WECG to feature CS:GO

The organisers of the World e-Sports Championship Games have announced that this year's event circuit will feature CS:GO as a promotional title.

Following the disbandment of the organisation behind the World Cyber Games events, Bory Jun, a former WCG COO, launched a new festival called the World e-Sports Championship Games (WECG), while maintaining the olympic spirit that was unique to its predecessor.

This means that teams will have to come from the national qualifiers that are held all over the world to get the chance to represent their country at the global finals.

WECG chiefs were involved with WCG

For the first edition of the WECG festival, however, the organisers have introduced two new events: continental championships, which will serve as a regional preliminary round, and global challenges, where teams can take part regardless of their nationality.

The 2014 WECG Grand Finals will take place in December in China, with five cities currently being considered to host the event: Chengdu, Shanghai, Kunshan, Chongqing and Huaxi.

"I am very pleased and look forward to hosting the first WECG Grand Final in China," said WECG co-founder Bory Jun.

"China is the world's biggest market in the gaming industry and has become an e-Sports hub. It is the best place to begin the WECG journey. We look forward to contributing to the growth of e-Sports in China."

A provisional game list for the 2014 event circuit has been released, and it includes CS:GO as a promotional title. It is still unclear which events, if any, apart from the Global Finals, will feature Valve's FPS title as details remain slim about how this new festival will be structured.

Below you can find the current game list for WECG 2014:

Official Game Titles

  • StarCraft® II: Heart of the Swarm® (Blizzard) / RTS
  • Hearthstone™: Heroes of Warcraft™ (Blizzard) / Digital CCG
  • DOTA2 (Valve) / Action RTS
  • Ultra Street Fighter® IV (Capcom) / Fighting

Mobile Official Game Titles

  • Crisis Action (CMGE) / FPS
  • Dance Everyday (CMGE) / Dance & Rhythm

Promotional Game Title

  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (Valve) / FPS)

For more information about WECG, check out the event's official website.

I know. I feel it will be more like an Asian Scene tournament. With CSGO just promotion title, I feel that it will be placed by some low game next time. But we will see.

That are the people who are refreshing hltv.org 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 51 weeks a year (everyone needs a week off right), until they see a new newspost and just strongly feel the desire to be the #1 guy to post a comment. But because they dont have the time to write something usefull (keep in mind there are others luring on that #1 spot), they just write "n1" or "nice". I hope you understand.

If teams doesn't have the expenses covered. No one will go to China. The top 2 NA teams can barely make it EU LAN's and the same thing with the EU teams going to NA for ESEA. Should be expensive as fuck to send a full team to China for who knows what prize pool. Good luck with that !

The top 2 NA teams are from poor organisations or organisations that don't want to pay the money to send them to events. Top tier EU teams have no issues traveling. VP, Navi & NiP can go to China. The exposure you get going to China is probably worth more than the price money.
