coL shock NiP in ESEA opener

DreamHack Summer champions Ninjas in Pyjamas have been sent to the Lower Bracket at the ESEA Finals following a 1-2 defeat against compLexity.

compLexity came out very strongly in the first half on de_inferno, picking up an early 3-0 lead. In the first gun round, NiP danced to Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert's tune as the North American hot-shot got a quad kill to further enlarge his team's lead.

Richard "Xizt" Landström then reduced the deficit by giving his team their first round of the match, but NiP's recovery was short lived, though, as coL replied right after and picked up three rounds in a row to make it 7-1 for them.

Adam "friberg" Friberg set the pace in the following round with two entry kills in the banana area, pushing NiP all the way to a 5-7 scoreline. The last three rounds of the first half were neck-and-neck, with coL eventually picking up a 9-6 lead as they switched to the Terrorist side.

Friberg once again caught the eye in the pistol round as he won the decisive 1-on-2, which helped NiP to level the score on nine rounds. In the first gun rounds Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg and Sean "sgares" Gares drew admiring glances as they pulled off quad kills each, with neither team being able to stamp their authority on the game.

With coL leading the sore 12-11, Spencer "Hiko" Martin produced some highlight material as he got four great kills to his name in a 2-on-5 situation. Rounds kept going back and forth, and even though NiP eventually managed to close the gap on 13-14, a well-timed A split followed by a B rush gave coL a 16-13 victory on the map.

Hiko: Man of the match

Starting off on the Terrorist side on de_cache, coL were able to pick up where they had left off, winning a pistol round that was leaning towards NiP, who had twice as many men left alive as their opponents.

In the first anti-eco round, coL were stunned by NiP's great positioning as the home side were completely slaughtered while making their way to the bombsite. Winning this round allowed the Swedes to gain control of the match and pick up five rounds in succession, the last of which came cortesy of Richard "Xizt" Landström's quick ace on A.

coL then pulled back to reduce the deficit to 2-5, but some great AWP work from Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund in the A site kept their opponents at bay. It was only at this point that coL finally managed to string some rounds together as they closed the gap to just two rounds.

With the scoreline 7-5 in favour of NiP, Richard "Xizt" Landström stopped coL's A rush with a triple kill, with Todd "anger" Williams replying in the following round with three kills of his own. In the final round, coL fell short against the eco strategy from NiP, who were up 9-6 at the break.

In the second half, NiP got off to a great start and further enlarged their lead by winning the first three rounds. The first gun round also went their way, and even though Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert still tried to put a hault to NiP's incredible run, the Swedish side remained in the driving seat as they ran out 16-7 winners on this map.

NiP managed to take the game to a third map

On de_dust2, coL got to start on the highly-favoured Terrorist side and they came out the brighter on this map, winning the pistol round without losing a single player. In gun play, the North American side’s catwalk push caught NiP’s players by surprise and gave coL a commanding 4-0 lead.

Sean "sgares" Gares then dropped the ball by dying in the double doors, allowing Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg to pick an AWP up and put it to great use with three kills to his name to make it 1-4. A mid-B split in the following round caught NiP’s players off-guard, mostly because of Spencer "Hiko" Martin’s double kill, with the North American player deserving one big round of applause later on as he won a 1-on-4 situation. At this point NiP were looking more and more lost, so it was with little surprise that the Swedes were down by nine rounds at half time.

Things then went from bad to worse for NiP as they lost the first three rounds of the second half, and even though they were able to string three rounds together, it was too little too late for them as coL picked up a 16-6 win to progress to the semi-finals of the tournament, while the Swedens have been left wondering what went wrong.

It's not like that when lrppis get wrong then only I write such comments (particullary me, not talking about other trolls)... I never like his prediction whether he is right or wrong but what I like about him is his coverage skills, writing skills, interview skills if he does.

Huge win for coL especially from a mentality/confidence perspective. They've had great series wins vs. Titan (when they were in top form) and other decent euro teams like old Astana, but they haven't been able to get the NiP monkey off their back until today. There's so much CS left to be played, but coL must have a lot of confidence now. At least they know when they're on point (and getting a bit of help from an under-performing NiP)they can beat any team in the world. Don't get me wrong NiP is still a much more refined team, however coL can certainly play with the big boys if they're firing on all cylinders. GG all...

