Clan-Mystik over VG to win ESWC

Clan-Mystik have completed their fairy tale by defeating VeryGames in the grand final of ESWC 2013 with a 2-0 score (16-11 on de_inferno & 16-12 on de_mirage) to win $12,500.

With $12,500 on the line, the all-French grand final of ESWC 2013 featured the surprise of the tournament Clan-Mystik and the heavily favored VeryGames.

All seats were filled in front of the main stage despite the early hour, and the action started without much delay. The first map was Clan-Mystik's pick de_inferno, on which they have been a perfect three for three in this tournament.

Getting to pick the side as well, Mystik took advantage and went ahead early 4-0 after winning the pistol and the early buy.

Clan-Mystik started great on de_inferno

Even though VG got on the scoreboard then, their economy was immediately reset at 5-1, with Hovik "KQLY" Tovmassian already sitting on 11 kills.

Michael "HaRts" Zanatta's squad had all the money control they wanted after resetting VeryGames' economy once again after 7-2, and they won another key round 2-on-2 situation for 9-2.

After another eco, the EMS One champions finally found a way to break the defense and they clinched the last 3 rounds of the half for a 10-5 result.

Jeremy "ioRek" Vuillermet's 1-on-3 in the second pistol round brought the momentum back to Clan-Mystik, but VeryGames quickly reversed the fortunes by winning the following eco round for 11-6.

The first buy round came down to the wire, and it was Fabien "KIOSHIMA" Fiey who had the most composure to win a 1vs1 and put his team ahead 12-7.

Nevertheless, VeryGames were not done yet and Richard "shox" Papillon and Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux won a 2-on-3 retake in the B site to start a run for their team.

They edged nearer round by round, but at 12-11 Clan-Mystik put a stop to it and won 2 in a row, forcing VeryGames to go on an eco which led to 15-11.

The last round once again saw Fiey pull of some heroics as he killed the last two opponents in a 2-on-2 situation despite having single digit HP, resulting in a 16-11 de_inferno win.

The second map, de_mirage, was VeryGames' selection and they chose to start on the CT side. It all the started looking easy for them as they went up 7-0 before Zanatta finally won a 1vs1 for his team to get on the scoreboard. VG continued dealing with the attacks easily, and they finished the half with a 12-3 lead following some timely round wins that reset their opponents' economy.

KIOSHIMA was a key player in the final

Clan-Mystik didn't seem to have much to offer on this map, but a storming pistol round by Fiey who recorded 3 headshots brought their faith back and they began their own CT-side run.

The momentum was fully on Mystik's side after winning the first buy as well, and they kept denying VG's buy rounds until 12-10 when Kevin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans decided to use an eco round as a timeout.

That didn't help VeryGames though, as the score was evened at 12-12, and they still had no solution how to breakthrough to either bombsite.

Everything went right for Mystik now and they flew away to match point at 15-12 with no troubles. The next and what turned out to be the last round came down to the wire, but Zanatta took out both opponents in a 2-on-2, making the final score 16-12 and queing the celebrations on the stage as ESWC found its new champions.

Yeah good to see them do so well, this is hopefully an indication for the other frnch teams bot to give up if they're getting beaten by their countries top2 teams, because that's not a shame against these 2 I especially hope to see the 1.6 Sixer back in GO sometime, raping topteams singlehandedly

well VG always struggle vs teams from France, WGG or Mystik, so yeah the result isnt a suprise at all, but on paper clearly VG had the upper hand.yupp SIXER was a beast back in the days, I would love to see mSx in go too, if he still has it what it takes. :P

It's still boring to watch due to game physics. What makes the game enjoyable is the commentating and important matches with a lot of money on the line

Actually it's not random. NiP proved it. And today we've seen that CM teamplay (especially), aim and game feeling were better than VG. There weren't some random spray headshots or something, they were just better and it was evident. It's all thanks to players who improved a lot.

