iBP and Vox invited to Katowice

To fill the two invitational spots for regions outside of Europe, EMS One have invited iBUYPOWER and Vox Eminor to the $250,000 CS:GO tournament in Katowice, Poland.

First eight teams for the second Valve funded CS:GO major were already announced over a month ago simultaneously with the event being announced, with two more invites to be determined later.

Now those two invitations have materialized in recent ESEA Invite S15 champions iBUYPOWER, who defeated Titan twice in the grand final, and Australian Vox Eminor who placed fourth at MSI Beat it! last year.

iBUYPOWER are headed to EMS One Katowice

All of the European qualifiers have already also kicked off, and you can find a small update on who made it through the first pre-qualifiers on our news post from yesterday.

With European qualifiers already half-way done and six more teams trying to weasel their way to Katowice in March, below are the ten teams who have already secured spots at the event:

Sweden fnatic Sweden NiP France Titan United States compLexity
France Nameless Sweden LGB eSports Ukraine ex-Astana Dragons Denmark über G33KZ
United States iBUYPOWER Australia Vox Eminor

EMS One Katowice will be held at Spodek Arena in Poland on March 14-16th with a massive prize purse of $250,000, funded through Valve's Arms Deal concept, up for grabs.

A shit map pool has already been confirmed, so unless inferno is your favourite map, this is awful. Only 16 teams, some of which are worse than teams that haven't been confirmed yet. And the groups/brackets will probably be the same as DHW. With 2 semi's and a final (all bo1) in each group, meaning teams will get to play twice, before having to fly all the way back home again. Probably won't get double elim bracket either, So if the top teams meet early on one side, the final will be pretty shit. It'll just be another DHW, which is nothing to brag about.

It's great to see Vox there cuz they haven't much chance to play versus top teams and probably they have much fans in Australia which want to watch them outside of country. Popularity of CS:GO will rise for sure, the fact is Australia is Call of Duty country, it will be changed some day maybe.

If double elim brackets is true, then this is a big step to where tournaments should be. I was trying to find if the brackets were confirmed before I posted but I couldn't find anything, so I just assumed, but double elim would be great :D

I forgot to add that although DE brackets is in every way superior to SE, it is not the same case in groups. Since there is only 16 teams, this is the best of the best. So Some of the best teams in the world will be going home after 2 games, which is shocking! It means teams like Vox have to climb a fucking mountain, only to have to fly to Australia after 2 games.

Blame Lurppis for suggesting the system then. The whole reason why it was adopted was that he suggested it in an article on here and people liked it.

The advantage is that the teams will not purposefully throw away games to avoid certain opponents early in the tournament (too risky). I think it's quite good, but only if done in bo3 mode.

Double elim group system gets rid of useless games. People who have a 0-2 record in round robin are pretty much guaranteed out but they still have to play a remaining game. Very likely they'll throw the last game and when map score is involved in tie situations its always a tricky case. Double elim removes any confusion as you know that you'll be out when you lose two games instead of hoping some other team won't have more rounds than you in tie situations. My ideal format would be a group stage with double elim format but bo3 for each match. It's been done before at CPH Games, although you need a lot more computers to play matches simultaneously and there probably won't be an official stream for each match but its the most fair imo.

I suppose it doesn't really make a diffrrence as long as the group games are best of 3. It just makes it so much more fair. And hopefully CPHG will get a nice prize purse, without changes to the format. There's nothing better than 32 teams in double elim bracket :D

+1, I remember when I saw the dhw schedule, I was pretty surprised how small-scale the tournament system was given the huge prize pool. It wasn't a bad tournament, but I expected a lot more honestly. Was really disappointing seeing some good teams leaving after two maps.

Take away the big prize pot and what is it? Just a shit 16 team tounrament, with terrible map pool and single elim bracket. Seriously just think about it for a sec. It just got really hyped because of the increase in viewers and players. This will be the same, but this time it won't a be a suprise to the community, we all know what to expect, so we won't see a huge increase in players like last time. The novelty has worn off already.

