ESWC to use Valve's map pool

The ESWC organisers have announced that de_overpass and de_cobblestone have been added to to this year's event map pool.

ESL One Cologne was the first big event to use the active duty map pool proposed by Valve, which sees de_overpass and de_cobblestone replacing de_train and de_season.

In a bid to converge the number of maps used worldwide, the ESWC has now announced that Valve's map pool will be adopted in the male and female CS:GO tournaments that will be hosted at this year's finals, from October 29th to November 2nd.

This means that the following seven maps will be played at the ESWC finals:

  • de_nuke
  • de_dust2
  • de_inferno
  • de_mirage
  • de_cache
  • de_cobblestone
  • de_overpass

However, in order not to interfere with the teams' preparation for the upcoming qualifiers, the map pool for the national and regional tournaments will remain the following:

  • de_nuke
  • de_dust2
  • de_inferno
  • de_mirage
  • de_cache
  • de_season
  • de_train

Meanwhile, the ESWC announced that it will stick to its traditional veto system, in which teams remove maps until there is one left if it is a best-of-one match. In case it is a best-of-three match, each team will ban one map, pick one and then ban one again, in this order. The last map will be the decider.

Great...

Tuscan's ready soon, and pro teams have already said that Season and Train are generally more competitively-viable. It's like valve are making changes for the sake of it rather than actually intending to improve the scene.

Listen boy, valve don't want to put tuscan on map pool. Because tuscan was created by Brutesmaps and since valve can choose the map pool via their system they cut the right to the others maps editors to play those maps (tuscan,..) via their system. Valve is like microsoft, they need to own everything that touch to their Os/Games.

The map is not ready yet, so they don't fucking add it. What's so hard to understand? And they don't want to own everything that touches their OS, obviously fucking not since it's terrible for business if you want people to actually use the OS. It's just that they made the OS and tries to make games playable on the system, thus starting with their own games (what a surprise!). Oh, you're just an incredibly dull troll.

obviously it's not bad business seeing how successful microsoft is. and they obviously are seeing how hard they push this shitty "map pool" and garbage "matchmaking" system. they're even making their own OS lmao.

Microsoft doesn't own everything on their own OS, unlike Apple. That's why they succeded. It's not as superfree as Linux obviously but it's not as confined as MacOS. Maps got voted to CSGO (I believe) from workshop by players to operations. Almost all of the maps in the operation sucks, Overpass is a pretty decent map and they probably wanted Cobble to be played in it's former glory. The fact that they picked maps they own is probably because it gives them free reign to actually fix the maps (which all maps always need) without having to struggle with mapmakers over creative control. It might spread to others maps later, but as a start of map pool-rotation it's alright although badly done (forcing it in to a major with 1 months warning). Matchmaking is a good way to make players start atleast believing it's possible to become better and meet somewhat equally skilled players unlike 1.6 where you were thrown into a pit filled with hungry wolves your first day of play. It was like CSGO Matchmaking on Steamsale but 10 times worse for anyone who didn't have friends playing CS. You shouldn't have to get involved in the community and read guides on how to join special servers with ranking systems to start playing a game. Sure MM could be made a whole lot better but it's not a wall of confusion compared to endless server-lists and a whole lot other bullshit that 1.6ers seem to love. They are making their own OS, I know. I even talked about it in my post. Let's say it like this: They might WANT to own everything on their OS, just like all companies wants to own everything. But not right now since that would require several billions of dollars and/or making it a bad platform for gaming. It's a gaming OS so why would they WANT to restrict it to their games? It just doesn't make any sense.

I've played on t0scan and the map looked similar to 1.6. There was no dirty shit all over the map. Since i've played on, the map must be ready. There's no source. I just belive that valve want to own tuscan before they let players play on it.

probably shit like that... but i've done a map in cs1.6 in 2 days. And i was my 1st try on it.. Why the hell valve is taking too long with pro to remake a tuscan ? i'm really disapointed. ps : take a look there facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.6667984000.. The map was quite finished in june. He just needed to fix somethings etc.

Yeah thought the same if valve could make their own map which will look like de_tuscan, but I bet it will be another crap like de_cobblestone which used to be a nice map in old 1.6 and source times

"Why the hell valve is taking too long with pro to remake a tuscan?" Valve has nothing to do with the remake of tuscan, it's all brute and he may still have a copyright on it of some kind. If valve remade it or FMPONE or Ted had remade it, we'd probably have the map done already and in game as part of an operation or something else. Brute's version though already looks dated since he started it in 2012 and toscan isn't any better. I know visually it doesn't matter to CS players if a map isn't pretty, but there's a reason why valve hasn't put any ugly looking maps into operations or the game. They expect more out of people if they are to get money for their creations.

You can't copyright any content you make on the source engine according to the SDK user agreement. Strictly speaking all the user made maps belong to Valve and Valve can do whatever they want with them, they just choose not to enforce that part of the agreement. In this case Valve is probably just waiting for brute to finish the map instead ow making their own version in order to avoid a backlash from the community. But there is nothing stopping another level designer from making a new de_tuscan.

after some minutes of thinking, i must say someting about : "Valve has nothing to do with the remake of tuscan" Valve as something to do with that. Why ? Because tuscan was a great map to play in mix and in competition. If valve really cared (can i say in this way ?) about his community, they should put everything to build this map. They prefered add some slaty map where pro had to learn everything (as everybody) than a map that was completly high competitive and beautiful. Plus, the last pictures of tuscan are completly stunning. 3 june 2014 facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.6667984000.. That's my though.

