LDLC ease past Cloud9 16-6

LDLC got off on the right foot at the FACEIT Finals in Milan following a 16-6 victory over Cloud9 on de_inferno.

As the home side of this best-of-one match, LDLC got to pick the map on which they wanted to play, and the choice fell on the standard de_inferno, which is widely regarded as a CT-favoured side.

Cloud9, who began the match as Terrorists, picked a fairly unusual strategy for the pistol round and faked B while planting the bomb in A. The move almost paid off, but quick rotations from LDLC's players and a triple kill from Edouard "⁠SmithZz⁠" Dubourdeaux kept the North American side at bay.

After planting the bomb in the first eco round, Cloud9 went or an early buy in the third round but the move did not pay off, which had a toll on the team's economy and helped LDLC to take a 5-0 lead.

Doubles from Sean "⁠seang@res⁠" Gares and Mike "⁠shroud⁠" Grzesiek then gave Cloud9 their first round of the match, and a triple kill from Spencer "⁠Hiko⁠" Martin in B allowed the North Americans to close the gap to three rounds. However, Cloud9's response was short-lived, with LDLC embarking on a six-round streak, powered by SmithZz, who picked up an impressive ace in A.

A no-nonsense A push from Cloud9 finally stopped LDLC's winning streak, but the French side managed to win the final round of the half to go into the second half up 12-3.

In the second half, a quad kill from Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt allowed LDLC to further enlarge their lead, but the Frenchmen were then surprised on the eco. The former compLexity team went on to add two more rounds to their tally, but there was nothing they could do to stop LDLC from winning the match.

This score doesn't tell you the whole story. Round were close especially on the first half. I think C9 are capable of a surprise on the second map. Will see.
