CS:GO 4th in Twitch rankings

CS:GO has moved up to fourth in the latest edition of Twitch's monthly ranking.

If you needed some evidence to back up claims of CS:GO's growth, there you have it: Valve's FPS title was the fourth-most watched game in the streaming platform Twitch during May, moving up one position from April's ranking.

CS:GO is also the only FPS title to appear in the top 10 of the ranking. Call of Duty: Ghosts, the next FPS game on the list, sits at 11th place.

It is expected that CS:GO will keep this position for at least one more month, since June has been a very busy month, with DreamHack Summer and several online tournaments taking place.

Later this week, the ESEA Finals will take place, which are also expected to attract spectators by the thousands, as the likes of iBUYPOWER, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Virtus.pro and Na´Vi will battle it out for the top prize of $20,000.

I already dropped it and wanted to sell my entire collection but ended up giving it to my cousin, now I just play 1 or 2 games occasionally online when I feel like it.

It's easily explained as it's very "easy" to watch. Games like CS:GO requies your full attention to watch while Hearthstone is something many has playing in the background :)

LoL and DotA 2 are untouchable at first at second spot. WoW has high numbers because sodapoppin has been streaming it a lot. DayZ has summit. I'd say the numbers reflect more on who's streaming a game than the game itself. Pasha brings great numbers for CS:GO aswell :)

dayz doesn't only have summit, but also a lot of famous youtubers. I could do the same thing with csgo tbh, most people who watch are people who bet on the games, and don't really care about it since they just wanna make money.

the same could be said about poker, hearthstone and many other card games are based on predictions and choosing the best option. doing so allows you to win, more than you lose.

Poker is completely different. You have the same set of cards every time, and the main part of poker is bluffing, it's more about the psychology than the cards you have in your hand. Hearthstone is based on luck, you just play what you have in your hand, there is nothing more to it. Sure you can build a super deck, but if your opponent gets the right cards at the right time, you'll lose.

if you think Hearthstone is based purely on luck you don't know the game (no offense). I don't play it myself but you build a deck and play towards getting the cards you are looking, while making moves to allow those cards to show. It's a game hugely about prediction :)

I seriously don't know what do you want to predict in Hearthstone. You don't know your opponents cards, and how can you predict your own? I played the game a lot when I was bored and I had some insane plays :)

People don't watch a game only for skill display, they can watch it because of a streamer they really like or simply because they enjoy the game played.

You guys really need to understand the market (or whatever you want to call it). CS:GO doesn't compete with Hearthstone in terms of viewers. It's like comparing 7th Heaven and Manchester United - Chelsea on the TV. Audiences don't overlap. Hearthstone is a slow pased easy to watch game. Some follow it unquestionably and some has it on in the background. CS:GO requires your full attention. Most of the time, that is.

Quite surprised CS:GO is this high up the ranks actually given the fact pro players rarely streams and when they stream it is usually not for very long, letting only tournament streams doing the heavy load and streaming for the longest period. It's no surprise LoL and Dota2 is this high as they have players streaming for longer periods. CS:GO could learn a lot by this - or actually pro players could learn about this streaming more regularly for longer periods making much more publicity and awareness about the game; growing the fan base.

I really don't undestand why none of them do actually. Look at hiko. NA cs isn't even good yet he gets 4000+ viewers every day and I remember him saying last year that he reached 700+ subscribers. No idea what that figure is now, but that's such easy money.

And whenever f0rest, GeT_RiGhT and others is streaming they hit 7-10k and could potentially get higher if they were streaming for a longer period and more regularly. Of course they need some time off as they most likely is doing practice at night and taking a break doing the day, but doing a stream for a couple of hours 3-4 times a week should be a possibility even when having a schedule, they're gamers for crying out load!

Well, there are two big reasons here. The first is that CSGO players probably have less free time than MOBA players. I mean, I don't really know how many hours they put into serious practice, but my guess is that its 40h a week, on average. While I have seen Dota 2 players saying they play around 3h per day, except when bootcamping. The second is that streaming actually impacts your performance. Even on high end PCs, streaming adds a small delay on what you're doing (except maybe on super high end PCs). There are some pros streaming more often now than ever though. I see friberg, NBK, Hiko and n0thing streaming all the time.

Just wished that 1.6 had this kind of support from streamers back in the day. Seems like the death of Own3dtv was a good thing after all. GO only got those numbers from people watching giveaways and pathetic case unboxings. Surprised by the low numbers of SC2 and that quakelive and shootmania are 100% dead wtf happened?

So what? LoL and Dota are full of crazy random streams, gamer guuuurls and stuff like that, how is this better than case unboxings?

i've been playing the game since release and i find it still interesting to play. the meta changes every few weeks and new strategies come up, soon there even will be a patch which will add a lot of new cards to the game.

Do you just keep grinding ranked games and quests until you can play arena for some good cards ? I got bored of that after a few weeks

i barely play arena tbh, i dislike the concept because it's so random which makes predicting your opponent pretty hard. i play constructed ranked games most of the time since i've most cards now except some legendaries and i just buy some packs from the earned gold from time to time. in the start when i didn't have many cards i chose some class and a deck i wanted to craft so i kept disenchanting unneeded cards (even golds and legendaries). this way i had a decent deck pretty fast.

Huh, I just tried to fill my deck with Chillwind Yetis. Maybe that's why I hated it :) I guess working towards a strong deck would be fun, Do you know of any Hearthstone tips / strategy websites ?

sc2 so dead, that's what happens when a game is played only because of hype. BW was so much better. That's what is going to happen to CS:GO if the game doesn't become the best CS version it can possibly be.

I loved watching Korean BW, it was sooo huge. Sc2 came with a bunch of nobodies winning everything and destroyed it, just because of graphics and hype.
