CS:GO update improves spectating

Valve have released another weekly update for CS:GO, continuing to focus on improving spectators' experience.

After adding the WATCH menu a couple of weeks ago, Valve are still not done updating the spectators' side of things, as today's version includes several interesting changes.

The main update is that the recoil should from now on be visible in GOTV. Another new feature is automatic display of every player's money status and statistics during freeze time.

Additionally, a ROAMING mode was added which allows quick change to a predefined 3rd person camera in the vicinity of the selected player.

Freeze time display and the new ROAMING mode

As far as gameplay goes, the only notable change is the addition of the eye shielding animation to players blinded by flashbangs.

Here is the official list of changes:

[GAMEPLAY]

- Added eye shielding animation to players blinded by flashbangs.
- Fixed respawning in Deathmatch sometimes choosing a spawn point visible to players when more ideal positions were available.
- Fixed a bug in Deathmatch that could create weapons on the ground if a player spammed his "buy" key immediately upon respawn.

[SPECTATING]

- Added changeable, preset camera positions for all shipped maps that are activated by selecting a player with SHIFT + 0-9 while spectating. (see https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/CSGO:_Spectator_Tools for more info)
- Target players now glow white when viewing from a spectator camera in ROAMING mode.
- When spectating in ROAMING mode, we now draw a subtle Aiming Vector Line that shows each player’s aiming direction.- Dropped C4 now glows for spectators (yellow = dropped, flashing red = planted, green = defused).
- Added more UI during freeze time to display player money, spent money that round, and kills/assists/deaths.
- Improved armor icons in spectator panels.- Fixed recoil not being applied in GOTV and replays.
- Fixed UI weapon image sometimes being blank in GOTV.
- StatTrak now displays correct number of kills in GOTV and replays.
- Reenabled the spec_goto command and fixed it not working properly if called from a key bind.
- Moved the autodirector toggle key from “+speed” to “radio3” (from SHIFT key to the C key by default).
- Streams tab now includes 6 live streams.

[MISC]

- Scope lines now blur out completely to better match the weapon's current inaccuracy.
- Improved Fiveseven viewmodel animation
- Improved Tec-9 viewmodel animation   

The first chance to see the effects of these viewer-oriented changes will be this weekend's RaidCall EMS One Fall 2013 Finals.

they should make some corrections in movement and recoil when people are spamming ADADADA, also they should do a better anti cheat, i know people that are cheating every day, every minute and every second for FEW years and VAC didnt catch anything.... but i dont think it will ever happen, so we can just spam on forums and give our opinions to different people.....

VAC had a massive ban wave just last year, catching out thousands of people who used organner ring0 cheats. it is also constantly banning hundreds of cheaters, and overwatch helps a lot too. just because you aren't made constantly aware of VAC's rate of success doesn't mean it isn't doing anything.

People commentating matches through spec, often show scoreboard and what people buy in the freezetime. While it was difficult to show it all before, this will make them able to give a quick review of what to expect in the round, making the explaining part better afterwards of what is going to happen/happening at the time. That is just my thoughts atleast.

20/60 isn't a terrible argument. You really get penalized hard if you try to spray someone through a wall or spray randomly somewhere. Silencer allows your tracers to not be spotted through smoke, but it is tough to waste more than 10-15 bullets spamming. I agree that 30 bullets is way too much for this colt though. Game would be ridic with 30 bullets on the headshot machine.

Ofc you're gonna get penalized, the gun only costs 2900$, has a lot less recoil than the m4a4, has a silencer which allows you to kill one or a few opponents without getting spotted, and has no tracers which is very usefull for smoke sprays. If it had 30 or even 25 bullets, nobody would take the m4a4 anymore. In valve's mind, we have to make a tough choice on which m4 we're gonna use. And they managed to make it pretty hard since the division of m4a4/m4a1-s looks pretty balanced in the games that i've seen so far

What they mean is that before it looked like it was dead center, now they fixed it so if you still have a movement value you will see you inaccuracy status by the blurines of the lines. Not so good for really good players who learn that by hours of practice, but good for all amateurs who got frustrated with it.

