fnatic have taken down NiP 21-16 in overtime on de_train_se to upset the world's number one team and top group A at DreamHack Bucharest.

fnatic had a flying start in the all Swedish match-up as they won the opening pistol round as terrorists and rode strong play by Jonatan "Devilwalk" Lundberg to an early lead.

NiP were bringing the game back at 3-5, but a save round win changed all the momentum and allowed fnatic to get a commanding lead halfway through the opening half.

That lead was cut quickly as NiP brought the game to 6-9, and then won the second half pistol round to tie the game at nine. The two sides kept trading punches, and eventually found themselves tied at 14-14.

NiP and their fans leave the group stage disappointed

Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund helped NiP score map point, but even his three kills in the final round couldn't stop fnatic from forcing the match into overtime as Jesper "jw" Wecksell won the deciding one-on-one with barely any health left.

In the beginning of overtime things looked great for NiP as they won the opening round as terrorists, but Andreas "MODDII" Fridh's team then put up a brick wall that was inpenetrable.

fnatic wund up taking four rounds in the opening half of overtime, and followed it up with two straight round wins as terrorists to clinch an impressive 21-16 win and top the first group.

yeah, usually the world's 5-8th best team is expected to beat the world's best, that's just how odds work.

match will be replayed from 2.1 fnatic. they shoulden.t have played 5 rounds overtime

I see Dosia, ANGE1, Edward, Zeus and NiP in that picture. Anyway, amazing play by devilwalk, always knew he's a great player. Not surprised by jw, but he played smart in that round vs GTR.

now schneider needs to step up as well to crack verygames (maybe the favorite for the no1 finish now) but i shouldnt count out nip (@dh summer they went 2nd in group too, right?)

Yeah, would be nice if all fnatic players would step up. Not sure about DH Summer but I guess every top team in group stage still saving their strats for playoffs.

Rematch between NiP and fnatic. It was a mistake during the overtime. Should've been played 2x3 rounds instead of 2x5 rounds. Rematch from second half of the overtime with the score being 2-1 in favour of fnatic. Keep in touch !:)

If OT was really close then I'd understand, but come on, fnatic obviously performed better. I'm just hoping they'll be able to beat NiP again. Would be such a disappointment if they couldn't after going so far

I know and i agree fnatic were better and deserved to win. But its impossible to question the fairness of the decision. If a rule is unclear or the dreamhack staff gave the wrong info to the players somehow, and they eco'd in a round they wouldnt otherwise, its fair to replay it even tho fnatic have nothing to do with the issue unfortunally

Yes, they would. Dont question dreamhack professionalism. And its not a matter of crying, its about a rule that made them eco on a T side in a overtime, which could (not very likely but still) possibly change the outcome of the game. I mean, its a bad thing this things happen, but you cant seriously question the fairness of it.

I'mnot. i meant nip not them. That'snot even online game. I can't understand why worlds best team doesnt know what fnatic knows. No matter what, they could restart the game instead of keep playing. Fnatic shouldnt pay for admins or nip's fault.

Yes, that much was obvious. But if NIP simply didn't read the rules, it's unfair to fnatic to replay it. I assume the admins fucked up and gave NIP the wrong information, but would like to see this confirmed.