When NiP dominated VG 1 year ago then now beat their ASS 3 tournaments in a row, so it's random? I just happened that CM ALMOST know's every single game style of VG even though they got new strategy. But the positioning, etc, CM knows it already as they play/team up with VG since CSS ERA. If AD play in finals vs VG, i can say VG will be a champion. all in all, good to see new teams improving. Hope next time, it's from US of A ;)

"But the positioning CM knows it already as they play/team up with VG since CSS ERA" What? Most Clan Mystik guys were CS1.6 players. Also.. The guy who you replied to was reffering to Clan Mystik and VG, not NiP and VG.

"But the positioning CM knows it already as they play/team up with VG since CSS ERA" I mean CM players knows about the VG players angle positioning. Yes most of them from 1.6 BUT, apEX played A LOT vs VG since CSS ERA and also played under team VG so he knows TOO MUCH about VG players.

it means CM is kinda good team, cuz at least harts was good IGL on cs16, and iorek was rly good fragger. Cant say nothing about kioshima, cuz i had seen just a few cs16 games with him at the end of cs16 era. But i read some maj3r's posts that's he will be brilliant player later oO

Damn, son, you've got some issues. Matches between CM and VG have always been close. Winning has always been a matter of a daily form, nothing random about that.

True! However when they won with emuLate in front of NoA/mTw in 2007, it was on American ground, so not even "home field" advantage. That was even more sick imo :D

As I said on the forum, I am curious if Mystik would have won if they went up against NiP in the semi finals. It seems to me like VG learned how to counter NiP, and Mystik learned how to counter VG. All credit to them though they did very well this tournament and good job winning ESWC :)

Don't get the point, there are some teams who are weaker to domestic teams. Also there are teams who know how to counter other teams (in terms of strategies etc), AD and VG both were brought up to counter NiP, but CM knew how to counter VG because they are their domestic rival. So it's a sort of triangle :P

i get what you are saying, but CM were pretty good from the start in matches against vg. but cm won agaisnt ad and vg, 2 teams who nip can't beat anymore. would be interesting to see nip vs cm, yea, and cm might even lose, but atm they won agaisnt two of nip's nightmares last lans.

That is why I said "I am curious what would have happened if CM went up against NiP in the semi finals" because CM might not know how to counter NiP like AD and VG did.

Tbh i feel exacly what you are talking about, i really (really) love the fact that HaRts is in a winning team right now, such a long distance run. But i think he know & learn VG play because of that 'domestical rivality' like we have seen in the past with Na'Vi when they were the best & team in Ukraine on 1.6. Again WP HaRts & Co, you really deserv that win, i'm really happy to see you at the top.

Indeed, in the past. But VG and AD, and apparently ChW and probably CM caught up. Now NiP is not the best, even though they beat them for a year straight. Put it like this, if I beat you up every friday for a year, and then you go lift weights for two months and you kick my ass. Who is the better fighter at the end?

First, you can't rate a team based on how they perform against ONE team. Second, past perfomances don't contribute to your ranking as much as your current performances. It's the goal of a ranking up to date.

Didn't want it? The fact that you're competing for a major, trying to secure your #1 spot in the world and that the winner gets almost twice the amount of pricemoney should really get you to try. Ex6 fucking cried on the stage, ofcourse they wanted it!

You must not have seen the interview with Ex6TenZ and HaRts on VaKarM then, because Ex6 said that, even though they won the French Finals, the issue will not be the same now, because it's the final of a World Championship. He said, he will be thinking all the time about that, he will be thinking about that the night before sleeping, and he will be dreaming about that while sleeping. So he definitely wanted that win.

CM had a very good teamplay. I really loved how they always went agressive only when they were sure that they will be in the position faster than VG, especialy on inferno. And also the flash support while peeking, almost every time one of the players flashed, the other one peeked and got the kill or more. I think that this is the problem of NiP in Xv1 situations, they are overconfident and give that player a chance to pick them one by one, whereas CM stayed hidden until the very last moment. They completely denied ScreaM, because he just had no room to use his insane aim. But mirage was terrible to be honest, this map is just bad in this version.