Yes! Exactly what we asked for! Increase AWP blur and introduce eye-shielding animation! Like, what the hell? All this banter about how tweaking things such as the movement more towards how it used to be would alter the gameplay too tremendously, and then they go ahead and introduce a feature that has never been part of CS without giving a single explanation as to why. Guess what, here's why: Just like auto-crouching, it's another visual pointer intended to make the game more noob-friendly and take away freedom from the players. I also wouldn't be surprised if this is implemented badly. As in, how does the animation look like when they shoot? For how long does the animation last? At which degree of being flashed does it kick in? What about hitboxes? Does this mean that on top of lag compensation issues with crouching, now there are also arms in front of the face denying headshots? I bet if the animation doesn't go well with shooting, what they will do to "fix" it is not allowing you to shoot while eye-shielding... I hope the complete fade of the AWP scope means that we will see an accuracy increase for quick and no-scoping, otherwise it just seems pathetic how much the AWP has been nerfed and designed away from what people have been suggesting. Also, now that they have shown to be interested in working on the gun animations, I hope they give the M4A1 a different draw/reload animation and sounds than the M4A4, fill in the USP's dead pixels and generally polish them (the deagle flips through your fingers when you draw it - just an indicator of how some of the weapon animations are even worse than they have been in 1.6). With the introduction of recoil kickback into GOTV, I hope they will look at viewpoint kickback interpolation.

They haven't yet. I was talking about maybe we will see that in the future. What they wanted to accomplish with this is that the scope gives players a better idea of how accurate the weapon is and how long it takes for it to get accurate again after moving/firing/scoping. They could have done that without blurring the scope to a degree where it is completely faded though. I'd prefer what Rattlesnk has also suggested, namely that the scope only kicks in as soon as the weapon is accurate and that there is no blurr whatsoever, since the accuracy while moving when scoped in isn't a problem, the problem is the accuracy when moving and then scoping in. It takes way too long for the AWP to get accurate when scoping in after moving, quick-scoping while standing still is not as accurate as it should be, no-scoping isn't accurate at all and even a double-zoomed AWP has a ridiculous spread that can make you miss shots where you are perfectly on your target.

Have to agree with you. I feel that the small delay in accuracy after moving was completely wrong, the spread (even while zoomed) is an actual joke and rather than fix that they've gone and made it worse by adding the blur. I hope there is an uproar and a petition, I fear that there won't be after reading comments on here and Reddit :( Most people are lauding Valve with credit for the AWP changes, as if systematically removing everything positive about one of the key weapons in CS:GO (in terms of, both, playing and spectating)is a step forward. Let's see how this goes with the major tournaments that are upcoming.

Yeah, the real problem with the AWP in GO is its inaccuracy. Changing the visual feedback to more accurately show how terribly off the weapon is doesn't exactly help. Especially not when the visual hint leaves you without a crosshair. The gun needs to be more accurate, the "accuracy load-up" upon zooming has to be shortened and the scope should only kick in when the weapon is ready to shoot accurately. I don't care about blurring and bobbing, as long as it doesn't fade out the crosshair completely I guess it doesn't make a difference. Of course, the question "why have it in the first place?" remains, but hey, that's GO. Also, I'd suggest staying away from reddit when you want actual debate and discussion. The nature of its "vote" system cancels out everything that is great about having people talk about stuff on the internet.

Could you explain what you said about Reddit and it's vote system? I'm not internet savvy unfortunately and Reddit seemed to be a natural progression away from HLTV (full of garbage/mindless drivel, extremely difficult to find legible English nevermind a valid response or debate, and the irony of the head honcho not actually touching CS:GO) and Cadred (hugely inactive userbase, a typical "LAD" ethos in terms of the atmosphere, and almost the same problem with the head honcho). Just stumbled onto Reddit and found helpful people, advice on changing sound settings, things to change for better visibility, constant updates in the content - pretty much polar opposites of the negatives from all the other CS:GO sites. I guess there will be a bad side? I might just be too new to see it. I've gone off at a complete tangent haha; is there any other good CS:GO sites that you could recommend?

I'm not saying HLTV is necessarily a better place to go for discussion - I do agree that the people browsing reddit are generally more willing to read, process and take part in lengthy discussions. But the vote system takes away from internet discussions the very thing that makes them unique. In "real life", words spoken are simply lost irretrievably, in the written press, only selected people get to express themselves, but if somebody expresses an opinion or argues facts on the internet, the post containing them simply is there, it is unavoidable and holds the same value as any other post. The only thing that determines its value and relevance in the context of a topic is somebody replying to it and directly entering an argument about the things mentioned. It is then possible for everyone to read, understand and come to their own conclusions and if deemed necessary add them to the matter of debate. But if somebody for example simply replies with "your opinion is bad, fuck you", the value of the post he has been replying to is not affected and the people reading the reply can come to the conclusion that the person replying has no argumentative ground for his opinion. I. e. the discussion or rather its value on platforms like this is based solely on reason, facts and argumentation. Things posted stay true until logically proven otherwise. With votes on the other hand, the value and relevance of certain posts is systematically determined prior to a conclusive discussion - posts end up at the bottom of the thread or are blanked out, people don't bother reading them, let alone replying to them with actual arguments; downvotes are simply regarded as rendering a statement useless, even though a downvote is nothing else than an empty "your opinion is bad, fuck you". People don't even bother posting statements that they know are likely to get downvoted. So you can be certain a wide variety of things there possibly are to say about a topic never come up. Threads are voted for as well, leaving topics completely untouched because nobody really bothers dealing with unpopular threads nobody else will reply to anyways. So, instead of having a discussion that is comprehensibly based solely on constructive debate and its value on actual arguments, it is based on arbitrariness in the sense of mouse clicks of people without actual input. Not even talking about the deletion behaviour of mods and admins. As for other sites, the steam forums are actually not a bad place to discuss, although it is not rare for discussions to simply drown in oblivion. As for advice on settings and general CS tips, well, the internet is full of them. These things have been out there for more than 10 years, googling will provide you with most answers you are looking for. The HLTV archives are full of useful stuff as well, and you can always open a thread with specific questions and you will get an answer on here. And what CS content are you really eager to have updated constantly? Everything important will sooner or later pop up as a news post on here and the forum is full of scene news even before they are official. I'm not saying the GO subreddit isn't a good place to check for content or news, I'm just saying the overall value of debate on there is questionable and I'd be cautious to forge an opinion solely based on things mentioned over there, let alone on their up- or downvotes.