You are wrong sir! I was at Gamescom and went straight to one of the valve developers because I had so much complaining to do and actually, they seem to don't know shit about all those problems cs go has. I asked him LITERALLY if they didn't include toscan because of legal issues and he said no, it has nothing to do with the copyright. It's about balancing issues and most importantly the visuals. He said that most kids these days , coming from other fps games like Call of Duty, are used to better graphics on their maps. Since the official maps, created by valve, have a somewhat high standard maps like toscan, season or contra aren't even considered because they look like their 1.6/source counterparts. I was puzzled since those maps have been playtested for so many years in source or go, why don't they just test it instead of implementing useless maps like cbblestone or overgrown into the operation ? I just think if Valve had access to all .vmf files they would pick up the work and upgrade the visuals on those maps. Without a visual update, none of these maps will be implemented. Apart from that I was slightly amused when I told him about countless errors in the mm system like, Failed to create Session, VAC Authentication Error, occassional Connection Time-Outs without any cause etc. etc. He replied: Have you considered checking your computer ? I'm sure it has something to do with your Internet Connection. *FACEPALM*

Alright, didn't know if the legal stuff from older leagues was still an issue, glad to know it isn't. I knew certain maps couldn't make it for aesthetic reasons (mill, contra, season, lite, frost, toscan, etc.). Hope that valve will do more to encourage high quality remakes/reskins of those maps though. Perhaps if there is no legal issues they will remake one themselves someday.

It's probably the pros that are pushing these maps anyway. They are the ones that got them introduced to CKotH, and ESWC probably asked them what they thought of adding them to the map pool, and they probably said it's a good idea.

The organisations themselves introduce map pools, all pros you can ask will tell you cobblestone is completely unviable for competitive play, as of now. Why the orgas do this (using this map pool) is to get a piece from the esports keys cake, so it is kissing the valve's ass.No one asks pros anything.

obviously the organisers choose the map pool, but their decision is some what influenced by the pros' opinions. I can't find the news article but it mentioned that CKotH had chosen to adopt the Valve map pool and I think Anders said in the comments that the pros came to them and asked them to add the new maps. Sorry if I get this slightly wrong btw.

Reading my comments back, I forgot to mention that initially a lot of pros thought they were bad maps, and it's only after we have realised that Valve will continue to add them to majors, that pros have decided it's for the best if they are in all other tournaments as well. Whether or not the majority of pros actually like the maps, I'm sure I don't know.

That may be the case, but pros are still pushing for organisers to pick up Valve's map pool just so it matches majors. edit: C9 and iBP seem to hate the fact that they don't get the chance to practice these new maps until the majors come around. They would probably love if CEVO picked up Valve's map pool.

Seriously, the qualifiers should also have the same map pool, different map pools doesn't make sense at all. ESWC should reconsider this ASAP.

1) Stupid to use different maps in the tournament than the ones used for the qualifiers. 2) Not stupid because every single tournament organizer wants a piece of valve money for their prize pools, and adopting their maps is a must. Valve-funded prize pool at next year's ESWC is a possibility, and obviously ESWC see it that way.

bad. navi vs fnatic train at SLTV was the one of the best maps of CSGO I have ever seen. fnatic didnt get that many rounds but they played so crazy aggressive T side that I was on the edge of my seat. cobble is a snoozefest and ESWC sucks for using it. while we're at it how about free armor, 1k start money and 15 total rounds? I mean, while we're destroying the competitive aspect of the game in the name of 'uniformity' since all those casual mode players play with that ruleset.

no no no. silvers are "high level players" according to Valve. why do you want to exclude new players who clearly feel too rushed by even a 2 minute round timer? you are so inconsiderate.

I think everyone should relax about the map pool for a little bit. Because now that ESL One is over, it's OK for these maps to be used in competitions. The 'new new (new?)' Season isn't finished yet, so Valve can't magically put it into the map pool. We still haven't heard anything official about a Train remake, only a small screenshot (and even then we only saw cosmetic changes). There is no need to mention the other map, it will be released when the creator sits down and actually finishes it. That might be never.

they should never have required a "new" season in the first place. they fucked up massively when they didnt pick that up and heavy handidly forced competition towards cbble and overpass

I have been thinking that there has to be someone rich that creates a real scenario for Paintball / Airsoft of CS maps to be able to play them. :D

This map situation is so bullshit right now. This is setting back the pro scene months. Teams dont know what the hell to practice, teams are stuck playing maps theyr out of practice on. The CZ is fully bullshit but this map problem is possibly even more destructive for competition right now

People whine too much about the maps, they should try and play de_storm, de_torn, de_chateau and de_survivor as official maps just to see what a bad map really is! I really like overpass even though it is a bit big. There are great possibilities for both T and CT's and we have already seen some great matches on it. I believe just needs to get familiar with it. Cobble still has its problems. The CT side can rotate faster than the T's can get onto the A site, which makes it rather hard to play the T side when B is a bottleneck as is normal with the official maps. The A area is in general too open and too long, so that the CT's get too much info. With a rework on A moving it further away from ct spawn and removing the back area on B and doing some crates instead or something like that, then it could become a great map. It could also move the CT's hand to play more aggressively. Getting tuscan back would be great, but I think brute is holding his map back for some reason, most likely money. I think they should do rotations on the map pool for every event. I have been tired of watching dust2 for the past 10 years, it wouldn't hurt to see something new and for a prolonged period.

+1 And valves new update on cobble made it able for fakes to be done easier thus they wont rotate immediately when they see enemies. Overpass is underrated too, it requires a lot of communication on it and fakes can be done easily and quickly, which i think is unique
