dAT Team captain Andrey "B1ad3" Gorodenskiy has confirmed to HLTV.org that the team will attend ESL One Cologne with Egor "flamie" Vasilyev as a stand-in.

With Konstantin "Pr1zraK" Krivosheev away on vacation, dAT Team asked Egor "⁠flamie⁠" Vasilyev to play for them in the ESL One Cologne European finals, in which six places at the German event were up for grabs.

The Ukrainian/Russian mixture ended up being the surprise package of the whole tournament as they were one of the first teams to secure qualification, after beating mousesports and ESG!.

After dAT Team's victory over ESG!, there was a lot of discussion about whether Vasilyev was cheating or not, with some users pointing out that a Steam account with the ID "flamief7" was VAC-banned, which, if confirmed, would automatically result in the team's disqualification in accordance with the ESL's new set of rules.

However, the former USSR member took to HLTV.org's forums to explain that such an account does not belong to him.

"I used to play under my first steam account (0:1:61116, steamcommunity.com/id/flamief7/) for a long time. It had a page url of flamiew0w. I entered it as my steam profile link at ESEA," he wrote on HLTV.org.

"Then, at some point in time I decided to change my steam url. I didn’t change it on ESEA, because I obviously forgot about that. I don’t think there’s anything wrong about that in that. For example, Delpan’s profile @ SK-Gaming still says he plays in the same team as f0rest and GTR, even though it’s not exactly true anymore…

"At this point in time, some guy decides to take my old steam url, flamiew0w. That means that my ESEA profile now links to his page, even though he has nothing to do with me… That’s all there is to it. Anyone could take this steam url.

"Then at some point in time my steam account got a trade ban. I’ll admit it, I like skins, so I chose to simply migrate to a new one. As you can see, it was NOT vac-banned, it simply got a trade ban, which I tried to avoid.

"Now, to answer those people who say I changed my steamID the same day that guy’s account got VAC banned: this simply is not correct.

"You cannot change your ESL SteamID yourself, an admin has to do it for you, but first you have to open a ticket. Any ESL admin can confirm I applied for a steam ID change a week before his account got banned."

Contacted by HLTV.org, Andrey "B1ad3" Gorodenskiy stressed that team stand behind Vasilyev, who will also be playing for them at the ESL's upcoming $250,000 major.

If this guy doesn't deliver on LAN he'll be called a cheater for the rest of his gaming career. It shows how merciless is the community towards dodgy plays, and how close to impossible it is to redeem yourself once you made a mistake in the past. Let's hope for the sake of the scene that he's clean and that we'll be able to see some good CS out of him in Cologne.

He was the best player from his team (USSR) during Voronezh LAN. It featured many well-known russian & ukrainian players (e.g. HR.mix, Hashtag etc.), so the competition level was decent. I hope flamie can handle the pressure & perform as well as he did in the past.

I know about Voronezh. You can be good at LAN and still make the mistake of cheating, for whatever reason. It's unlikely that we'll ever know for sure if he cheated or not during these games, but one thing is for sure, the scene needs him to perform well in Cologne. The last thing we need is a player (and eventually the whole team) called a cheater at a major.

Except the fact that there was absolutely no dodgy plays on his side at all compared to ESG. And you can't expect that a guy without much experience with alot of pressure on his shoulders will carry against the best teams of the world on LAN that prepared for months and are way ahead in terms of skill, nothing that he did against those teams was insane, he had a great aim and that's basically it, if he plays decently he won't deserve to be called a cheater.

As for if he'll deserve to be called a cheater, that doesn't really matter, what matters is how the community will react, that's why I want him to perform well, because I know that no matter how many people defend him they'll just try to destroy him and his team, and that's neither good for them nor the scene.

But if the community actually cared and had any brain (well, some people actually do), they would see that this team was so fucking well prepared and had alot of potential, way more than ESG or some teams that are currently in the Starseries. Perhaps it won't work for them because of various factors (fear of the opponents, pressure, first big lan, crowd, playing against huge teams), but for me they already made it, impressed me and deserved their spot. They probably won't make it out of group stage, but if they do it will be a hell of a performance.

MATURE community is still waiting for ekzem's aka Maikalele's official excuses after a mess that he created right during the match on the 2nd map (train) where like 50 thousand of ppl were watching it and as soon as he immaturely started typing his accusations right in the game chat, all the kids around the globe created at least 30-40 topics with "flamie f**king cheater" at least on hltv.org with the poor flamie himself trying to back up afterwards as well as a lot of pro players with the likes of pyth and GuardiaN (at least) were backing flamie up as well in a way, so ekzem its your time to shine, but with all the respect to you in the past years I can now say I am happy your team is not going to ESL just because of such a childish behavior towards a player. Even if you do suspect someone going forward, at least playout the match and after the game get together with your team, admins, review demos, engage whoeevr you have to engage and ban the guy if they prove it and do it in a mature way rather that allowing hundreds of little kids creating stupid threads thinking flamie is a cheater just because "YOU, A GOD!" said so. Im glade NaVi took ESG out the game. A team with that type of attitude and behavior shouldn't be able to beside the pro. They need to grow up some more before trying to hit the big league. I feel bad that ESC couldn't advance.

Also a good part is that all of them on the team will read every single comment on here, and all I can hope for is for them to learn something from it :)

Am I missing something here... how come two teams (the Indian team and Vox) get paid travel expenses, but not the rest of the 14 teams?

Because they need someone to support them and raise gaming scene in there countries whereas in Europe and NA it already exists and I'm sure in future ESL will be adding up more countries in the list, as they are doing a great job in promoting E-Sports all over the world :)

I like the effort by ESL to help with the game's expansion outside EU, but I wouldn't really call it fair for NA teams or a team like daT who doesn't even have an organization to send them. In terms of NA teams, I would hardly equate the EU scene with the NA scene. IBP/coL aren't salaried players like the rest of the teams in the top ten which already makes it harder for them to compete, on top of having a limited budget to travel. ESL/majors helping them out with expenses would give NA players room to negotiate the possibility of salaries with their organization in addition to inclusion of smaller tournaments into their budget.

AFAIK ESL India just started like 1 month back with help of NODWIN Gaming. Since ESL gave a slot to India, a "Sponsor" decided to give paid travel expenses plus 1 week bootcamp to the winner of the Indian qualifiers. ESL is not the one who is giving paid travel expenses. It is a sponsor. Cheers !