Why would it not happen again? Have I missed something? Have there been changes to the maps? No? ok, just wait and see, when this amount of money is on the line, teams don't want to take risks, so they naturally chose the most balanced map (inferno) time after time. And yes, of course I'm mad, I gave money to Valve to buy skins, and to increase the prize pot at tournament. Should the community not have even a shred of a say how the tournaments play out?

The fact that teams like to play inferno because its a map where you can make comebacks at each sides is actually wrong by your means? You mean they should play the maps that the viewers like too watch or?

I don't really understand your first question, they chose inferno because it is the most balanced map at this level with the maps as they are right now. At least, more balanced than train and nuke. dust2 is kinda like a wildcard, and a lot of teams just straight up don't practice mirage. To solve this, just make a map pool with the better editions of the maps, and not the valve ones. Viewers aren't fussy with maps I don't think, but if every other games is played on inferno, then viewers won't be happy.

That is what i pointed out, Inferno is one of the most balanced maps right now. Mirage is correct . They dont really like it (if you dont count in Fnatic/NiP more or less). But it wont make any different at all. They will still pick Inferno.

It would make a difference if we changed map in the map pool. de_trainwreck has absolutely no place in this game, at any skill level. Seeing how train_ve played in esea seems like it is a lot more balanced, so this would be a good substitution. The old mirage was one of the best, if not the best map in go, that 's a no brainer that that should return. A nuke should probably be tweaked to stop these 15-0 CT sides. And obviously cache should be in the map pool as well.

I dont say anything about playing old mirage(i love it so) and also i like train_ve. I want to play everytime i can when i play ESEA so :) And as you said 15-0 Nuke aint good but have been like that for ages... I tho think if they actually tweaked overpass it could have been a great map. Now it will never touch comp plays and alot of ppl dont think the same as me but ya. Also cache SHOULD be in the map pool but we got some dumb fucks @ IEM so what to do .... Lets face it, IEM wont be a better tournament then DHW was so. Even tho its the same amount of money, and i have always said it. CPH games should have had the money instead.

True, it's a shame that CPH might not get money, but if I had the choice of CPH Games with $250,000 prize pool and all decisions made by valve, compared to CPH getting no money, but keeping true to their 32 teams and double elim bracket, then I'd take the latter any day :D

You have right about 16 teams, i think that new teams can't show what they can do versus great teams, there is no real chance for them, if they show good performance online it will be do them just "onliners" or they will get ban for "cheat" and because this all of teams stopping with playing or changing line ups and it's not good. Personally for me, i'm more "happy" when i watching some less-known teams and get some new names.

It's nice to see a team which is from a diffirent region than everyone else, but it's still unfair to everyone else that team gets invite without showing any results on international scene.

Well Vox Eminor got invite based on their placing in MSI beat it, so they obviously have shown enough results to get invited. I for one would rather watch Vox E playing than Virtus.pro or Na'Vi; teams that people miss most, but in the same time they have 0 results. Imo making CS:GO global is a good thing, even though some of the EU teams will be sacrificed in the process.

it could be considered unfair but then how are teams outside of europe etc supposed to gain international experience to improve and get results without attending events sponsors are willing to send them to - that sort of logic would only apply if they were to spend a whole year in europe playing against all of the best teams in the world and they have their lives to live over in australia; then again, they beat the teams in asia while the majority of brazilians say their teams are trash so i think it would still be the best invite outside of europe.

Why don't they just have a qualifier for Oceania and the US? I mean it would probably be these two teams who qualify, but at least the rest of the scenes would have something to prepare for and competition to up their game. I don't like these free tickets. Same for the top 8 of DHW. The qualification process for DHW was imo very questionable, and every team that was able to win 2 maps o_O (de_inferno Pros)... gets a free invite to the next big event... it's pathetic. Now all other teams have to go through 3-4 highly competitive qualifiers to get 1 of the 6 remaining slots.

because we can't have an oceanic qualifier. australia can barely play ocenaic teams other than australian and new zealand teams. other countries get 100+ ping to 90% of our servers, same with us to theirs.

two options regarding AGAiN's performance: 1) They will perform really good, because it's in poland. Imo unlikely, but wouldn't be surprised. 2) They will loose all games as always if they have just landed an organisation- they immediately start slacking

What kind of qualifier are you talking about? (I am new CS:GO`er, but I guess the qualifier format is the same as CS 1.6(?)) Why is not AGAiN / Virtus.Pro added to the EMS Katowice Polish qualifer, which is coveraged by HLTV.org?

