Virtus, NiP to CPH semi-finals

Virtus.pro have advanced to the semi-final in Denmark after a 2-0 win (16-13 de_nuke, 16-9 de_mirage) versus LGB. They will be joined by NiP, who bested Reason 2-0 (16-12 de_inferno, 16-7 de_train).

Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski and Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas combined for five kills to win the terrorist pistol round of de_nuke versus LGB. The Swedes' Freddy "KRiMZ" Johansson then won a key one-on-one to steal round three.

Despite losing that round, Jarosław "pasha" Jarząbkowski made up for it right after with a one-on-one win against Isak "cype" Rydman. Down 1-4, LGB won three straight rounds to tie the game up, including a Rydman one-on-one.

Next rounds were traded to tie it up at five, but LGB lost a two-on-three in upper and were forced to save, putting Virtus.pro up 7-5 on the significantly harder side of the map.

Strong AWP play by Olof "olofm" Kajbjer outside helped LGB get back on their feet, winning three straight rounds with some important picks by Kajbjer to give his side a 8-7 lead.

LGB bow out of Copenhagen Games disappointed

The Swedes extended their winning streak to six rounds by winning the second half pistol round and two Virtus save round. Virtus won round four, bringing the score to 9-11.

Then Pogorzelski won a crucial one-on-three in the lower site, saving Virtus' economy in the process. That allowed the Poles to tie the game at eleven, as opposed to potentially trailing 9-13.

The next four rounds were traded with LGB having some success attacking the lower bombsite from outside, and getting key entry frags on the Poles trying to rotate to help.

Tied at thirteen, the killer instinct of the Poles finally kicked in, as they sweeped the floor with LGB, winning three straight rounds to clinch a 16-13 win on the opening map of the series.

On de_mirage it was LGB's turn to win the opening pistol round. Two Five-Seven kills by Bieliński saw Virtus win a save round in round three though, and a triple by Pogorzelski soon gave them a 3-2 lead.

Neo is glad to have secured another top four finish

That save round loss seemed to take all wind off of LGB's sails, and they had a massive collapse, going down 2-9 before coming even relatively close to winning another round.

Down 2-11, Johansson and Simon "twist" Eliasson combined for four kills to get LGB a round. Johansson then was able to win his team, the final round of the half, making it 4-11.

Any hopes of an LGB comeback were shattered with Virtus running over them in the B bombsite to open the second half. The underdogs went for a forcebuy, but saw their deficit increase to 4-14.

LGB then mounted a mini comeback, one that saw Dennis "dennis" Edman seemingly wake up for the first time in the series. Five straight round wins didn't hlep their case though, as they were once more knocked out by Virtus.pro, this time 0-2.

NiP had a weak start on de_inferno, going down 1-4 as terrorists to Finn "karrigan" Andersen's Reason. They later trailed 4-7, but ultimately were able to beat the Danes in the half 8-7.

Second half saw Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund's team win the pistol round. Reason once more were able to fight back and win some rounds, but ultimately fell short with a score of 12-16.

Despite losing map one, Reason didn't seem baffled. They once again had a flying start, going up 4-1 as counter-terrorists on de_train. NiP quickly tied the game at five then, and regained control.

The Swedes changed sides up 9-6, and once on the easier side made quick work of the Danish team with a 16-7 win on it, good for 2-0 overall and a spot in the semi-finals.

Completely different retrard... Titan always have trouble against fellow french teams, if you expected one team to win over the other in that game, you are pretty dumb. That game was always 50/50. Where as dignitas have no chance against nip, nip have completely got their number, just like titan/HR have nip's number. Go and check previous results if you want evidence.

It's kind of funny how people still consider Titan as a top 1-3 team, while they've got kicked out of IEM in the groups and now in the quarter finals by a much weaker team tbh

Didn't fully expect Titan to be raped so easily, though at this point I can confidently say they can't achieve anything on LAN from now on. Hoping final is VP vs Dignitas, I want to see something different and I don't want NiP to win.

