NiP come back; advance to semis

NiP have just come back from a 1-0 deficit after beating Cloud9 2-1 (8-16 de_nuke, 16-14 de_dust2, 16-14 de_cobblestone).

The match started off on NiP's pick, de_nuke, with the Swedes picking up the pistol and the following anti-eco. Doubles by Kory "SEMPHIS" Friesen and Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert beat NiP's second anti-eco and after the following round, the game was tied at 2-2 thanks to Mike "shroud" Grzesiek's triple on lower.

NiP's split upper strategy didn't work out as their outside players got killed, but in the following eco picked up three kills, which would've meant a round had Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund not miss a kill from behind.

Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg's triple while attacking upper lowered the deficit to 5-3 only for Cloud9 take the round afterwards on lower after another two-vs-two. Three rounds after that were taken by NiP, which meant the game was tied once again, at 6-6.

NiP's unfavorable exchanges in the following two rounds put them on a 6-8 deficit, although after an upper hit with GeT_RiGhT winning a one-vs-one, NiP were happy with the half ending up 7-8.

shroud was an absolute beast throughout the whole match

Despite a failed strategy as Terrorists, shroud was still able to get three kills on upper after rushing ramp and pushing up to heaven, and Cloud9 started building up the lead.

That was stopped at 13-7 in favour of the North American team also thanks to f0rest's AWP outside, but shroud's double in a two-vs-two didn't let NiP capitalize. As the Swedes weren't able to buy, the match went into seven map points, exchanged for a 1-0 lead on maps after the following round at 16-8.

Friberg's triple headshot as Terrorists on the initial pistol round of de_dust2 put NiP to 2-0, when Cloud9 decided to forcebuy. NiP got into the A bombsite, but shroud replied with a double in a two-vs-four, helping his team win their first round for 2-1.

NiP didn't allow any more breathing space for the following three rounds, which was before f0rest won a one-vs-three afterplant situation with an AWP, as Cloud9 were unable to defuse in time.

After Cloud9 started running a double-AWP setup, things quickly turned around with shroud picking up kills left and right for 4-7. Then Sean "seang@res" Gares's quad saved his team from losing an eco, and out of the last three rounds, the Americans picked up two.

seang@res and company ran a chaotic pistol, which was met with NiP's firm defence, as Adam "friberg" Friberg racked up another triple for eventually 11-7 after the anti-eco. Two forcebuys in a row weren't met with much success for Cloud9, but they made up for it by winning two rounds in a row afterwards.

Cloud9 weren't able to convert four short pushes in a row into more than one round, which saw NiP getting to five map points. A rush long that time around worked out, as well as the following round and the eco afterwards, and the scoreline was set to 15-13.

NiP had to eco at that point and couldn't surprise Cloud9 despite having saved two weapons. Robin "Fifflaren" Johansson's pick on SEMPHIS on long meant Cloud9 went for an immediate B split, but their unfavorable situation was soon turned into 16-14, 1-1.

GeT_RiGhT stepped up when it was needed

The final map was de_cobblestone, where Cloud9 started as Counter-Terrorists, but got off to a bad start despite winning the pistol and the following anti-eco. friberg's one-vs-one alongside [f0rest]'s triple with an AWP helped NiP go up 5-3.

Cloud9 then defended the B bombsite push successfully, but Fifflaren's triple put a stop to them, putting NiP on a 7-4 lead. Cloud9 replied with a round of their own, and n0thing showcased his skills in a one-vs-three afterwards, helping his team lower the deficit to one round.

Even though NiP's eco bomb plant helped them buy up in the last round, they still weren't able to come out on top and switched over to Terrorists with seven rounds.

Cloud9's sidewalk strategy in the second pistol worked wonders for them, friberg had a lot to say in the following round, as he stayed hidden in the A bombsite and won NiP a round only by killing the bomb carrier in the last five seconds.

shroud's team bought up what they could and came back from a two-vs-four on A to stay in the lead 10-8, only for GeT_RiGhT to show a similar round to the previous one, killing the bomb carrier all the way back at T spawn, not letting Cloud9 pick it up.

Following two rounds went NiP's way, although it was shroud once again doing work for his team, winning a one-vs-two thanks to a smart play on the A bombsite. friberg then stepped up, picked up four kills and with GeT_RiGhT's triple two rounds after, their team was up 14-11.

A mostly CZ75-only forcebuy and two pick-offs forcing NiP to save were standing in the Swedes' way, as the last two rounds were exchanged, NiP could start to celebrate after 16-14, 2-1.

spot on. They are not prepared enough to beat a team like LDLC , that is destroying the competition so far, not lost 1 match yet if I remember. They really want to make a name for themselves

How is it anymore unlucky for them than NiP? Neither team knew what they were doing, as was evident from all the misstakes.

never practiced it? stop talking bs. in the pre-tournament interview here on hltv the guy from c9 talked in detail about what he thought were the flaws of the map. he described it well enough to reveal that he knows quite a lot about the map.

