter-Strike powerhouses like fnatic and VG actually making it to the LAN final. But along with this tournament layout i kinda feel it would have been better off with a BO5.. A scenario with 2-0 to either team and most likly less than 60 rounds for a pretty long trip like this is a bit unworthy? well hope to see geGe and...... heffaN!

We would love to run a best of five grand final but unfortunately time constraints at the event prevents us from doing so.

aha.. (!) well, One could almost imagine it was a matter of some time restrictions or what not - fiting in a "slightly" hectic schedule. Anyways every tournie having CS: GO is very important for this small scene. Good job. Maybe B05 final some day. :_>

Well that's why I like him. You don't always have to be a fan of the best player. And sometimes he really shines like in source! :)
