de_crown released

Shawn "FMPONE" Snelling and Sal "Volcano" Garozzo have released de_crown on the Steam Workshop.

After more than nine months of hard work, Shawn "FMPONE" Snelling and Sal "VOLCANO" Garozzo, the creators of de_cache, have released their latest creation, whose purpose is to establish itself as the best competitive map ever.

Drawing inspiration from the architecture of Barcelona, de_crown promises to take tactics to a whole new level as it does not have a classic middle section, making rotations much more difficult.

Below you can find a picture overview of de_crown:

To test de_crown, simply download the map on the Steam Workshop. You can also read parts one and two of a three-part article put together by the creators of de_crown about the concept behind the map.

It looks at least balanced, because both sites are susceptible to rushes. They can be overwhelmed before backup can arrive due to long rotations (pretty much back through your spawn every time). I think CTs would have to play some sort of a retake strat on this map, cos otherwise you will be playing 2/3 v 5 all the time.

Need more competetive maps asap Volvo ! EDIT: Entrance to A (door) needs to be wider or removed, only place for 1 TT at a time. Roof side on B needs to be lowered so tt boosts are possible or retake will be too easy. Much much CT map, like 11-4.

Most of the play tests with professional North American players were around 7-8 rounds for CTs, but will be interesting to see how scrims play out once teams learn the angles, smokes, nades, etc

Initial impression is nice visuals and good space. Though the "no real mid" kind of makes me feel like the bomb sites are all in's and then the retakes are going to be really hard. Hard to say for sure without playing though.

Compared to a map like dust2 or inferno, there are actually more bombsite entrances than traditionally which allows for multiple retake options - a lot of these changes came after pro player play tests

Realistically bombsite B only has 3 not 5. Because there is no mid to allow CTs quick access to get to the other two. If you want to retake from the two T entrances it seems like you will have to push early as a CT, against good teams this won't work as they will always have 1 watching the flank early while the others work the opposite site. A seems to suffer the same problem. The T entrances really aren't good retake points. Again, because of no mid. and the fact that 1 T will always cover the flank early in the round preventing any CT quick access to retake from there. I did watch some of the U5 players play, and it seemed like zero retakes happened from the T entrances. Some of the changes made were good, particularly that wall being added above CT spawn so T's couldn't snipe CTs on a rotate. Due to the no mid I still feel like the map is kind of "all in" for T also. the ideal way to play seems to just have one watch for the push and the other 4 take the other site. It appears to lack the fake element or quick rotate element that other maps have, particularly inferno. I may be wrong on all of this, im just assuming things from watching brief periods of play, and running around in the map myself. Hopefully it plays well or changes are made to it early to create another great map for the top tier of cs.

So basically, Crown will be very, very T-sided with no connector/mid. Well, I suppose since the CTs already have at least two of those (Nuke and Train... and a lesser argument could be made for Inferno), maybe it's okay for the Ts to have one of their own. Regardless, their goal to supplant Dust2 as the penultimate competitive map has already failed, seems to me. The beauty of Dust2 is that it isn't especially sided, and Crown is failing to heed that lesson.

de_dust2 is T sided. It's due to its middle and catwalk which can't really be contested by CTs unless they take more risks than Ts. It leaves the Ts a lot of options while keeping a clean map control.

That's nice and all (you're not telling me anything I don't already know, bud), but statistically Dust2 is only very slightly T-sided. The average round split in GO is only 51% in favor of Ts. csgolikeapro.com/index.php?title=File:Si.. These are official Valve stats. There's a reason why so many Dust2 matches have 8-7 scores at half-time. edit: Copy/paste that whole link as it's shown there, the forums here are cutting the link off at the second colon for some reason.

I wasn't really talking about stats, but if there are enough games played, 1% is enough to not call it an even map in my opinion. It's funny though, because apparently de_inferno was chosen the most at EMS because of its supposed balance between T and CT side, but if your data is accurate then they should have picked de_dust2 instead.

D2 was chosen a lot aswell. I think many pro-teams consider their Inf to be better than their D2, seems you get more dominant on inf after a lot of practise.

on a pro level dust2 is very T sided man if both teams are about the same skill. when you play MM really all maps should be CT favoured since you dont really need to use any strats on ct side

- Bombsite A is ok - no mid most likely will kill any kind of hope that it would become competetive - Bombsite B is to small, tbh it's the smallest bombste then any B site on any competetive map - map have huge spawn zones but small fighting zones so also complete oposite of any competetive map I think you got ur scales wrong, you can try on Call of Duty forums with it.

Generally there is still a middle area, with two options of crossing over to the other site - under the bridge, or jumping from the plank ledge to the bridge - I guess you could count a third if you run up catwalk but you cross through "A" then

Bombsites are small and respawns are big, you have teams fighting on verry small area. What we can learn from any competetive map is that each team TT aswell as CT have some space to work with or rotate. There is np such space on this map.

There are huge, useless bridges and windows. Even some kind of stable or some shit, which is useless and will make too much confusion and will make it too hard to retake the site.

Well, these parts are not small, as you just said yourself. I think everyone will agree that the stable is too much and needs to be removed, but saying the bomb site is too small is just exaggerating, compared to other maps the bomb sites are perfectly fine in size, they could even be larger.