Exactly. Na`Vi paid for it as well getting de_nuke. It's no one's fault but themselves. They had the chance to close the game in dd2. They didn't take it. Tough luck. Too bad some people just can't deal with it.

a random map announced in the mappool 1 month prior to the event shouldnt be in the mappool anyway, especially if a 3rd map gets picked randomly i really hope nip gets their anuses ripped apart by ldlc next, they really deserve no place higher than what they allready have in this tournament, a bo3 shouldnt be decided by who knows a map better but by raw skill, where c9 most of the time simply overtook nip. (also fifflaren should just give up allready, its making me mad that hes getting all of this free moeny for doing nothing but suck ingame)

He's not wrong though. New maps shouldn't be released into a major without prior testing and the veto system is just awful. You can't leave such a close match to whatever the random 3rd map is. Also, why is it that everytime it comes to random selection, it goes to Cobble or Overpass. All through groups and even here. I'm calling rigged. Kappa

Yes we know but everyone just keeps saying this shit when their favorite team goes out. All the teams had the same resources: time and effort. Winning or losing in cs is only up to you and your team. Still cbble\overpass turns up in the random section more often than it should imo :S

In NA you only have to study a couple teams so it's much easier to counter-strat. iBP doesn't have the composure of c9, they thrive on momentum kinda like VP.

"comeback". I do not know how people still call them the best team when they are playing SO bad. Dragging they butts in the semis with two maps one at two rounds difference. Anyways, best game so far. C9 played incredibly well, but they made some silly mistakes. Still, the players grew a lot and shroud really stepped up his game. Big props to those guys.

It's unfortunate, but n0thing no-showed the whole tournament. At least Shroud finally started playing really solid(and where it counted). It's too bad they lost, but it just goes to show that even an underperforming NiP is still an amazing team. Also, fuck this map pool stuff. It's a crap shoot on if you're going to get 3 decent maps. I'm glad we're not seeing de_inferno: the tournament, but at the same time almost no one had time to properly prepare for these maps. It's ridiculous, and it goes to show that Valve have no idea how to create a competitive shooter.

for me the tourney is over, the two teams i rooted for are vp and c9, they are both out. Now we have the ultraboring dignitas, the awkward fnatic, the little nip rats and ldlc which is the one ill support. Shroud played great really happy to see him performing this good on lan.

I'm done. I love how Cloud9 beat Nip on Nuke. It's NiP's best map. It's Cloud9's worst map. Hiko (their best player) hates it. Cloud9 did not practice Nuke a SINGLE time before the tournament. NiP obviously practiced it a lot. Yet C9 beat them 16-8 after an awful 8-7 CT half. Goes to show that C9 were by FAR the better team. They just got fucked in the ass by the veto system. It's completely unfair because C9 have NO ONE to practice the new maps agaisnt in the US aside from iBP. Yet they still got 14 rounds on Cobble. C9 were definitely the better team. They played well, NiP played like shit, but because of Valve's retarded decisions NiP got through by pure LUCK. (I didn't bet on the match btw, I couldn't convince myself to do it because C9 is my favourite team and NiP is my 2nd favourite team. I just really feel like C9 deserved to go through , and NiP absolutely did NOT.

They lost 2-1 yet they deserves it ? i agree cobble its a terrible map, but its part of the game and its for both teams, deal with it (didnt c9 started as CT on a map that HEAVILY favors CT ?) if anything it tells that c9 werent ready enough, theres a chance that the map would be part of the Bo3 and yet you dont practice it ? you deserve to go out, even if you hate the map. and besides yes, the NA scene sucks for c9 to train because not many good maps, but that doesnt mean you cant study the maps on their own.

How the fuck were they supposed to practice it? Sure they can dry run strats, but Semphis already admitted they don't scrim against iBP, therefore they had NO ONE to play the new maps against. When they finally arrive in Europe to bootcamp, they had shitty monitors etc. The new maps just gave a HUGE advantage to EU teams, and the random veto system is retarded too. Unlike in previous tournaments, luck was a HUGE factor in a teams's odds to win a game.

Cobble would be a better map if rounds would last the old 3 and a half minutes At this point, theres no time to check everything AND plant the bomb, you pretty much have to prey

Ty NiP. Did anyone else recognize the viewer numbers when NiP played? NiP carries CSGO, NiP is one of the reasons why CSGO is that big right now. Dont hate just love <3

37 frags in 84 rounds (0.440 frag per round) if nip didnt play 4v5, they would have won easier on the other hand, shroud, in his first international lan, carried c9.. for people who will consistently defend fifflaren, lets face it.. he sucks. if nip finds a promising fifth, they will beat any team without much problem.

thanks valve csgo devs, thanks. When we get the statistics at the end of the major that 90% of the third bo3 maps were overpass/cobblestone, people will be angry. You have rigged the map selection so awfully bad, have you even talked to lurppis, or anyone who has hosted tournaments to get info on how maps should be selected? A third map selected randomly is sad. Incoming map selection change for next major, good luck persuading these stubborn dev's lurppis & critics. I'm still sad after this bo3 loss, its sickening to me... people have been saying randomness is terrible for competition in any form for 15 years. also... get_right camping that corner spot near b w/ a p90... UGH SUCH AN AWFUL MAP ROFL. You design the bombsite so that people can snipe from ct spawn and 50 angles, sooooooo bad. SOOOOOO FREAKING BAD!!
