Portuguese Win Turned Into Forfeit

An exciting and close match between Portugal and Czech Republic had a sad ending. Portuguese player luna used silent run which is against the rules of ClanBase NationsCup.

The match was played as BO3 at train, dust2, and inferno. Czech Republic came best from start by winning the first map 16-13 but then Portugal responded. At dust2, the Portuguese national team claimed a 16-9 victory, and followed up at inferno by winning 16-14.

Shortly after the match, it was revealed that luna from Portugal had used silent run multiple times. That's strictly forbidden and against the following rule:

Tapping duck in order to quieten your footsteps' sound significantly (=silent run aka russian jumps) is considered to be bug abuse and results in a forfeit loss.

Therefore, ClanBase has taken the consequences of luna's act and forfeited Portugal's win which means that Czech Republic proceeds in the tournament. After the news about the forfeit had come to their ear, Czech Republic has offered to replay the match. The ClanBase admins didn't acknowledge the proposal, though.

Portugal's team captain, Helder "coachi" Sancho said following on behalf of their early exit from NationsCup:

The rule is ridiculous. We all know all the best players in the world use it, and I don t need to say names, you all know. Why some people that know nothing about counter-strike made such a rule? You are forbidding an ability. So you should forbid bunny-jumps too, you run faster with that... It just doesn’t make any sense. We won the game playing in worse conditions and they just take away our victory, because they have the power.

It is so frustrating to win a match and a good match and in the end someone take us the victory. That is why esports have no credibility; u never saw a football team losing a game by forfeit it is just stupid. The admin's of ClanBase were very arrogant talking to me, even in the small issues, it is really sad those kind of people are leading tournaments. What can i do ? Portugal is just a small country.

With the win against Portugal, Czech Republic will proceed to group A, where following teams await:

Bulgaria
Ukraine
Estonia
Spain

kode5 holland = silent walk was forbidden in rules at the event we heard from the admins , ye siletn run is allowed. we started to talk with other teams and rumors went sk made this sure this rule changed , lets see if the big game countries use it and what the penaltys will be imo russian walk isnt a bug as long as you dont use it on scroll

i think when a team join in a tournament, they has to accept the rules to play. so if silent run is forbidden, Portugal break this rule, and should be penalized. but i think the intelligent decision is reply the match.

well we all know that russian is something that we often use without realizing that we are really using it well if it's in the rules, nothing to say. what we all are trying to say is that EVERYONE around the world uses it, and sometimes is simply easier to apply that rule to Portugal or Italy ( ly italy but cs is not for you =D ) than to a big powerhouse... almost all cs portuguese community stopped to watch this match, and we simply got excited to this opportunity that we finally capitalized..then this happens..we got frustrated =X PS: i want reply from asgharak eheheheheh

CB reputation was always on the mud. With this is even more. I make an appeal to all Portuguese fans to watch all games from CB NATIONS CUP, and if other player from another nation uses duckjump or other not-allowed bug, lets fall upon CB organization and fuck even worse their very very very small credibility. Luna got clear advantage because of his silent run, which no one else used as it's forbidden, in many rounds. It might not have been the reason for Portugal's victory (well played, it's sad it had to end up like this) but it certainly gave an unfair advantage. This rule about silent run was clearly stated in the rules reminder post in cup's page and that the result for breaking the rule is forfeit. Every captain was told to read that news post very carefully (of course captains should read all the rules carefully but this news item had some rules wanted to make sure everyone knows 100%). Czech indeed offered a rematch but we can't do exactly the opposite our own rules say just because Czech is demanding it instead of forfeit + Team Portugal didn't seem to be too keen on playing a rematch if silent run remains forbidden judging from coachi's email to the cup supervisors. Here are some reasons why silent run is forbidden in CB. First of all, this is an online cup so we don't have a realiable way to check if silent run is done by a script or manually. I know most pros can do it really well with duck binded to keyboard. Since we can't see a big difference in manual silent run and a silent run script, someone could just easily bind silent run to w and say that he is doing it just with skill. In ESWC 2008 for example, silent run is allowed only manually when duck isn't binded to scroll, otherwise it's forbidden. The difference is that eswc is a lan tournament so they can check everyone's configs easily. The other reason why silent run isn't allowed even manually is that it's clearly bug abuse. Tbh I don't see why any serious league would allow it. It is a bug since I doubt cs's creators intended that you could run without making any sound by tapping duck (cs tries to be semirealistic). Since it gives you an unfair advantage, it becomes bug abuse. Doing bunny hopping manually and to get an advantage because of it requires a lot of training and skill, the case isn't this with silent run. Allowing silent run would be almost the same as allowing some other bug abuses like silent plant and skywalking. You need a little bit of "skill and knowledge" to make a silent plant since sometimes it might not go silent even if you tried. The only difference is that some other leagues have forbidden those bug abuses aswell. We will not stop giving a punishment from clear bug abuse just because some other leagues don't punish for it. Players, and even stuff, not knowing about the rules of the competition they are participating in shows my intelligence? Well, I disagree, it shows that more than caring about what they do they think 'We play and nothing else matters'. If players do not know, the staff should tell them, "hey guys, rules do not allow duckjumping". If there is something wrong with a rule the best way is indeed not breaking it and later on state it is ridiculous. I cheated, oh well, the rule of not cheating is ridiculous to make it more clearly (and no, I am not saying they cheated in case your intelligence thinks so it is just a clearer example). Oscar used it? Well, guys from the portuguese staff do something. That is the way things work and if CB does not attend it I would agree that the treatment is unfair. Man, i agree with you, that Portugal had worse conditions / worse ping. U have good and skilled team. It must be hard for u and ur players. I like Portugal, know some portugese ppl in Czech rep. The link u posted, thats not duck jump! Google or youtube it, what means duck jump / begrip or smth like this. In better czech&svk leagues begrip is forbidden, so players know, that they cant do it. Thats why they posted protest (there were many contumacys in czech leagues because of begrip). Our country was for rematch, but thats not in CB rules, so the only one solution was contumacy. Read #85. Take it, get over it and hope, that next year u ll be in CB cup. gl

The avis I saw about czech didn't have any silent run in them + we didn't get email from Portugal's captain where and when Czech would have used silent run. Now I think the last video, shows rly what we are dealing with. Every nations do it. So almost a week after the games, we are still expecting to see some red cards or forfeits. I think this is an abuse... If "silent run" aka "russian dance" is considered an bug why doesn't CB turn it an enable stuff to do during the game ?? And if the others can do it why is Portugal the only team punished ??