I think you already chose to dislike the map before giving it a try honestly. Since when not having a mid would prevent the map from being competitive ? It only brings different kind of games, and rotation is not that hindered on this map honestly. I think that giving a definite opinion on a map a few hours after its release is just hasty. We have to play the map a lot, give our feedback, if changes are made, test the changes, give our feedback, and so on. I see many people wanting some new maps, that's cool, but if we don't try to give mapmakers a chance we'll never have these new maps.

I would like to see ESEA upload it to scrim/pug servers for ppl to test it out and build up the hype but they wont because it isn't in league map rotation and because of that I don't see this map being used for league play. At this state it's something like 6/10 to competitive map. It's a good start, and i think that these guys can make magic happen after bigger pro feedback. There are some entrances etc. which are way too tight for competitive play, and needs to be wider. Whole no-mid thing isn't a problem i think. It's a fun to see how leagues, valve or whole community welcomes this map. I really hope that competitive map pool would grow with couple maps. I don't want to see anymore inferno only tournaments.

There is no possible feedback to give, in order to save this map. Since FMPONE said that he made this map only with the competitive scene in mind, he shows that he has no clue whatsoever about making new maps from scratch, and should just stop. It's as simple as that. You don't give constructive feedback to a monkey who tries to drive a car, you just make the monkey stop and have him do something else.

Okay, so you're just being arrogant and try to hide your knowledge so that you don't have to share it. And you're also insulting people who don't have the knowledge you have (or so you think). Sad to see people with such a behaviour. I really hope you'll understand some day that keeping knowledge for yourself has no meaning.

any map is almost useable, it's just a matter of fact for big events sponsored by valve that force those maps and teams will practice them. If there's money, people will play.

problem with cbble is that the distance from the entrances to the sites to the actual plant spots is too long , on this map the sites are small so it could work anyway

as I said imho we were just lucky to get de_cache. didn't see de_gwalior anywere is csgo. couldn't care less about cs_whatever. And I do hope it will be added. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would pay monthly just to have ALL maps from workshop in mm. Valve should just check maps for possible performance issues and approve. Since Valve are really bad at matchmaking they could at least bring variety.

only really big problem seems to me the entrance through door to the A site, it either needs to be alot bigger or to add another entrance on the right side of the site ( right side from T spawn ).

My first reaction on the map is that it has way too many different heights which will make it very difficult for terrorists to attack. But otherwise has he used clean textures and not exhibited too much crap on the map which is always good!

Good but... Pros: - simple, - clean, - textures, Cons: - circle layout (there should be middle for both teams, currently you can't rotate from A -> mid -> B), - buldings too high, - too big respawns, - too much space in some passages,

at the current state it's just an exercise of style, for sure a good one, but not suitable for any competitive gameplay. The map it self is about a 20% too large, there are too many camping spots but not enough cover in open spaces, and without a real "mid" it will be quite unbalanced imho. Make it smaller, streamlined, and move the "courtyard" in the middle with slash shaped access points from angles, and I think it will be fine.

Can't agree enough. The map is too large, too open, and has too many long range sight lines (some of which are just absurdly long). I'll continue following the map to see what else changes, but as it is I don't see this being a map I would enjoy playing matches on or being something that takes off competitively.

Good design but the visuals dont fit well with valves map rotation. With the right theme the map could be extremely popular. Imagine the same thing but with aztec textures. Would be sick Also you could make it easier for Terrorists and provide at least a basic mid connector by some kind of sewer system. Imagine a T shape sewer from T spawn. Left side of the T goes to A and right side goes to B

Whole point of cs meta right now is u set your guys as TT on difrent points of map to get info and then fake one of bombsites and atack other. This map say no fake atacks, no rotate just go straight on one bombsite. And all good competetive maps have mid or some kind a way to move to second bombsite like vents on nuke or ladder on train but... We will have map with no such things and we will call it competetive because we said so, and all the things that made map competetive means nothing because here we have some "famous" map makers and they just couldn't go wrong.

I don't see how this map wouldn't qualify as "competitive" map. In my opinion main factor which determines if map is "competitively viable" is if it's layout is predictable enough for utilizing strategies over performing random mix styled individual plays. If that factor checks then there won't be any problems for teams to adapt this map. If it was too simple then that would be a problem for resulting in too few efficient strategies to use, however I don't think this map is that simple to get stuck with that problem.

I think it's pretty interesting map. Having no mid isn't a new concept for a cs map, but it can be a good thing in few ways. One is that most of new maps have trouble getting popular because it takes time to learn how to play them, but this map is easy to learn and figure out how to play it and at same time makes it more comfortable to play. Another thing is that this map offers something different instead of having similiar gameplay as in most maps, which is why it have value to be included in mapcycles for improving diversity of gameplay. I definetly support this map to be played on competitive level, at very least it deserves a trial. It might be perceived negatively for offering something different from standard, but that's why we gotta play it more and support it to ensure that it isn't being neglected just for this kind of biases.

Textures are pretty good but the map have to be revised. The hole in the middle makes it impossible for T-side to move from A to B fast. So CT-side is dominate on this map.

Do you think that hiding in a random places is how CTs are going to hold a bombsites? There are 2+ entrances to each bombsite, which decreases number of viable campspots.