I really doubt that CM will ever again be able to put up such fights... Nothing to take away from them and Im happy they won vs VG, but in reality AD and VG after losing to them - they both did not expect such performance of them and couldnt really prepare for them as in most situations CM just plaid random based on the calls and not on the teamplay which in a long term will not help as after yesterdays's and today's losses AD and VG will go over all of those demos and know exactly what went wrong, so its gonna be hard for CM to repeat such a success and it most likely wont happen again, but today they and yesterday they really had it, they had their game.... CM = Nostalgie!

It is like saying that people from Andorra loves CS:GO because Swedish people loves CS:GO. Major crap as well. I am not mad, I couldn't care less, all I am saying is that they won't win more tournaments and ESWC is their one time shine.

People, well, idiots to be more accurate, are already acting like they are new top 1, which, in a sense of ESWC results they are, but they are not the best team out there until they win next at least few tournaments. They didn't have the chance to fight against NiP, fnatic, CPH or other top teams, so placing them as a top1 is at least very daring.

I am not saying you shouldn't take them seriously. For all I care take them as a major badasses and heavy candidates for top spot everytime. The next tournament is DHW I suppose and I am pretty convinced they won't win it.

How can you say that? I agree in terms of not being the best team in the world, but didn't they just prove the ability to play at a very high level? In my book they are considered a top5 team. That is NOT nothing. You say it like you have to be the number one to have success. That is very ignorant. And you are. Eating your words when Mystik actually did damage. Wtf is with the pride Japan? Doesn't fit you, get down from there.

That doens't make it true. Standin your on beliefs? More like having a severe case of mouth diarrhea. Why do you HAVE to win the next event in order to prove something? They haven't got shit to prove but a top5-6 spot. They came from the bottom of the scene, and did fairly good online as well. I'm curious why are so eager to bash them down? SO WHAT if they can't callenge NiP or VeryGames on a daily bases. They have achieved great things with just reaching top5. How can you not welcome another top team? This is good for the scene, but why would you care. Japan doesn't have a scene. But that doesn't give you the right to come and write shitty comments based on zero argumentation on ours. I wouldn't call it pride, just plain ignorance.

You already called it a pride, so yeah... stick to something already. Anyway, I am going to repeat it now, because you obviously did not read the comment I suggested. It is not about not welcoming another top team. By all means, hop on to the party, be my guest. It is about idiots, who are claiming CM to be the number one world team, which they are only based on the ESWC results, but not based on a fair competition. By this I don't mean something was done unfair, but they haven't faced the other top teams apart from VG and AD. When you do, and when you beat them, we can talk about being the number one. If you don't - well, something is odd, isn't it? If you are happy with being top 5-6, fine with me, why should I care? I don't know what these guys (CM) are after, if it's enough, it's enough. And why do you keep on poking to Japan? Sure, we don't have CS:GO scene, so that means I shouldn't care how the world scene looks like? Are you retarded? Seriously? Wake up dude. Maybe show your flag, or are you a filthy hobo?

You call them spot stealer ( qualified from french spot) Then harts and iorek were world champion in 2007 and were part of one of the best team in the world during severals years, the other players always perfoms, they did great at dh valencia ( beating ur lovely US) and they perfom online too and you still bashing them wake up man you are out of the business right now

They stole a spot in a way that made one of the 1/4 matches very unattractive to watch compared to other matches. Were the groups seeded differently, we might get to see more intersting quarter final matches. I suppose you didn't understand how my statement was meant, or you are now twisting it to your favor. I also love how you are now raising them like some sort of legends and best team of all times because they won WCG 6 years ago and now ESWC. That's really badass. Nothing quite compared to the domination which other teams shown over the years, though. My humble guess is, you didn't even imagine them passing semi-finals and now you are acting like it was all so expected and crystal clear. It was a major upset, nobody predicted it, not even you. So at least admit this. I am also not bashing them, I am just saying I don't see them winning another tournament anytime soon. That's it. If you count it as bashing, be my guest. I also don't like US, no idea where did that came from. But well, whatever floats your boat :)

