FACEIT to host DH Summer qualifiers

Why are you saying it isn't? As far as we are concerned we didn't have any half time bugs since the new version of ebot was released yesterday morning. Edit: twitter.com/deStrO_BE/status/46849599181.. Here is the description of the changes we were testing.

Thanks! We got 3 reports of half time bugs throughout the last 2 days (since the release). Checking the admin team if anyone forgot to report any, but 3 out of 2000+ games is way better than it used to be. It looks like the bug is now due to a connection error between ebot and our servers and not ebot itself (which improves things significantly compared to the huge amount of issues we used to get when ebot would have started losing events non-stop!). We are checking with our server provider if we can do something about it. Edit: All reports arrived today, I guess announcing that it was solved didn't bring us luck :(

Yeah, working on it. This bug has been a nightmare for us at times with 50 ongoing matches all getting stuck at the same time. The good news is that it seems linked to a connection issue with the game servers rather than the software, which means that it happens way less than before.

" without any issues at all ". Wrong. Last time me and my team played in some qualifier ( month ago ) we waited 3 hours for our first match when others were playing their 3rd match. Then we got to play, and eBot crashed in 2nd half and we had to wait 15 minutes for an admin. Just lookup on the forums, there was a thread with about 50 people complaining.

Sorry, without any issues at all is a wrong thing to say, as unfortunately as long as humans are involved there will always be. We host 128 team tournaments each Sunday and bring them to a successful end each Sunday. Of course with 128 teams (640 players) there will be things which will be missed or delayed, as with everything, but at the end of the day we run them within only a few hours.

If you have a fix for this, drop us an email and we will make sure the admins are instructed to this. After speaking with the eBot developers, they do not have a solution, so it would also be useful to them if you had one.

HAHA. I have played in several of the 128 team tournaments, and there is always a problem, ALWAYS. The website crashes, the client connection between the website and the server gives insane fps drops. Once our team was actually kicked from the semifinals, beacuse your admins knew the "semipro" swedes we crushed, we were told that you busted us on demos. Later that week we was told that you actually didn't even look at the demos. AND that you kicked the team that got us kicked, for not having demos aswell. You do not have any anticheat on the tourneys, you tell us that cs admins are reviewing the demos when the fact is that i found 2 faceit admins online at the moment of the 128 man tourney. And one of them was talking to me. Im sorry for my bad grammar, kind of rude accusations and opinions.

World FACEIT
Hi everyone, Just to make things clear and make sure everyone is on the same page. As of today on FACEIT we host approximately 1,000 tournaments per month, most of which without issues. We had two big hickups in CS tournaments so far (DHW Qualifier in November and FACEIT League Qualifier a month ago). I think you all deserve an explanation to why those happened and what we did in order to make sure this doesn't happen again (and for those of you that are into development it may be interesting). DHW Qualifier During the DHW Qualifier we were supposed to have a 64 teams tournament. As you all remember we ended up with almost 200 teams. What happened that day is that we discovered a major glitch in our API. Basically, long story short, the file of the tournament was growing exponentially based on the number of players that was inside. As if this was not enough, our former CTO (fired last year) left us with a horrible implementation of pusher in that particular point of the API, which means that every time there was a change the whole file would have been reloaded on the API for each player. For anyone understanding servers, it's easy to see the results on RAM usage which lead to our servers dying. We went through that with a dirty trick (we basically sent the file and the requests to AWS directly rather than the API). Since then we have changed the whole system and those files are now 1% of the size they used to be. Some of you may have noticed it when we changed the U/I of the tournament page. FACEIT League Qualifier This is more recent, April 2014. We had hosted a number of 128 teams tournaments with literally no issues for the previous 3 weeks and decided to have the qualifier for 256 teams. We ended up opening it to 512 teams with almost 300 teams checking in. Two main things failed here: 1. Our API got ddosed. This was not a big deal, since it is protected by a DDOS protection policy, but it caused the spike arrest policy to kick in. This means that some users were experiencing lag when connecting (c.10% of requests) as the API protection infrastructure was queuing requests. 2. Ebot collapsed. This is what created the most issues. Since the previous update (literally 4 days before) ebot was losing events sent from the server. With the high amount of concurrent matches (over 150) this bug created a disaster with matches linked to the wrong server, and other stuck at half time (we called this bug the "half time bug"). We eventually managed to finish the tournament that same day (thanks to all those patient enough to play till the end), but the issues during the first matches were harsh and a few matches were delayed by as much as 3 hours. If it wasn't enough the high amount of admin chats (we counted 3,000 chats opened in 1 hour) crashed the third party chat system we use for communication with admins, making it even more difficult to manage the issues. To be clear, there were over 12 persons working live behind the scene during that day (non stop since 9am) and trust me when I say that not even an army would have been able to do much better in that situation. Now, since then we have worked really hard to solve these issues as well. The main changes we did were: - Ebot has been fixed and is now able to manage a significantly higher amount of concurrent matches (thanks Julien!!). This patch has been released today and resulted in 0 half time bugs over the whole day (and we had over 1,000 matches in CS today). - We changed and optimized our spike arrest policies to make sure that in case of ddos only the malign calls would get blocked (this happened a few times and seems to be working). I hope this helps in understanding the work that has been done to make sure that everything runs smoothly and that the platform keeps improving to be a worthy home for each of you. As for the DH qualifier, the fact of only having 128 spots over 3 tournaments is expected to help a lot. Additionally, we are going to have the full admin team live throughout the duration of the tournaments. Of course if any of you wants to be involved and know more, as usual feel free to contact us!

Hi, regarding the slowness we did a lot of work to improve it. We removed a few memory leaks client side and reduced server times by 50% over the last few weeks (the last change in this direction was made yesterday). Do you still experience it? Also, could you expand on the "bad overall"? It would be great to know what exactly you mean to solve it. What we see from the numbers is that since the last few updates it has improved a lot and we are constantly reaching over 50 concurrent pugs everyday (which is more than altpug and esea together in Europe).

im kinda retarded can someone explain me why they only make room for 128 people to sign up ? The chances of 128 teams checkin in is not very high, so that leaves the tournament with some open spots after all.. so i guess my question is if they want a tournament with 128 teams why only making 128 teams signup? :))) thanks and sry for stupidness

30 minutes before the start teams that didn't check in are deleted, which means new teams can enter and take the free spots. Edit: Also if you look at our tournament list of past tournaments every single tournament started full (excluding rare cases in which a team that checked in dropped immediately before the start). We have c. 10,000 CS:GO players connecting to FACEIT every single day, which makes it quite easy to fill tournaments up, particularly if its "only" 128 spots.
