ESWC 2014 group draw

The group draw for the ESWC finals is out, with the 24 participants having been placed in four groups.

The 2014 edition of the ESWC world finals will take place from October 30 to November 2, in Paris, with 24 teams from all over the world battling it out for a piece of the $50,000 prize pool.

The tournament will kick off with a round-robin, best-of-one group stage - with the 24 participants being placed in four groups of six teams - followed by the single-elimination playoffs with the remaining eight sides.

Based on their past achievements, the teams were placed into four different seed categories: top, high, medium and challenger. Each group will consist of one team from both the top and the high seed categories, and two from the medium and the challenger categories.

I'm really curious how ibp is a highseed and cloud9 is a medium seed. Especially given international results....

Because they didn't especially give preference to international results, they took the fact that iBP has won two LANs, of higher prestige than the fact that c9 has made it out of the groups of every major.

Anyone notice, either one of those french teams that make group b and c are playing on a godly level right now. I would pick titan/ldlc to win the tournment. But as a murrican I really think its going to be a coinflip between vp or c9 to advance. The frenchies are way to stronk right now. Group C is ridiculous too.. wow, cpw wont advance but they can upset any of those teams. Also love to see Brazil back in the scene(Dont cheat or steal stuff tho;P) Predictions: A-fnatic/NaVi (Would be shocked if anyone else) B- French runner-up/VP (hope I'm wrong murricans) C-France winner/HR (Nip is playing like garbage) D-Dig/mouz (upset watch 3dmax or Cipangu.GO the next lunatic high?) No..

Team X almost beat NiP in their prime, no one saw that coming either. NiP is on their shaky period although its almost a mission impossible for both CPH and KabuM, but the possibility is there.

They can definitely suprise since they havent played europeans/n. americans in GO yet and no one knows their level. Usually unproven (in GO vs other nationalities) teams like that disappoint more than they suprise though.

No way k1ck is gonna make it. Like they have really good tactics, great aim, but they make so many stupid mistakes that even the vast majority of semi-elite teams never does. If k1ck wouldn't fuck up those easy rounds at every match, they MIGHT have a chance. Dunno if it's their low level of game understanding, bad communication or horrible leadership, whatever it is, it will be their downfall once again

They will bro, trust me. K1ck are way better on LAN than online, cuz fox plays with +100 ping and he can't play at his level, yet he's the best. Now imagine, last time k1ck played on LAN almost won dreamhack valencia 2014, lost on overtime against LDLC. They will win with fnatic group A, i'm pretty sure ;)

I'm not doubting their skill, it's just the silly mistakes they do. I've never seen any other team throw away as many easy rounds as k1ck. If they can't fix those problems, I don't see them having any real chances.

Yeah, I gotta agree with you. Eco rounds, they lose too many. That's HUGEEE. You're right but still, k1ck are different team on LAN, for sure. But as I said we will see. It really depends, I'm sure will win against that 3 teams, against fnatic no chance. But NaVi, they can win. They already did, but lets see. Of course they have a hard group, 2 huges teams plus LC, but they have to proof that they want to win something, atleast go into to the playoffs. Btw, I still think that would be better top 3 teams each group go to the playoffs, with winner and loser bracket.

Why is that? If NaVi loses against fnatic and tie against LC, for example. Or something similiar happen, fnatic + k1ck. lol I don't know if this is with round difference aswell but everything is possible and k1ck has a chance tho, they can beat NaVi

I don't blame you. It feels like no tournament organiser will ever learn how to run "cool" events. Even the valve tournaments are crap if it comes to the tournament format. Your tournament format is actually better than theirs but there is still lots of room for improvement. I will never understand why organisers never max out the potential. Just like Valve doesn't with the game. :-)

It's a shitty excuse if organisers want to stand out with their tournaments. Focus on less games/more time if you want to deliver the best shit. Limited time has been the excuse for how many years? I think since esports exist.

They're limited to the time limits at Paris Games Week, I'm sure if they had their own venue at their own event then it'd be fine but they have to be out by certain times each day, they can't run until 2AM to fit it all in :<

It's all god! At least waaay better than the GSL bo1 system, which to some point is a disgrace. You're giving all at least 5 matches, which is 3 more than you will get at a normal GSL format. Also you make sure its the very best team from each group that actually battles it out in the quaterfinal, so that's at least for me, all god! :)

Well, NaVi > K1ck for sure lol. NaVi are better team than K1ck but you know why? Well, NaVi is playing every single tournament out there, online / LAN, while k1ck plays at BEST 3 tournaments per year. That's the difference, k1ck has skill and good players. I'm not saying that they will win everything, that's just only a dream. But k1ck will focus on the match versus NaVi, not vs fnatic lol.

K1ck have a chance as long as they beat fucking LC of course. NaVi is a good team but from the High seed group only iBP is weaker than them. AlienTech was always going to be eliminated but their group is not that hard. They can easily beat the Indian team and they have a chance against Planetkey for sure

Yes i agree that group B has more top teams but only 4 are serious contenders. Group C have 5 teams that can upset each other. I feel like one of the french team would have an easier matchup in B, so losing the qualifier wont be so bad.

I've never seen such a good distribution of seeds. Very well done, usually some of the 'unknown' teams (like e.g teams from asia) get ridiculously high seeds at some events. This is just 100% correct IMO, though some might argue that HR should get a higher seed, but with the amount of great teams it's very justifiable.

they were at the beginning of csgo, but they didn't take advantage of it, when they had fyx insider n3w fox and mutt and were able to attend a lot of events. Their other lineup that showed great potential at CSGO was with fox mutt coachi vis aguila but they failed to pass the groups of ESWC 2013 and things got complicated. I hope that with this current lineup things will go back on track again.

I think they can upset. I don't see they winning against HR or the french team, but they probably have the same level as CPHWolves and have a chance to upset NIP. If progaming.td played head to head against NIP, i think Kabum can play too, maybe even beat them.

I guess, I really hope they don't use Overpass/Cobble, so shitty of them to FORCE a use of them at ESL One. And I hope C9 makes it farther, possibly winning it? that'd be nice to see. I just really, really hope they get some bootcamp in and everyone is on-point. n0thing needs to really show up with shroud/hiko too.
2014-10-17 18:53

The respect they get is paid travel expenses and a spot in the tournament. Teams like pow attended the qualifier and they are seeded correctly (challenger). I really think they based IBP > C9 seeding solely on head-to-head, which is kinda lame. You wouldn't seed 2001 eoL higher than 2001 SK, but eoL beat them 8 times out of 9.

Group A: Fnatic and Na`Vi should advance with relative ease Group B: C9 will have tough time advancing over VP + LDLC/Titan but I wouldn't put it past them, especially considering that it's BO1 for the group stage Group C will have some heartbreaks Group D: iBP lucked out with arguably the easiest group and should, along with Dig, advance to quarters....