I'm gonna remember you'r name after they will do a great performance at dh ( i don't say they gonna win ) you will maybe shut you'r mouth

Yay, you can't come up with anything, so we are now just calling each other names. How bright and wise from you. Anyway, coL vs. NiP wasn't really match I voted to watch, I actually wanted to see VG vs. fnatic. In the poll, that Anders posted here before the 1/4 finals, majority of people wanted to watch coL vs. NiP, 2nd choice was VG vs fnatic, 3rd were CPH vs AD, and - big surprise - CM vs fm.Toxic were the least exciting match in the eyes of the public. So it's not just me, obviously. Alrighty, remember my name and let me know after DH how it went. Just remember - all I am saying the whole time is, that they won't win DH. Not anything else. So bear that in mind, pumpkin.

I never said I didn't care because obviously I do, or else I wouldn't have replied to you. My problem is; I see all these people speak in a hostile , degrading and almost ironic tone, like this was not a serious matter - the scene that is. I see people contributing in a negative way on this forum all day long, when in fact we are a majority that REALLY cares about the further development. When you state your opinion like that, it makes me mad, because you strike me as a person whom can always find something negative to say: then they steal a spot, then they got lucky, then they didn't deserve it being a one hit wonder, and there are hundreds like you. It is cancer to this scene. This upsetting result is in fact the best thing that could ever happen. I know 80% wanted NiP in the finals, but the funny thing is, when they were winning everything, 80% would love to see someone else in the finals. The trolls, the haters, the kids who meassure everything by irational criterias. How will anyone ever take 'us' seriously? It is completely fine that you have another opinion, but since you are really good at english, at least present it in a constructive and debateable way. Trust me dude, everyone can bash someone down, but it is an art to be the opposition and state valid points through argumentation and a proper tone.

I will reply to your last comment here, since the reply boxes are getting far too thin to read and reply in a comfortable fashion. I completely agree with you about the state in which CS community is. It is filled with mindblowing amount of idiots, which is certainly nothing short of a cancer to the scene. On the other hand, I don't think my comment was quite on par with all the hateful "saucers wronk, jw best" topics or whatever these kids are up to lately. I would however like to clarify some of the things you probably misunderstood. Spot stealing: That was meant not in a way they steal a spot to attend ESWC itself. It was meant as a rather unfortunate group seeding, which basically granted CM free tour to semi finals, since they only had to face fm.Toxic, which was arguably the weakest link in a 1/4 finals chain. Were they to face f.e. CPH or fnatic from the beginning, their streak could end right there. I never said they got lucky or they didn't deserve the win. I actually cheered for them a little, since I am not a huge fan of VG myself (as they are constantly beating fnatic and CPH, so yeah, not my favourite team :) ). CM being a one hit wonder is actually something I believe in. As I said earlier in this thread - I don't see them winning DH. That's my opinion, I am afraid you will have to deal with it. I also wanted to see CPH reaching the finals and I really wished for CPH vs fnatic match, naive as it may be. And I am all for new teams to the scene and new teams to compete for number one spot. I just don't think CM is a team that will reach finals regularly. This opinion of mine might as well change if they actually prove me wrong, which is up to them, really.

Even tho apEX has the worst k/d of the team here, I still think he was a big reason why they won all these matches, he spends so much time looking at demos from other teams that he knows exactly how to counter strat them, and of course the whole team got great aim, very smart and wp.

I didn't mean just going into this game. I meant no one would have expected it before start of ESWC. Of course they have beaten VG on LAN before, so this match itself is not a surprise.

scream fucked up, if he had of played better this would have went differently. Wonder if their was any mindgames being played by mystik before the game. Or maybe VG and mystik have had a few heated games in various qualifiers before this? edit: whos the caller on mystik?

I REALLY think NiP needs to replace Fiffy with Deplpan. They have been 4v5'ing everyone for the past 1 year. But now others have caught up and this no longer seems possible. I just hope they realize this sooner than later.

It's so fun to see VG loose only because Scream couldn't carry that game. VG is like a air balloon and scream is the fire. Without the fire from scream VG will fall hard.