The seeding system is kind of ridiculous. NiP haven't had a hard way into the semi-finals or even finals in their last 3 tournaments. What is this mentality? "Yeah, they are the best, so let's make it easier for them". They never face a good team with a favourable matchup against them, like fnatic, LGB, Titan, VP, HR earlier in the tournament. Instead they get to play Reason, coL, LDLC, dignitas, teams they never had problems against and shouldn't have. Maybe dignitas can upset them today, doubt it highly though. It's just boring to see them on the side of the bracket where they only have to win 1-2 real matches to be crowned the winner, and then they don't even manage that. That's of course no excuse for Titan. They lost a matchup they were supposed to win as per ranking, and they have been doing that for some time now. First Clan-Mystik (ESWC), then NiP (DHW) and iBP (ESEA), later dignitas (FBM), then HR and VP (EMS), now LDLC. Titan are struggling, and are a shaky TOP5 in my book. I still think apEX is the missing puzzle piece for that team to work out, ScreaM is either not evolving or not used properly. Anyway, I'm not sure whether they will risk messing with their roster just yet. Then again, what do they have to lose? They crashed out of both majors, can't get much worse.

Titan are low? Your definition of "low" would be interesting to hear. Not that I implied the opposite, read again, the "shaky TOP5" part might clear things up for you. So, in the last 5 tournaments, NiP had to face 1 of the teams they struggle against, and they did struggle. The DHW win was anything but "ez". However, I am not rating teams like dignitas and coL as "low teams", whatever you may think "low teams" are when we re talking about the best 10 teams in the world. What I am saying is simply that there are a handful of teams that can compete with NiP in a direct matchup, and NiP always seems to get the route through the tournament without facing any of them.

It comes down to luck. Afaik after groups, the second place finishers are randomly drawn into the next round. There haven't been many tournaments where NiP have had to face their kryptonite, as there are not many teams they struggle against. I'd say, the only teams you'd have to give favour to winning when playing NiP are HR and Titan. That's only two Teams, and as we just saw, either one could exit the tournament before facing NiP.

NiP must have some serious luck then. I agree that Titan and HR are the only two teams that actually have the advantage in the matchup versus NiP. But then there's fnatic, LGB, VP. These 3 might not be the favorite going into a NiP clash, but nobody would be surprised if they win a BO3. As in, they have promising matchups against NiP, whereas dignitas, 3DMAX, Reason, coL, LDLC and the bunch historically can't get their game together when facing them. Dodging 5 teams in major playoffs consistently can't be luck. This time it was definitely the #1 seed that got NiP onto the favourable side of the bracket.

Oh yeah for sure it was their seed this time. NiP and Titan had to only play one game to get to round of 16, some other teams had to play 4. Regarding other tournaments, I guess it must come down to luck, and NiP always winning their group, they basically set themselves up for the easiest possible bracket. Let's not forget that they did face LGB and then Titan at DHW. And there is always coL, which always cause problems for NiP, and they normally face these guys at some point in the bracket.

LGB wasn't the team it is now back then. And even then, it would still be astonishing that in so many competitions, NiP had to face so few of the teams that can win BO3s against them. As for coL, sorry but I don't and have never considered them anywhere near ready to win against NiP. They are simply not enduring enough and hungry enough to keep up with them. Sure, they do well on a map maybe, have some promising actions or set up favourable situations, but at some point them simply get overwhelmed and are outclassed from there on out. coL have faced NiP in 3 large events, and I'm quite confident saying that NiP have not ever struggled once against them in those events. coL is an opponent NiP would prefer over one of the other teams I mentioned any day of the week in a big tournament.

I'm not saying coL will eventually beat NiP, they lost a key player recently and I only mention them to say that NiP haven't had it completely easy in brackets. At EMS, besides the game they lost, coL was their toughest and closest match.

They did have to face a top 4 team in brackets though. But NiP were better and made it look easy, that's why they are the number one team. There aren't many teams that can beat them, so most of the time, it will look as if NiP have an easy bracket. Put any other team in their place, and you will see them struggle.

I wouldn't say coL is a top 4 team and wasn't at the time either. Again, I'm not saying they are facing bad teams only. I'm saying they never face any of the 5 teams that can and did win against NiP on more than 1 map.
