DH Winter with $250,000 prize pool

DreamHack has announced that the upcoming Winter event will feature a major CS:GO tournament with a $250,000 prize purse.

One year after hosting the first-ever CS:GO major tournament, co-funded by Valve, DreamHack has announced that the 2014 Winter event, scheduled to take place between November 27-29, will also feature a whopping $250,000 prize pool.

The tournament will feature a total of 16 teams, with the top eight sides from the last major, ESL One Cologne, receiving invitations. The remaining teams will be determined through a series of online qualifiers, to be held this month.

NiP will try to defend their ESL One Cologne major title

A new aspect about this new major is that the event organisers will offer the 16 teams a special pre-event bootcamp, in order to assure that all participants have the best possible training conditions going into the tournament. DreamHack and Valve have decided that they will offer accommodation to all the teams during their stay in the Swedish capital.

"This will be a unique opportunity to build hype before the event and give all teams equal training conditions," said Tomas Lyckedal, Head of eSports at DreamHack.

"It’ not only a unique thing for DreamHack and the teams, but for the community as whole.

"We’re extremely excited about this opportunity and we have a lot of new ideas how the tournament will be presented on-site and online, and hope to offer one of the very best tournaments to date."

Below you can find the list with the teams who have been invited to attend DreamHack Winter following a top-eight finish in Cologne:

Yeah, but at least 3/5ths of the roster have to be from the same team. They have 2 ex-Titan, 2 ex-Epsi and 1 ex-LDLC member so they can't have 3/5ths of any previous roster.

So they decided to invite Titan and Epsilon. I guess they look at where the majority of the players went to instead of which organisation supported them. Would have been LDLC and Epsilon otherwise. But since Titan placed outside top8 and 3 Titan players are on the new LDLC team, they will have to qualify online.

Because why? iBP's stellar track record in Europe, or their even better track record on LAN /sarcasm America's best team is Cloud9. I've seen you post quite a bit about how iBP is better than C9, and in America that may be true (at least on dust_II, maybe). I don't understand Why does epsilon and Titan get the slot and LDLC doesn't? Top 8 players in current Titan : Apex, KQLY, Maniac Not top 8 : KennyS, ex6 Top 8 players in current epsilon : GMX, fxy0, uzzii Not top 8 : ScreaM, pm Top 8 players in current LDLC : Shox, Kioshima, Happy Not top 8 : NBK, Smithzz If it's purely by players, there should be a tie breaker, if it's by organization+players, Titan shouldn't be getting the slot.

"Below you can find the list with the teams who have been invited to attend DreamHack Winter following a top-eight finish in Cologne" Titan got an invite because they have 3 LDLC players who placed top4, so they can claim the spot. But the LDLC-Titan-Epsilon isn't as clear cut as iBP. (#337)

Ideally, the best lineup for the remaining 8 would be the : HR CPHW Mouz iBP LDLC Any 3 from : 3DMAX/Alternate/Property/dAT/myXMG/x6tence/LC/fm I really hope we don't get Vox and Wolf again. If the organizers decide they want to invite teams from "new" CS countries, I would like them to be from China/South Korea/Japan/Brazil/Argentina.

They might await to see if any of the teams from small CS countries do well at ESWC. A bit tight between the two events though, I suppose. Regardless, every major should have both an Asian/Oceanic and a South-American qualifier with each of them handing out two spots and paid flight tickets to Europe. Wouldn't be exceptionally costly when engaging local organisers.