Its because of comments like that one that everyone thinks americans are a fucking joke. coL played amazingly well, no doubt, but it was obvious NiP werent performing up to their standarts. GeT_RiGhT was inexistent, and their overall gameplay was simply odd in some cases. It will be an EU team to win the tournament in the end ;)

well teams are usually able to beat nip once and then they can't anymore since nip players then know how to counter them this happened with fnatic, virtuspro, navi, and it can happen here cant be 100% sure tho but still

You're just no accepting the fact that betting implies losing from time to time. Players are never throwing at this kind of events. LAN tournaments are what they practice for, they don't intend to come, lose games and come back home just for some digital objects when in the other hand they have a chance to prove they're the best, win a title and get some real money. NiP are not invincible, and next time you bet you'll remember that.

Amazing match by coL, that is some serious bragging rights to have to faced NiP in the very first round and WON. I bet 90% of anyone paying attention to this LAN would have automatically assumed coL would be in losers brackets after first match, especially considering the team that faces NiP first often does end up in losers bracket.

You cant be serious if you didnt realized NiP was playing sub-par to their standarts. There was several miss-communications that would never happen normally, their aim was shaky and yes, get_right was simply not there.

Well Hiko is performing good.. but i feel that the reason behind NiP's lose is that GeT_RiGhT under performed.. like in Inferno map.. Get right's score after 1st half was 0-14 :/ And Fifflaren was as usual bad :/ If GeT_RiGhT and F0rest plays good or even stay with a positive KPD ratio then NiP definitely wins. GeT_RiGhT has to perform otherwise NiP doesn't stand any chance as Fifflaren is not that good at fragging. He is more of a support player then a main player.

whats so great about that? if streamers are in big teams they will stream in their free time (for da $$$$) and as soon as thier teammates are on ready to pracitce then he will stop? i mean people have been doing this in other games for years. idk you make it out like you cant be good if you stream, or you wont have enough time to practice if you do? edit : if anything it will motivated him to play CSGO more when his teammates are not around, because he will be making more money than most people on this forum, just from streaming.

my comment wasn't intended to be negative in anyway man, my amazing english skills coming into play i see ;p i'm not saying you can't be in a professional team and stream, i wanted "hiko showing us that being a streamer and professional player can work out quite well" to come across like hiko can do it and make it work so why can't more players like gtr/forest and other high level players who speak english stream more often. nbk has started to be the morning streamer for eu/english speaking fans and it would be nice if another player could take up the afternoon slot and then another take up the night slot...the na scene has this down but they have help from the time differences.

other players will have more time than others, most "pro" teams will have a hectic trainning scehedule and trying to fit personal life with that can be difficult meaning most players dont have the time to stream (some players would rather spend 4 hours with their girlfriend before they play instead of streaming?). f0rest could easily stream for 4 hours each day before the rest of his teammates are ready to pratice, but that would leave him with almost no "personal time". thats my guess anyways.

you're just new cause having Hiko perform like that is normal and this event will indeed almost grantee him being on the top 20 again, he's performed well since day on here already and will continue n performing like that going forward until they win or lose... ;) I dont see a point of even arguing or saying anything about it unless, like I said, you're new to this whole thing... The fact that he's gonna be on that TOP 20 list of best players of 2014 is already a FACT whether you agree with it or not, just wait and see ;)

He did, or if he said something like "don't lose to a team twice (and by that, meant in grand finals)" but they kinda did when they lost to Fnatic in Esport SM that was played at DHS14, even tho that match had a terrible time schedule and was played in the middle of the night.

Im happy for Hiko's team even though I purchased 45$ worth of skins prior the to the match to bet on NiP and obviously lost it all, but who cares bout guns, Ill just buy another set of guns next time if I want to in case I dont win anything in the upcoming days ahahahaha so congratz coL glad you won! This win definitely brought motivation to the team! Hope coL wins the hole thing or at least iBUYPOWER! The USA event's gold should go to the USA teams!
