NiP & VP in CS:GO Legends Series

A new tournament called CS:GO Legends Series was just announced and it will feature weekly best-of-five $1,000 battles between top teams, starting with NiP and Virtus.pro on Monday, September 1st.

Continuing the trend of new events popping up, E-Frag - the organizers behind European Championship, are expanding their co-operation with the streaming platform Hitbox with CS:GO Legends Series.

CLS will feature weekly best-of-five clashes between top teams each Monday with $1,000 on the line, with the winners staying on for next week.

The new map-pool recently seen at ESL One Cologne will be used (with de_overpass, de_cobblestone and de_cache), and the organizers have also announced they will have the help of Duncan "Thorin" Shields as the pre- and post-game analyst.

Monday, September 1st

18:00 Sweden NiP vs. Poland Virtus.pro (Bo5)

The first edition will take place on September 1st at 18:00 between Ninjas in Pyjamas and Virtus.pro, two teams that just met earlier today on de_cache in ESEA Invite Season 17 when the Poles ran out winners 16-9.

Well, as much as I would like to see best of 5 games in finals of big LAN tournaments... a single online bo5 game with not-so-high stakes can quickly turn into a snoozefest.

1000$ is not exactly high-stakes, is it? This is not to say teams won't take it seriously, but they certainly won't be trying as hard as they would at a big LAN, which in-turn would make it less spectacular and less interesting to watch.

Its a $1000 winner takes all for one game, one evening. It's pretty high stakes! Not like a $250k final of course, but it gets there.

Well, caseking gives 750$ for a bo3 as well, so the stakes are pretty much as high/low, which in my books are not high stakes.

1 for the previous winner, 2 for the new entrants, with guaranteed 250$ for 1 bo3 win. Although that's not the point... The point is that the stakes are pretty much as high as that tournament.

Starseries LAN finals consists of two BO3s then a BO5! It's not a realllllyy good comparison, plus you have to play the starseries league and travel to the LAN finals.

Exactly why the stakes are higher and the teams would care more about that tournament than this one. Likewise for the fans. I'm not saying this is a bad structure of that bo5 will definitely be boring(possibility, not certainty). But a single, isolated online bo5 COULD very likely get boring.

I like that you're trying this out, let's see how it goes. I think there's a 100% chance it would eventually get boring without Thorin though, I hope he brings his A-game as much as the teams.

Yes, but it's in 52 different matches and will be played by about 20 different teams. Plus it's online... ping issues, DDoS and teams' general lack of motivation for online games (unless you're mousesports) and 5 maps in a row between the same 2 teams can get boring. Also, money is not the only think at stake, it's pride/honour as well. No one gives a shit about online results. bo5 is great as a finisher to an epic LAN major. But for a one head-to-head match online, it doesn't sound too enticing. I very much prefer CKoTH over this. Similar prize and 2 bo3 matches between 3 different teams. BO3 games are short enough to not get boring and enough to not be random.

250$ for one evening of playing at home is good. The question is: is it good enough to not safe strats for top3 teams? No big lan on horizon soon for them so maybe yes.

By all means, put up your extra $10K for the match then. If $1K is low stakes, you must just have it laying around.

I'd say 99.9% of what you said I disagree with, but everyone's entitled to their own opinions. About 3-4 hours of gameplay for a little extra money is fantastic, I mean... look at that one dignitas online little tourney... that took like 3 games to win (all bo3's) for about 2500$ and great teams played that too.

IMO, this is the map pick pattern that should be used to keep the bo5 interesting. Map 1 : Knife round determines who gets to pick the first map, loser picks side. Map 2 : Loser of map 1 picks map and side Map 3 : Loser of map 2 picks map and side Map 4 : Loser of map 3 picks map and side Map 5 : Team that won the knife round for map 1 vetos a map, other team vetos another map, last map remaining is the decider.

Really good idea, atm we have a first ban, second ban, 4 picks, then final map is decider system that Thooorin recommended and the players seem to have liked.

explain me plz why there is cbble/overpas instead train/season? Noone likes cbble and overpass. Wasted time playing those shitty maps which ll get removed or at the best scenario massivly changed.

We'll see how it goes. If BO5 is too long, and is not favoured by the community and the teams then we can always go back to a BO3, but why not try it?

Thoooooooooorin! Finally some good analysing. These play-by-play casters may be fun to watch but their analysing isn't comparable to that of Thorim and lurppis. Definetly more excited for this than CKotH.

ripoff? you want them to fail? It's more people helping the CSGO community. Unfortunately case king of the hill only features 3? teams per week. This is a chance for other teams to play weekly matches in addition to those playing CKOTH. It just makes cs more exciting... not sure how your viewpoint makes any sense.

ok the amount of teams thing is true, still its possible nip being champion in both for some weeks to come now. yes i want them to "fail" just cant believe how they couldnt come up with something at least a bit more different, its just bad attitude picking up ideas left and right with the "we can do it better because we pay thorin to talk crap in between matches"-mentality

good ideas will always have followers. They won't affect caseking in any way * unless played in same time ). So why the fuck u should be angry at them ? Now we will have matches with meaning almost every week, that I call ENTERTAIMENT that helps this community to grow.

Buddy, I didnt want to reply to these ripoff accusations but firstly, this tournament was planned with hitbox before the caseking tournament even started or we even knew about it, it's based on the DOTA2 bounty hunter series. Number two, the caseking tournament isn't an "original" tournament it's based on a king of the hill series started in the gd studios. It's like saying leagues are a rip off of each other and majors are a rip off of each other, it doesn't make sense.

"The new map-pool recently seen at ESL One Cologne will be used (with de_overpass, de_cobblestone" Really? Again? New maps should be tested in 2nd league (sltv a serries, esl silver league or sth) instead of cs legends. Pathetic fail by orgs. The only reason it ll be watchable are vp, nip and thorin.

FOR org of such events a good idea and easy for a hype. Before the match do a giveaway of super skins for the best hype image. F.e. A few days before you announce this contest for the best hype image (f.e. t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTSQnTT.. pl.memgenerator.pl/mem-image/derby-pilka.. s1g.wgrane.pl/video/2011/07/12/98241.jpg.. ) Before the match you show those photoshops and you (some jury) or just by survey you pick top 3 and give skins to authors. Simle and cheap solution and you have viewers attenction, humor and hype!
