GIGACON 2014 with €7,300 tourney

The organisers behind GIGACON 2014 have announced that they will put together a CS:GO tournament with cash prizes of approximately €7,300.

GIGACON 2014 will run from October 2nd to 5th in the Norwegian capital of Oslo, with a major LAN for 3,000 people being held side by side with a DreamHack-like digital festival.

eSports will also play a big role in this event, with five international tournaments taking place: League of Legends, Street Fighter 4, CS:GO, StarCraft 2 and Hearthstone.

The CS:GO competition will feature 16 teams, eight who are invited by the organisation and eight who qualify via the BYOC qualifiers. The prize purse for this tournament stands at 60,000 NOK, which is approximately €7,300.

More information about this event will be released in the coming weeks, but it has already been announced that the registration process will open only in July.

Gigacon is run by the same guy who runs eSports Norway. Without going into details, it seems that everything that seems good for the community ends with dissapointment, such as unpaid prizemoney, bad behaviour, excluding known organisations for selfish reasons and more, just google esn and spillexpo. Im all in for the good of Norwegian e-sport, but I will never support an event held by men who "rule" for selfish reasons nor will I ever be one myself.

That is not correct, as they announced that the event will go from 2nd of October to the 5th of October in this article. Vikingskipet is booked saturday 4th October for a 50 year celebration of Ole Ivars. Source: hoa.no/no/arrangement/ EDIT: Also this event is not listed there either, nor would it work since they advertised it would happen in the Oslo area, and Hamar is quite a distance off from Oslo.

They have never announced Vikingskipet as a location. They have tried to book it, I got sources who can confirm that, but they got denied. Thats one reason why the whole event got moved to October. They still haven't released info regarding location, that's because they still are working to find one. Sloppy work, so I remain a sceptic. It doesn't really help that the owner of the whole concept got the most broken reputation in the entire scene aswell.