Well.. I've played many years with monolith scope in 1.6 and didn't worried about "Hmm, maybe should I wait 0.1 second before shooting to make it accurate as maximal?" By the way AWP in 1.6 is WAY more inaccurate w/o scope or in moving. I bet I'm not alone with that.

Before: Aim, stop and wait for the awp to be accurate, shoot Now: Stop, so you can see where you are aiming, wait for the awp to be accurte (cuz lol it's still inaccurate when the scope is visible), shoot And then, for example, strafe peeking (even when CROUCHING, when the awp is accurate), is much harder = something about the gun has changed.

I can understand how Volvo's politic works: they won't change anything crucial like movement till DHW13. But they can do these things at least: -Fix retarded deagle; -Re-code "xhairstyle 3" to work how it has to be(1.6-style) instead of work the same as "weapon_debug_spread_show 2"; -Make M4A1-S and USP-S "default" items(do not show them in inventory if "Hide default items" is checked); -Rare bug: sometimes you "are not buying" helmet+armor but you got -$1000 and armor is 0(common thing if you're buying it through bind "" "buy vesthelm"); -Nerf p90's accuracy in moving; -Make option to be able to change scope - with bobbing or w/o(there are options for crouching and jumping - "hold" and "toggle" so why not?) -Force flashbangs to not switching to lastinv if there is one more FB(for throwing 2 in a row like it is in 1.6). Btw: I really like new tec-9's animation. Now it goes back instead of jumping up. Seems great as for me.

My opinion about this update: [GAMEPLAY] - Added eye shielding animation to players blinded by flashbangs. Nice addition for new players, but now it's easier to rush enemy after flash because we will know when he is full flashed and when only half (full flashed = 3rd person animation, half flashed = no 3rd person animation), and animation is underdeveloped because we have only 1 animation for all weapons and it's bad, because sometimes player model hand goes through the gun and it looks silly, the same when we are shooting with in example negev, recoil is still the same but player model is shooting only with one hand! - Fixed respawning in Deathmatch sometimes choosing a spawn point visible to players when more ideal positions were available. Good. - Fixed a bug in Deathmatch that could create weapons on the ground if a player spammed his "buy" key immediately upon respawn. Good. [SPECTATING] - Added changeable, preset camera positions for all shipped maps that are activated by selecting a player with SHIFT + 0-9 while spectating. (see developer.valvesoftware.com/...pectator_.. for more info) Great for moviemakers and for streamers to show some cool replays. - Target players now glow white when viewing from a spectator camera in ROAMING mode. Good, now we know which one we are watching. - When spectating in ROAMING mode, we now draw a subtle Aiming Vector Line that shows each player’s aiming direction. Oh my god, I said the game is doomed gameplay-wise, the development isn't going anywhere. Did I ever say that it's dead? The scene is not the biggest for sure, you know, some people start to accept bad things with time and some don't. Haha, does anyone know why CS became big, not even the big Gooseman knows why CS became massive, and what made the game so good. Perhaps because there is a form of nostalgia that asociates itself with the game, perhaps because for most of us, it was the first game we fellin love with. But was 1.0 to 1.6 perfect, no, they weren't and many old school players agreed that 1.5 was actually better than 1.6. At the end of the day, Valve are slowly tweaking the game and whilst you may not enjoy the updates they have been tweaking the gameplay every so often, movement was recently tweaked was it not. In just over a year they have been updating more frequently and doing some solid updates. The last couple have been aimed at the spectating aspect with good reason, there is a big tournament coming up. Your opinion is valid but calling Valve "clueless" is a little silly considering their games have been best sellers, they have won numerous awards and they are one of the worlds leading companies in this industry. I'd dare you to do better!