A qualifier for the regional finals. If you're looking in the coverage tab, that's the 2nd of two polish qualifiers the first of which is already complete. The winners of these qualify for a regional final(online) to determine the who will compete in the main event(EMS One Katowice). More info at: csgo-emsone.com/katowice-2014/

Imo f.e. Clan Mystik or Virtus.pro will do just about same damage. They will drop in group stage and go home. I'd rather watch new team, with completely different strats and approach towards the game than seeing f.e. these two mentioned teams.

I wasn't going to say it counts, it was quite a while ago and I really think (hope) Vox will step it up :) Win or lose, it is just positive to make the game more global, rather than just Euros playing between each other.

Well if you take football as an example, only europeans teams are worth mentionning and the biggest competition remain the champiions league (beside World Cup of course as we have ESWC). And football is doing just fine :).. But well, wait & see. Hope to see Vox doing good, even if I highly doubt it.

I am not really into football, but I think there is a similar thing as Champ's league only for South America? And winner then plays with winner of Champ's league? Might be totally wrong about it though. Anyway, football is doing just fine because it is worlds #1 sport, whereas CS:GO is not even #1 esport. And esport is still not even considered regular sport, except in some advanced countries *ehm* *ehm* Korea, Japan *ehm* *ehm* :)) So in order to make CS:GO and whole esport global thing (I think that's what most people around here hope for), diversity is always a great thing. So what that VP and CM won't be in Katowice? There will be another X local tournaments in which Vox will not take part.

I meant inside of the europe of course. I would rather see a solid team like Reason (they might not go trough the qualifer, it's just an example anyway) than Vox. Why is this important that a team comes out of the europe or not?

People from india were invited at ESWC and they were terrible... Of course they aren't "terrible" as players, but they're terrible regarding the europeans top teams level. Do I always have to explain everything every time so you guys get my point or what?

In comparison to all other teams that have represented Australia (Since function-zer0's impact in 2002-2006), Vox Eminor are the best.

Thanks to all those who are cheering for us. Thanks also to those who aren't you are only making us stronger. It's true currently our best result internationally was the 3rd place playoff against SK losing 16-13 & 16-11. This was our first ever international comp. i can guarantee we will train harder than quite a lot of teams going, and if we don't show good results here, we will be back. We aren't leaving the international scene.

No doubt an Asian team would bring in a lot of spectators, but why would that be fair to Voxe who established themselves as the best team in Asia by quite a large margin.

Vox totally deserved the spot. I'm not arguing against that; they proved they are better than Asian teams. What I am saying is its totally unfair to exclude more than half the world (Asia) from 2 successive valve sponsored tournaments.

Yes, because the 4.3 billion Asians all watch CS. You want them to patronize Asia just to get the approval of a few close-minded Asian CS fans?

"a few close-minded Asian Cs fans". I bet the number of people playing csgo in asia far outnumbers those playing in both American continents simply owing to the fact that Asia has 60% of the world population. I know you might say something along the lines of third world countries but even than I believe Asia has the numbers to justify a spot at Valve sponsored events. P.S why did you call Asians as close minded? Just shows your own ignorance! Afraid of my flag much?

So you want the "significantly worse" teams to stay that way by not giving them any opportunity to improve. Secondly I think you are not getting the point which is that we are talking about valve sponsored tournaments i.e tournaments sponsored by us as Cs fans through ingame purchases. I think Asians have given their fair share through that model to justify one of their teams being present at said events (even if they are "significantly worse").

You assume that there are more Asian CS players because the population is higher there... By that logic China has the most ice hockey players in the world. The population is irrelevant, if there's little interest in something, there will be no scene. Sure, it'd be nice to see an Asian team, but they shouldn't be obligated to invite an arguably worse team, especially when the stakes are so high.
